Like a comet that burns bright before flickering away, the unexpected whirlwind love affair of crunchy actor Shailene Woodley and anti-vax football player Aaron Rodgers has reportedly come to an end. And fresh on the heels of the demise of JuliYe, another seemingly rock solid couple! RIP, love.
Just one year ago, Woodley confirmed that she and the Green Bay Packers player were engaged, telling Jimmy Fallon, “When I first met him, I think my dog like pulled me aside and was like, ‘If you don’t date this dude, I will disown you as my mother, because the three feet that I run with you when you throw a ball is nothing compared to the marathon I’m able to run with him…We met during this wacky, wacky time and all the stadiums were closed that he was playing in, so I have yet to go to a football game…When we met, also, I knew he was a football guy, but I didn’t know, like, what kind of a football guy he was. And I’m still constantly learning.”
As sources close to the couple remarked that the relationship escalated quickly, Woodley explained that the peculiar circumstances of the pandemic pushed them together faster than usual. “We jumped in headfirst and got some of the sticky bits out of the way early,” she said in June 2021, adding, “I have the perspective that I would have met Aaron in any context, any space in time, because I feel we were meant to be together.”
That was before Rodgers made headlines for his views on vaccination mandates (and his misleading comments about his own immunity), which Woodley did not comment on directly.
On February 16, 2022, a source told TMZ that the pair had officially split, following months of rumors about friction in the relationship.
