Oprah Winfrey Has Seen Those Memes From the Meghan and Harry Interview

Everyone needs an online friend. Someone who can navigate TikTok to find you cat content or that girl who filmed herself sleepwalking. For Oprah Winfrey, her online friend is director Ava DuVernay, who’s been sending the mogul all the best memes to come out of Winfrey’s interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The specific meme in question involves posting one or two reaction shots of Winfrey alongside a description of the thing the tweeter wants her to be reacting to. Pretty similar to the Drake Hotline Bling meme from a couple years ago, except this one doesn’t require you to upload any original pictures or graphics. You just post Winfrey listening patiently to one concept and then throwing her hands up in objection to another. The order can also be reversed! Winfrey says “no” to salsa but “maybe” to guacamole; she says “maybe” to a product but “no” to the price…you get it.

The meme started circulating in the wake of Winfrey’s interview with the Sussexes aired on CBS on March 7, and at some point, it caught the attention of DuVernay, who directed Winfrey in A Wrinkle in Time. On March 13, the Selma director revealed on Twitter, “I can’t stop sending her these. She’s like, ‘um, thanks.’”

Um, you’re welcome, Oprah! To fully climb inside the hive mind of this powerhouse friendship, we wanted to know exactly which memes had been sent, and after scrolling through DuVernay’s Likes for a while, we’re pretty sure it’s these:

Oprah Winfrey has yet to reply to these memes. But maybe she will…in meme form?

The Markle-Prince Harry interview was, of course, a social media sensation the second it happened earlier this month. Winfrey asked the couple about a host of topics, from their opinions on the royal family to fame. For a complete breakdown, click here
