Old Navy Responds to First Grader Asking for Girls’ Jeans to Have Real Pockets

An Evening Star Elementary School student named Kamryn asked Old Navy to start making girls’ jeans with real pockets, and the retailer responded.
The first grader’s school district shared this touching story (and her letter to Old Navy) on Facebook. Here’s what she wrote, in full:
Dear Old Navy,
I do not like that the front pockets of the girls’ jeans are fake. I want front pockets because I want to put my hands in them. I also would like to put things in them. Would you consider making girls’ jeans with front pockets that are not fake? Thank you for reading my request.
I couldn’t have written it any better myself. It’s clear, concise, and persuasive enough to warrant a response from the company. “She was frustrated her jeans didn’t have pockets, so I suggested and encouraged her, ‘What do we need to do?'” Kamryn’s mom, Kimberly, told Good Morning America. “She’s very passionate about life … and uses her voice.”
Old Navy responded with a handwritten note addressed to Kamryn: “Thank you so much for taking the time to write us about pockets on girls’ jeans. The Old Navy kids product team appreciates your information, it’s great feedback for us as we develop new products.”
The company also sent her four pairs of jeans in her size with pockets to show its “appreciation.” Gardner’s teacher, Ellie, described her to GMA as “unstoppable”: “It’s really exciting to see the world get a glimpse of her, fall in love with her, and be inspired by her passion.”
Let this be a lesson to everyone: When you want something done, raise your hand and say something. You never know who’s listening. Can’t wait for Kamryn to be running the entire fashion industry in 20 years—in a pair of jeans with pockets.
