Taylor Swift Sent a ‘Sweet and Personal’ Handwritten Note to Olivia Rodrigo

We know Taylor Swift has at least two beloved Olivias in her life: her cat, Olivia Benson, and her new friend, Olivia Rodrigo. The “Shake It Off” icon is a huge fan of the “Drivers License” singer, and fans have been quick to lovingly compare their songwriting styles. Swift, like Rodrigo, broke through as a teen star whose songs about heartbreak captivated the world. But interestingly, the two had never met—until the 2021 Brit Awards in May.

Before they met up publicly, Swift sent Rodrigo a handwritten note. “I don’t want to divulge too much because it’s really sweet and personal,” she told Billboard. “But she talks a lot about how, I think, you make your own luck in the world. And when you do kind things to others, good things come your way.… I don’t know, she put it so eloquently, and when I say it now.… it’s not as cool.”

Rodrigo also sung Swift’s praises in another recent interview. “Obviously I think she is the best songwriter of all time, but she’s so business-savvy and she really cares about her career in that regard too—that’s been really inspiring for me to watch somebody take control of their career and their life like that,” the High School Musical actor said.

One way Swift has taken control of her career is by rerecording her old music. Rodrigo is a big fan of Tay’s album Speak Now, specifically, and told NME she’d love to hop on one of those songs in the rerelease. “I would love to be on a Speak Now song,” she said. “I’m just so excited to listen to them, though. I love listening to the vault recordings and stuff like that. I’m gonna own my masters, but I’ll listen to songs I’m not putting out and be like, ‘Maybe I’ll do a vault thing when I’m Taylor Swift’s age.’”

We may have to wait a minute for this hypothetical collab, though, because fans think the 1989 or Red rerelease is coming next.
