Sydney Sweeney Says This Sunscreen Saved Her Break-Out Prone Skin

It’s possible Sydney Sweeney had the best quarantine situation last year, considering the Euphoria actor spent three months during the pandemic at the Four Seasons Resort Maui in Wailea. “It was beautiful and we got all the pools to ourselves and just hung out,” Sweeney tells Glamour. “I am beyond grateful and thankful.”

The reason: The White Lotus, a new six-episode limited series now on HBO. The social satire, set in an exclusive Hawaiian resort (ahem, see above), stars an A-list lineup that includes Connie Britton, Steve Zahn, Jennifer Coolidge, Molly Shannon, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Lacy, and more. The series follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they indulge in the tropical, luxurious setting…but not all is what it seems. Sweeney plays Olivia, a privileged, snobbish high-schooler who’s vacationing with her parents (Britton and Zahn), brother (Fred Hechinger), and best friend, Paula (Brittany O’Grady). “She doesn’t see how privileged she is, but she thinks she does,” Sweeney says. “She tries to go against a lot of what her mom represents, and rebel in her own way.”

Fortunately, the complete opposite of what was happening off-camera. “It was the best comedy camp we could have ever been enrolled in,” Sweeney says. “Jennifer Coolidge is the most incredible dream. I’ve never met a more hilariously-herself kind of woman that I aspire to be one day. And Molly Shannon is so engaging and kind and really makes you feel heard. It was such a treat to be surrounded by so many incredible people.”

It’s a much different reality for Sweeney now, who called me after getting her daily COVID test for Euphoria (they’re in the middle of filming season two) and was on her way to pick up lunch. “On The White Lotus, we quarantined in our hotel rooms, and then after that we still weren’t allowed to leave the property and no one was allowed to come on to the property, so it started to feel like a very tropical version of The Shining,” she says with a laugh. “What an amazing way to spend the last few months of 2020. Like I said, very grateful.”

So with a tropical theme in mind, we had Sweeney play Glamour‘s Your Fave’s Faves, featuring her favorite things for the summer months. From bucket hats to sunscreen for sensitive skin, you’ll feel like you’re in Hawaii…or Hawaii-adjacent.

The bucket hat I love in every color

I’m a huge bucket hat fan. Lack of Color makes my favorite bucket hats. They have them in terrycloth and every color, pattern, and fabric. I’m a bucket hat or baseball hat type of girl.

My favorite summer sandals

I have a pair of Gucci slides that I like to slip on because they’re just easy to get off and on, plus they have a bit of a platform, which is great. If they’re too thin, my feet hurt. Plus, I can also throw them in the wash to clean them.

The sunscreen that works best for my sensitive skin

For my face, I use EltaMD regular sunscreen and it has saved me. I hate to admit this, but I spent many years not wearing sunscreen because I have such sensitive skin that my face broke out afterward. I struggled for a really long time to find the right one, but this one works.

The summer dresses I live in

I have a big collection of Reformation summer dresses because they never go out of style and they’re easy. I love all their floral designs because I’m obsessed with flowers. They’re dainty and cute. I have a few Brock Collection sundresses from over the years that I like throwing on. Dresses are great because I have a lot of anxiety just getting ready for the day, so this way I don’t have to figure out what top and bottom go together. I just have to figure out shoes and a purse.

The coziest sweats when the AC is on full-blast

I have become obsessed with Lou & Grey. They have the softest material I’ve ever touched before. I try to collect every color they have because they’re so comfy.

The makeup essentials I always carry with me

Burt’s Bees OG chapstick is in every bag of mine. If my skin is doing well, I like to use Glossier’s stretch concealer, and will use it as a light foundation as well. If my face is really stressed out, I’ll use Georgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation. Finally, I have to have blush, so I love Glossier’s cloud paint in their pink shade called puff. It’s perfect to take with you on the go and it lasts forever. I also really like Charlotte Tilbury’s blush as well.

My favorite hair accessory

Claw clips. I’ve been trying not to tie my hair as much because I definitely have breakage from bleaching my hair for Euphoria, and it’s really thin. I order these really pretty clips from Emi Jay, which you can customize as well. I really love them.

The most calming candle

There’s a store called Chandeliers + Tulips in Augora Hills, California. It’s a tiny mom and pop shop and all the clothes are handmade by women. They have these vanilla candles that are hand-poured that are to die for. They calm me down like no other candle can.

My favorite gadgets I always take with me

I have two gadgets that I go everywhere with. I have a vintage Contax film camera that I have slowly been learning how to use. I took it to Hawaii and posted some to Instagram of my first film role. Everyone on Euphoria is so beyond talented and knowledgeable about film cameras, that I feel like a slacker. So I got one and am slowly learning how to use it. And then my iPad because it does so much for me.

The luggage I’ve been buying for years

I am obsessed with Away. I have many, many suitcases of theirs. They last. I have a bright blue set which I think was a special edition, and a pastel, blush pink one as well.

The book that’s teaching me to breathe more efficiently

There’s a book that I’ve been turned onto called Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor and it’s all about our body’s health and the actual function of breathing.

My favorite snacks

I’m a cookie addict, especially chocolate chip. But for an easy snack, I eat barbecue chips or Cool Ranch Doritos, which I know will be an unpopular fave. They are my jam. I am actually doing a barbecue chip taster challenge because I want to see which one I like the most. I’ve been slowing collecting all the barbecue chips, so my pantry is full of different brands.

The TV shows I always watch

I turn on HGTV religiously. I love Property Brothers, I love Flip or Flop, Fixer Upper. I love Good Bones. I binged the first two seasons. The mom is hilarious and I love her. HGTV is my jam.
