Everything We Know About ‘Shrill’ Season 3
It’s time to say goodbye to Hulu‘s Shrill. The groundbreaking Aidy Bryant–led show is not coming back after season three, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show centers on Annie (Bryant), a self-described fat woman who’s on a mission to change her life but not her body. For two seasons, we’ve watched her navigate life, love, and work, all in a body that the world tells her is wrong. And now we’re going to see the final chapter
At the end of season two, fans watched Annie step into her power by way of dumping her loser boyfriend, Ryan (Luka Jones), and demand better for herself when it comes to relationships—and life. Bryant posted on January 27 that the show’s final season is coming this spring.
“Shrill has been one of the most creatively satisfying experiences of my life, a true labor of love for me and everyone who worked so hard on it,” Bryant said in a statement Wednesday, January 27, per THR. “We are incredibly proud of this upcoming third and final season and are so grateful to the audience who connected with this story. I am deeply honored to have worked so closely with the writers, cast, and crew to make Shrill while continuing my work at SNL, it is a time I will never forget. I have endless love for our crew in Portland, and I am excited to get back to New York and rejoin my other work family at SNL in the meantime.”
Here’s everything we know so far about what to expect in season three:
Filming has already wrapped. Bryant shared an Instagram selfie in December 2020 with her costar, Lolly Adefope, who plays her best friend on the show. “That’s a wrap on @shrillhulu season 3! love this cast and crew more than I could ever explain. see you sooooon. 💕✨🌲”
We don’t have a premiere date yet. Shrill‘s final-season TV poster says the show will return in spring 2021, but that’s all we know. Season one premiered March 15, 2019, and season two premiered January 24, 2020. A spring return date means the show will likely return anywhere between March and May.
It will pick up after Annie dumped her ex. THR reveals Annie is “energized by her breakup with her dud boyfriend Ryan and her newfound momentum at work” and that she “feels like everything is finally falling into place for her.”
