Speaking to Rolling Stone, the Marry Me star revealed that she doesn’t see a breakup in her future with Affleck, despite their past. “I don’t think we would have got back together if we thought that was where it was headed,” she said. “We feel like what we found again is so much more important, and how we protect that and how we live our lives—what to share, what not to share—is the balance that we have now, the benefit of experience and the wisdom that we gained over the years.”
She also reflected on the horrible treatment the couple received from the media and public during the early aughts, and how it didn’t match the loving relationship she was in at the time. “It’s funny because Ben and I were together, and we were so in love…. It was one of the happiest times of my life,” she said. “But also there was this other thing happening where we were being criticized, and it really destroyed our relationship from the inside out, because we were just too young to understand at that time what were really the most important things in life.”
She added, “It was brutal. It’s one of those things that you bury very deeply so you can move on and get about your business.”
Thankfully, the waters of dating in the public eye seem to have calmed ever so slightly. They’ve been hitting red carpets together, looking happy as famous clams, and a source even says there might be another proposal soon.
“It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance,” Lopez recently told People. “Before we kind of put [our relationship] out there and we were naive and it got a little trampled. We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things. We’re so protective because it is such a beautiful time for all of us.”
This relationship, like Jennifer Lopez herself, simply cannot be stopped.
