Ryan Reynolds Gushes Over Blake Lively in Sweet New Speech: ‘She Is a Genius’

Ryan Reynolds is one of our premier Hollywood wife guys, and I mean that as a total compliment. He’s shown time and time again that he’s devoted to Blake Lively, as anyone should be to their partner, and he recently gave her the sweetest shout-out while accepting an award.

“I want to thank my wife, Blake. She is a genius. She’s a renaissance woman. And she pushes me in ways I never imagined I’d be pushed,” said Reynolds on Monday, November 1, while accepting the “entertainment and entrepreneurship innovator” accolade at WSJ Magazine‘s Innovator Awards, People reports. He’s right, and he should say it!

The Deadpool actor, who shares three daughters with the Gossip Girl star, recently announced that he’ll be taking a work break to focus on his family. He posted on Instagram that he would be taking a “little sabbatical” from film work, which might be anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. Lively simply commented, “Michael Caine did it first,” referencing recent (apparently untrue) rumors that Caine would be retiring. It could also be a reference to the fact that in the movie Reynolds was posting about, he plays Ebenezer Scrooge, the same role Caine played in The Muppet Christmas Carol. There are layers of Michael Caine connection here!

At the WSJ event, reports People, Ryan Reynolds expanded on his decision to take a step back from working, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m just trying to create a little bit more space for my family and time with them. You know, you don’t really get that time back.”

Both Reynolds and Lively have made their children a huge priority. Lively recently took an Instagram account to task for posting pictures of her daughters. She also thanked fans for their support, writing on Instagram Stories, “Thank you to everyone UNFOLLOWING accounts who exploit children. YOU make ALL the difference. Thank you for your integrity. Thank you.”
