Kate Middleton Just Re-Wore an Alexander McQueen Gown From 10 Years Ago

Kate Middleton is an outfit repeater! (And we love her for it.) 

On Sunday, October 17, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the 2021 Earshot Prize awards ceremony, an eco-friendly event hosted by Prince William to celebrate environment leaders working to save and protect the planet. Celebrities including Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Emma Watson were all in attendance and asked specifically not to purchase any new clothing for the ceremony.

Actor Emma Thompson shared that detail while presenting at the event.  “On our little notes, they said ‘Please do not buy anything new for this.’ Can you imagine? The relief! So I got my dame suit that I wore when I went to the palace,” she said, per People. 

Kate Middleton, who often recycles her favorite wardrobe staples, opted to bring back a fan-favorite gown from 10 years ago. The Duchess walked the green carpet in an Alexander McQueen dress she wore to a black-tie BAFTA event in Los Angeles back in 2011. 

Here she is in the lilac dress on July 9, 2011, just a few months after her wedding and two years before she welcomed her first child, Prince George:

And here she is 10 years later looking equally stunning in the McQueen gown, which she opted to pair with a gold belt this time around. Prince William complemented her look nicely in a green velvet suit, which felt very apropos.

The Earshot Prize awards ceremony will be held annually for the next 10 years. Each year, five scientists, activists, and organizations around the world will be awarded prizes of $1.3 million to further their environmental efforts. 

“The challenge the Duke set himself was, ‘What is the maximum positive personal contribution I can make in the next 10 years in the fight against climate change?” Royal Foundation chief executive Jason Knauf explained, per People. “‘What am I going to do in the next decade that means I can look my children in the eye and say that I did my bit?’ Every aspect of the Prize bears the stamp of his contribution.”
