The ‘Tucked Bob’ Is the Coolest Take on a Classic Bob

[ad_1]

If you want a cut that does the hard work for you, bobs are the way to go. They offer a short, sexy statement shape that takes the pressure off of styling. It’s why they’ve remained the most popular cut of the past five years.

Of course, they come in all shapes and sizes as we know, from the collarbone bob, to the A-line bob and the soft-blunt bob, however if you’re after something a little bit more daring as we head into autumn, two of our absolute fave shapes—the ’90s crop bob and the French-girl bob—have undergone a modern makeover and merged under the discerning eye of top hairstylist James Earnshaw, who created the adorable “tucked bob”. Think soft, edgy texture and low-key attitude. It’s gritty, but sweet.

“This cute ’90s tucked-under bob is giving the ‘French girl bob‘ a revival,” Earnshaw explains to Glamour UK. Plus the shorter, cheekier shape is a fierce step up if you’re bored of sticking to shoulder-length.

If you’re thinking of getting one yourself (join the queue), he gave us this advice: “Ask for a sharp jaw-length bob with layers just through the ends to create softness.” If you’ve lost track of your fringe, don’t worry, it works. “A grown-out fringe will soften the corner of the bob, to give it a modern update,” says Earnshaw. He paired this bob with an out-grown curtain fringe which offers some pretty face-framing action, but is also long enough to be tucked behind ears if you’re going off-duty.

As for styling, “leave the back of your hair to dry into your natural texture, and blow dry the front sections back away from your face to create more soft volume, texture, and movement around the cheekbones,” adds Earnshaw . Exactly the sort of minimal maintenance routine we like to see. The mixed layers around the cheek and jaw “is a lot more flattering on the face than a strong one-length bob and will give the bob a sexy, softer edge,” says Earnshaw. Consider us sold.
