You Probably Missed This Incredible Detail on Anya Taylor-Joy’s Golden Globe Nails

Anya-Taylor Joy won the Best Actress in a Limited Series Golden Globe for her performance in The Queen’s Gambit. And she honored her character the night of the show with a subtle beauty choice. If you look closely—and I mean really closely—you’ll notice her nails have chess references, including chess pieces and a chessboard.

Kim Truong is the artist behind the beautiful nails. In addition to this fun beauty choice, Taylor-Joy was also wearing a custom Dior Haute Couture ensemble and more than $1 million worth of Tiffany & Co. diamonds. She was truly the epitome of glitz and glam.

This was Anya Taylor-Joy’s first major win for The Queen’s Gambit, and I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of her at upcoming shows. She told Deadline in a pre-Globes interview. “What makes me the happiest is that every year I spend working, I fall more in love with what I do, and I’m more certain that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing, and it’s just where I want to be.”

The 24-year-old actor continued, “I think there was a part of me, especially from what other people were saying around me, like, ‘If you keep working this way, you’re going to burn out, you’re going to become jaded, you’re really not going to love what you do anymore,’ and I see it as the opposite. I’m getting more fascinated with what I do, I’m getting more excited to push boundaries, and I want to test myself more.”

The Golden Globes ceremony was bizarre this year, to put it lightly. Between social distanced video acceptance speeches and technical difficulties, there wasn’t a lot of time to appreciate the nominees’ red-carpet looks. (Can we technically still call them that?) I’m now very curious to see what the Grammys and Oscars will have in store.
