Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first Netflix series has just been announced. Archewell Productions is partnering with the Invictus Games, an Olympics-style sports competition for sick and injured members and veterans of the military, to produce a documentary series titled Heart of Invictus.
According to a press release sent on April 6, the series will be directed by Orlando von Einsiedel and produced by Joanna Natasegara, the Oscar-winning team behind The White Helmets, Virunga, and Evelyn. It will follow athletes, coaches, and families as they prepare for the 2022 games at The Hague in the Netherlands, an event that was supposed to take place in 2020 but was postponed because of the pandemic.
In his previous life as a working royal, Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, were strong supporters of the Invictus Games. Prince Harry himself is a veteran of the British Army.
Prince Harry said in a statement, “Since the very first Invictus Games back in 2014, we knew that each competitor would contribute in their own exceptional way to a mosaic of resilience, determination, and resolve. This series will give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their path to the Netherlands next year. As Archewell Productions’ first series with Netflix, in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation, I couldn’t be more excited for the journey ahead or prouder of the Invictus community for continuously inspiring global healing, human potential and continued service.”
The Duke of Sussex will serve as an executive producer on the series and will appear on camera. No word yet if Markle will make an appearance—perhaps this is part of the prince’s planned summer trip, which Markle reportedly won’t be part of?
This is the first project to come out of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s partnership with Netflix, just one of the avenues they are pursuing to gain financial independence from the royal family. Prince Harry also has a position as the “chief impact officer” at BetterUp, a mental health coaching company.
There’s no release date yet for the series, but if you just can’t wait for Meghan-Harry content on your Netflix list, we hear their story inspired a plot line on the next season of Bridgerton….
