‘Firefly Lane’ Season 2: Everything We Know About the Netflix Show’s Return

[ad_1]

Firefly Lane is officially coming back for season two! On Wednesday, May 26, Netflix announced that the series based on Kristin Hannah’s best-selling book of the same name will return in 2022.

Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, who play lifelong best friends Tully Hart and Kate Mularkey, revealed the news in a video posted to YouTube. “We don’t have all the answers yet, but trust us, it’s going to be worth the wait,” Chalke says. “And we promise all of your questions will be answered.”

Season one ended with a few cliffhangers, including the fate of Kate’s ex-husband, Johnny Ryan, and a major fall-out between Kate and Tully in the future (well, technically the past since the show’s present takes place in 2003, but the flash forwards are in 2005). We don’t know why Kate and Tully aren’t on speaking terms, but in the season two announcement video, Chalke says the issue is “family related and has nothing to do with Johnny. Nothing.”

So what else do we know about season two? Read on for more!

When will season two premiere?

Netflix says the series will return in 2022, but hasn’t revealed if that means early or late in the year. Considering that as of May 2021, it has yet to begin filming, our best guess is late winter or spring ‘22, but we’ll update this post as more information becomes available.

How many episodes will there be?

Season one consisted of 10 hour-long episodes, but so far Netflix hasn’t confirmed an episode count for season two.

Which actors will return?

Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke, obviously. As for the rest of the cast, no announcements have been made, but it’s a good bet everyone will be back. Roan Curtis, who plays teenage Kate, posted on Instagram, “Ooh baby let’s GOOO!! So excited to be reunited with all these wonderful humans for another season.” And Ali Skovbye, who plays teenage Tully, said, “See you guys soon!”

Beau Garrett—Tully’s mom—echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “Officially excited. Thanks to all of you who watched, supported, tweeted, instagrammed, messaged and shared. Can’t wait to do this all again.”

Firefly Lane author and executive producer Kristin Hannah celebrated the exciting news in her gorgeous backyard:

But what about Ben Lawson, who plays Kate’s ex-husband, Johnny Ryan? Last we saw him, he was in Iraq and involved in a horrific attack. Lawson hasn’t posted anything on Instagram since the series was renewed, but told us in February that he has high hopes for Johnny should he survive. “I definitely think Johnny needs Kate. He needs that real, good, kindhearted, honest person to ground him…I would like to see them together.”
