This ‘You’ Fan Theory Suggests Joe and Theo Are Half-Brothers

As fans consume You season three in all its bonkers glory, they, of course, are making theories about what’s to come. And one fan hypothesis on Reddit is particularly intriguing.

If you’ve watched the new season, you’re familiar with Theo, Love and Joe’s 19-year-old neighbor. He’s the stepson of Matthew, but we never met his mother. That last fact has some fans thinking a reveal is coming in season four—a reveal that Theo is actually Joe’s half-brother.

The evidence? Well, it’s pure speculation right now. In a flashback scene, we know that Joe runs into his biological mother again, and she’s with a young boy named Jacob. (But it’s not confirmed this is her son. It’s implied.) Fans chatting in this Reddit thread think Jacob could be Theo.

Love’s mother calls baby Henry “Forty,” after her late son, so we know characters on this show aren’t always referred to by their real names. Also, perhaps Theo is Jacob’s middle name, and he’s decided to go by that.

“I kept thinking throughout the series how similar Theo and young Joe looked,” one fan wrote in the comments. Meanwhile, the Reddit user who started the theory, @ihavealotofopinionss, posited, “Could Theo be joe’s half-brother? They kept Theo alive for a reason and showed Joe’s half-brother for the first time for a reason, no? Maybe him and his stepdad get involved with the FBI next season and try to solve this mystery and stuff and find out about them being brothers? Can they be brothers?”

Another fan responded, “Certainly possible. I don’t recall Joe’s age being mentioned anywhere, so with Theo being 19, the ages could work out if we assume Joe is in early 30s.”

So what do we think, fam? Is this possible? We’ll have to tune into season four when it drops to find out, but this would be wild if true. This Reddit user summed it up perfectly: “The odds that his brother from New York would end up in the same L.A. suburbs with him and living next door is soap-opera-level bullshit.”
