Runcorn and Widnes residents warned to take precautions against burglary
Residents in Runcorn and Widnes have been warned by police to be extra vigilant as the nights draw in. Darker evenings can often lead to a rise in break-ins and it is important to take measures to combat this, such as by installing a home alarm.
Detective inspector Durcan says now is a good time to assess home security. He says that as well as an alarm system, people should make use of lights and timer switches to help a house look inhabited even when it is not. Motion sensitive lights are also a good option and he also recommended that householders do not keep car keys and other valuables anywhere visible.
Durcan said:
“We are doing all we can to prevent further burglaries and to detect offences that have already happened, but residents are also being urged to help tackle this type of crime.
“We want to reassure the people of Halton that a dedicated team is working together to tackle the issue and bring those responsible for this type of crime to justice.”
The police have also increased the number of night time patrols in a further burglary countermeasure.
