Billie Eilish Just Explained Why She’s Kept Her Hair Green for So Long

At this point, Billie Eilish’s green hair has become one of her signatures—and some fans aren’t exactly happy about that. Sadly, we live in a world that demands constant reinventions from our female pop stars, and Eilish’s fans are dragging her for keeping the same hair color.

But the “Bad Guy” singer shut down recent chatter demanding her to change. BuzzFeed posted a story December 22 that shows one Eilish fan commenting on her Instagram that a new hair color “would be nice.” She responded directly, saying the consistent hair color is a result of her “not being depressed anymore.” She then added, “Pls just be happy for me.”

In a separate comment, per BuzzFeed, she wrote, “This is the longest I’ve had the same hair color since I was 13 and that’s on mental stability and growth.” She tossed in a few crying emojis and random letters to show she does have a sense of humor about all this, though.

She hilariously shot down the green-hair haters on Instagram Story too. “Stop making fun of me! Oh my God,” she said in a joking tone. “I’m fucking making you an album! I will not put it out if you keep making fun of my hair. Shut up!”

Eilish added that she actually does plan to change her hair after the February release of her Apple TV+ documentary The World’s a Little Blurry. “It’ll be the end of the era,” she says. “I’m gonna give you a new era. I have announcements to make. I got some shit to put out. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. Leave me alone and let me live with my fucking hair that I’ve had for way too long.”

Here’s the thing: I predict fans will miss the green hair the second it’s gone, and Eilish does too. She “liked” the post, below, saying as much:

Green hair or not, I can’t wait for new Billie Eilish music.
