Twitter Is Obsessed With Bowen Yang’s Titanic Sketch on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Justice for the Titanic iceberg!

On April 10, Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang stole the show when he joined Weekend Update as the actual iceberg that sunk the Titanic. While he claimed he was there to promote his new album—a hyper-pop EDM new disco Fantasia called Music—Colin Jost continued to ask about the fateful night of April 14, 1912.

But Yang’s iceberg didn’t want to talk about it. “That was a really long time ago. I’ve done a lot of reflecting to try and move past it,” he said of the upcoming anniversary. “It’s one very small part me, but there’s so much going on beneath the surface that you can’t see.” (You know, like an iceberg.)

Jost kept pressing, asking the iceberg what was going through his mind during the crash. “No, these are not the questions we discussed. This is not very nice, Colin,” the ice mountain snapped. “I think my publicist was very clear. I’m not here to talk about the sinking.”

That’s when the floodgates opened. “First of all, you came to where I live and you hit me! It was midnight. I was chilling. And then I hear this Irish cacophony behind me,” he explained. “And before I turn around and go, like, ‘What? Half my ass is gone, which was my best feature.”

Honestly, it wasn’t his fault! “Everyone’s talking about me, no one’s talking about the water,” The iceberg bemoaned. “What did the autopsy say, they iceberged-ed?  No, they drowned, bitch. That’s not me, that’s water. But nobody’s canceling the ocean.”

You can watch the full SNL sketch (as well as Yang’s performance of the iceberg’s song, “Lover Boy”) here.

Bowen Yang has been a fan favorite since he joined Saturday Night Live as its first Asian American cast member in 2019 (and a personal fave of mine since this exceptional Grey’s Anatomy lip-sync moment), but this particular performance had him trending on Twitter once again.

“I wonder if Bowen Yang’s back hurts from carrying SNL,” one user tweeted, while many others pointed out that Yang—who is currently a featured cast member—should have been promoted to regular a long time ago.

As another Twitter user put it: “We stan Bowen Yang. A true Ice Queen.”
