Sarah Jessica Parker Is Taking Suggestions for How the ‘SATC’ Reboot Should Address Samantha
[ad_1]
As news of a Sex and the City revival at HBO Max was confirmed by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon, we couldn’t help but wonder: How would they explain the absence of Samantha Jones? It’s no secret Kim Cattrall is over and done with the series, and there have long been rumors that she didn’t get on well with Parker. (Though, for what it’s worth, Parker has shut this down several times.)
Now the creative team behind the SATC reboot will have to explain why one quarter of this iconic group of girlfriends is missing in action. And Parker might be open to fan suggestions.
On January 10, writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner tweeted a link to a news article about the revival and wrote, “Please respond below with your suggested plot line that explains Samantha’s absence,” to which the one and only Carrie Bradshaw responded, “Pen and paper at ready. X.” First of all: Carrie writes on a computer, so we’re not sure what the pen and paper are for, but point taken. She’s down to brainstorm!
Suggestions came flooding in. Everything from “Samantha died from a recurrence of her previously established cancer” (sad but makes sense) to “Samantha never existed” (okay…) got bandied about. Many fans, though, are simply rejecting the notion of a Samantha-less SATC.
My personal favorite workaround is the idea of simply casting Jane Krakowski. While no one can replace Cattrall, of course, Krakowski as Jenna Maroney on 30 Rock so thoroughly channeled the character’s brash confidence that we really think it could work.
Sarah Jessica Parker later hinted the show has already landed on an explanation for the character’s absence, though she didn’t confirm whether or not any fans had guessed it. “Exceeding all expectations. I am summoning discipline though desperate to suggest ‘hot/cold,’” she tweeted, implying some of the suggestions are close to the plan, while others are not.
This is stressful but we love it!
