Kristen Bell Says She and Dax Shepard ‘Talk Sh-t About Each Other’ in Therapy

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are getting candid about how they make their marriage work. During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, guest-hosted by Chelsea Handler, Bell opened up about the challenges she and her husband faced while staying home in quarantine.

“At the beginning of the pandemic, we were at each other’s throats, and then all the doors locked in our house, like, we had to stay inside, and we were like, ‘Woof, we need to get a handle on the annoyances,’” the Gossip Girl star said during the interview, according to E!. Thankfully, Shepard had an idea about how to handle the pandemic.

The Good Place actor continued, “He suggested we go to therapy separately, kinda, so that we could talk shit about each other. And we did, and it’s been great. What we’ve been doing the last couple months is, every two weeks or so, I’ll see Harry via Zoom and complain about Dax, and then he’ll give me all the reasons why I’m wrong, and then Dax will do the same.”

She added, “And then, by the time we meet up in the evening, we love each other again because our toolboxes are bigger.”

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard tied the knot in 2013 and are parents to daughters Delta and Lincoln. The couple have been open about attending therapy together even before they got married. “Therapy is not something to be embarrassed about,” Bell said in a 2015 interview with Good Housekeeping. “There may be something that really hurt your feelings that you’re scared to bring up. Go talk about it with a therapist who can mediate. You’ll walk out of the room feeling like you’re [on the same] team.”

In the same interview Shepard said, “In my previous relationship, we went to couples therapy at the end, and that’s often too late. You can’t go after nine years and start figuring out what patterns you’re in.”
