‘Pam & Tommy’ Features a Talking Penis and Twitter Is Traumatized

The first few episodes of Hulu’s Pam & Tommy dropped on February 2, and things are already getting weird. Minor spoilers, ahead.

The series, starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, follows the ‘90s couple’s tumultuous relationship and the highly publicized leak of their private sex tape. The series immediately got the Internet’s attention back in May 2021, when Hulu released the first images of James and Stan as the Baywatch actor and Mötley Crüe drummer. “I mean, give the makeup artist who turned Lily James into Pamela Anderson an Emmy already,” one Twitter user wrote at the time, gaining more than 30K likes. One user replied, “No there is no way. my brain cannot compute that this is Lily James.”

While the transformations are still boggling the Internet’s collective mind, there’s something else that is causing a stir on social media now that the series has officially begun. In one Pam & Tommy scene from episode two, Tommy Lee has an entire conversation with his penis and the appendage, voiced by Jason Mantzoukas, talks back. Don’t do drugs, kids!

Of course, the penis does not actually belong to Stan. “I can’t think of a more fun and cuddly way to get away with extended full-frontal male nudity,” Showrunner Rob Siegel told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a puppet; it’s like Yoda.”

Viewers, of course, had thoughts. Mainly, “why?!?” (Jokes aside, it’s also been pointed out that the talking penis has more lines than James spoke in the entire first episode, which is definitely worth calling into question.)

Apparently, the scene was taken directly from Lee’s memoir Tommyland, according to Siegel and fellow showrunner D.V. DeVincentis. His penis, they told EW, functions “almost like Tommy’s id,” as opposed to “a sentient organ.”
