Jill Biden’s International Women’s Day Outfit May Have Been a Nod to Meghan Markle

Dr. Jill Biden is lifting up women with her words and fashion choices. The first lady partnered with the State Department to honor 21 women across the globe who received the International Women of Courage Award on March 8 (International Women’s Day). She seemingly also subtly celebrated one special woman by wearing a certain Oscar de la Renta dress.

Biden’s blue dress, covered in a lemon print, is reminiscent of a dress Meghan Markle recently wore to a Spotify event. The two looks have similar prints and are both made by Oscar de la Renta. Biden’s is selling for $2,890, and Markle’s is currently sold out, but the retail value price is $3,490. We don’t know 100 percent that Biden wore the dress in support of Markle, but it’s possible. This International Women’s Day event comes on the heels of Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, which has the whole world talking.

Of course, what Biden said at this IWD event is more important than her look. “Some of these women have spent their lives fighting for their cause,” the first lady said during her seven-minute speech. “Others are just starting out on a journey they didn’t ask for. Some were called to service, and some couldn’t escape it. They are fighting for their own lives and for their children. They want to right the wrongs of our past, to build a brighter future for everyone. They aren’t immune to fear. No one is.”

She added, “It’s easy to think of them as mythical heroes or angels among us. What else could explain such herculean acts of fortitude and fearlessness?”

Despite the potential meaning behind some of her fashion choices, it’s clear Dr. Jill Biden is dedicated to serving women. “You see, courage isn’t really found,” she continued. “It doesn’t conjure away our doubts. It’s an intentional decision made.”
