Mary J. Blige Won the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The queen of hip-hop soul Mary J. Blige played quarterback for an evening, anchoring a team of musicians who pulled off a very fun Super Bowl halftime show.

Taking the field mid-game, the Grammy Award-winning singer performed hits “Family Affair” and “No More Drama” in a stunning white two-piece set with mirror leopard print embellishments and matching boots. The icon also joined fellow hip-hop and rap stars Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Eminem for a rousing rendition of Dr. Dre’s “Still DRE.” Still, we can’t help but agree with one user who wrote, “Damn. Mary J. Blige just came out and said, ‘Actually, this is MY halftime show.’”

Held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the game between the Rams and Bengals was especially meaningful for Dr. Dre, who grew up in nearby Compton. When the musical acts were announced, he said, “The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” calling the planned performance an “unforgettable cultural moment,” per USA Today.

The quartet of icons was announced back in January with an epic trailer directed by F. Gary Gray, who also helmed Straight Outta Compton, Set It Off, and Friday among his many notable works.

And for the first time ever, the Halftime Show included American Sign Language performers. Deaf rappers Sean Forbes and Warren “WaWa” Snipe were on hand to energetically interpret the music. This is the second Super Bowl for Snipe, who signed the national anthem and “America The Beautiful” last year, per Billboard.
