This $6 Concealer Makes It Look I Actually Sleep 8 Hours a Night

Despite only being around for five years, The Ordinary has already reached cult status thanks to its TikTok following and insanely affordable prices (we’re talking $5 serums, people). For its latest launch, the brand has ventured into makeup with its simply named The Ordinary Concealer, which clocks in at just $5.80.

Although this isn’t the brand’s first makeup product—it launched two foundation formulas a few years ago—I was a little skeptical. I get nervous when skin care brands do makeup and vice versa, plus $6 is so cheap. I’m also notoriously picky when it comes to concealer since I want something thick enough to cover pimples, but luminous enough to hide my insomnia-induced dark circles.

The Ordinary Concealer uses “a high-spreadability suspension system that offers very high coverage with a real skin finish,” per the brand. Basically, this means it has tons of pigment, but is lightweight and won’t settle into lines or creases. It comes in a tiny tube with an even tinier nozzle applicator, and is available in 36 shades, which is pretty impressive for the price point.

After: Does this look like a woman who was watching ANTM until 2 a.m.?

Right off the bat, I was intrigued by the texture. It somehow manages to be creamy and thick, yet very lightweight and spreadable at the same time. Plus, it was easy to blend in. Just like the description says, this stuff is pigmented. Only a few dots blended with a finger or sponge quickly covered my lack of sleep, and the concealer seamlessly blended into my foundation on my pimples. I did have to build up a few layers on my deep red acne scars, but everywhere else I found a drop or two was enough.

While the packaging isn’t the most luxe (although for $6, I’ll take whatever), I really liked the tiny dropper. It was so easy to get the exact right amount and pinpoint coverage exactly where I want it, which was a welcome change to the oversized doe-foot applicators in my stash. And while I found it looked best when I prepped my eyes with a heavier eye cream, it doesn’t crease or budge during the day.

Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. But this time, I got so much more.
