Lady Gaga’s Latest Palette Was Inspired byHer Friendship With Tony Bennett

Despite just launching today, you’ve most likely already seen Lady Gaga’s newest beauty product, the Haus Labs Love For Sale palette, several times. The star notoriously tests all her products both on and off stage before they hit the market, and most recently she wore the eyeshadow at the Academy Museum of Motion Picture Opening Gala.

She also wore the palette at both her performances with Tony Bennett at Radio City Music Hall earlier this summer, as it’s inspired by her album with Bennett with the same name. Each of the palette’s 18 shades are named for Cole Porter songs—which also make up the album—as well as iconic female jazz singers like Billie, Etta, and Amy

The shades are a wearable mix of mattes, shimmers, metallics, and one crystal shimmer top coat, ranging from champagne to inky black, with some hot pink and olive green thrown in for good measure. The powders are made in Italy—“just like Gaga,” her team joked at an editor event—and were created to be buttery smooth and easy to build on from day to night. Like the rest of the line, the palette is vegan and cruelty-free, and $1 per sale will be donated to Bennett’s charity, Exploring the Arts, which provides access to the arts to underserved teens.

According to Sarah Tanno, Haus Labs’ Global Artistry Director and Gaga’s longtime makeup artist, the palette has been a labor of love and a long time coming. “When we recorded the album in New York with Tony years ago, it was something that we discussed at the Haus of Gaga,” she said at the event. “What are the looks going to be for this era? What are we inspired by? Let’s tell a story with it. Whether it was from the street to the stage or in the recording studio, we really like to think things through all the way. So I was looking at references from the ‘30s and ’40s, even the ‘50s and ’60s, and taking these classic makeup looks and colors, and then making them modern.”

She added that the layout of the palette itself was also inspired by a modern twist on classic makeup. “You’re getting all your transition shades and basic everyday colors in the most beautiful textured mattes,” says Tanno. “And then you have so many gorgeous shades to really amp up your look day to night, night and day—like the songs on the album that it was inspired by.”

The palette is a limited edition, so act fast if you want to get in on the action. Besides, it’s way cheaper than a ticket to Gaga’s Vegas residency.
