Gwyneth Paltrow Swears By This Hair Serum to Save Her Hair From Bleach
It’s safe to say Gwyneth Paltrow is the original influencer. Before she was making candles that smell like her vagina and bringing alternative health trends like bee sting therapy to the masses, her wellness empire Goop started off a as email newsletter where she would detail her current obsessions. Readers couldn’t get enough, and who could blame them?
Whether you’re a true Goop head or more of a skeptic, there is no denying Paltrow’s cool factor. From her minimal ‘90s style that’s all still all over Pinterest to her zeigest-shaping views on relationships—conscious un-coupling, anyone?—her impact knows no bounds.
In a true return to form, we caught up with Paltrow over the phone for a round of Your Fave’s Fave’s, in which Hollywood’s most popular people break down everything they’re loving at the moment. Below, the actor, CEO, and icon shares everything she’s currently obsessed with, from a personal sauna to the perfect French fries.
My favorite hair product
I love our new Goopglow Restore + Shine Hair Serum. The impetus behind that product was that I love to exercise in the morning—it’s my stress release and good for the body, et cetera—and I do a lot of Tracey Anderson. It’s in a very hot room and very sweaty, and I would have a tight ponytail. I found that my hair was getting damaged, so I wanted to do something that would be protective of the hair. Also, of course, my hair is damaged from bleach and wear and tear, so we started to formulate this to solve those problems. The other issue is that a lot of hair care products are pretty toxic. We wanted to try to do something that was totally non-toxic but actually would provide good results for the hair. We did the serum, and I’m really excited about it. It’s really good, I put it in before the sauna or before exercising. It really makes your hair feels softer and stronger.
My skin care favorites
I love my Goopglow Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator. It’s a powerful facial in a little jar inspired by professional microdermabrasion, and it polishes your skin and refines pores for visibly more glowy skin. Also, the Goopgenes All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil. It’s rare that a face oil gets amazing clinical results, but this one does. The secret is nine nutrient-dense oils, including bakuchiol, a retinol alternative. This stuff is just magic on my skin, especially after I exfoliate.
Both my mom and I use the Goopgenes All-in-One Nourishing Face Cream. It’s so moisturizing, and then you get all these incredible results when you use it. It melts right into my skin with this unique whipped texture. The Goopgenes Nourishing Repair Body Butter is a one-step hydrating miracle for beautiful, healthy-looking skin from head to toe. The subtle, citrusy scent is just so good.
The best way to spend a day off
Away from my phone and computer and next to the people that I love, like my husband and kids.
My comfort food
French fries. I love them. This sounds really weird, but there’s a fish market in Santa Monica, California called Santa Monica Seafood Market. You can sit at the counter and order food, or you could also just go to the fish counter, whatever. They have really good fries. I love going there for oysters and French fries, and there’s also Frenchette in New York.
The show I can’t stop watching
We’ve been watching Only Murders in the Building. It’s cute. I love Steve Martin and Martin Short. It’s funny, it’s really charming, and it’s really good. It’s different than what I usually watch. I usually watch really dark shit like The Handmaid’s Tale and murder documentaries like The Staircase. That’s what I always gravitate toward, but it’s nice to have a break.
My hangover cure
We make this thing called G.Tox. It’s a detox super powder, and it’s a freaking miracle for hangovers. It’s so good—that’s my main hangover cure. Then of course, French fries, anything fried will help. Or an IV. If it’s really bad, then an IV is the way to go.
My favorite recent purchase
I love Our Place. There’s a new pan called the Perfect Pot, and I’m very into it. It’s great. I love her pans, and I’m excited to add to the collection. It’s really good because you can deep fry in it, you can steam in it, and it comes with all the little extra stuff so you can make pasta sauce. It’s a great size.
My favorite dish to cook
I cook a lot of different things at home. I like things that are easy. We have a whole section on Goop that’s one pan dinners, like sheet pan dinners. I love that on a weeknight. There’s one that’s asparagus and bok choi all on one pan that’s so good. There’s also this woman named Diana Henry who wrote this book called From Oven to Table, and it’s a lot of one pan dinners. Some of them are a little more involved—they have more steps than just throwing it all into a pan—but I really like that book too.
The best thing in my closet
There are things in my closet that I’m sentimental about, like old dresses or something that I wore to somewhere. Right now, I’m super obsessed with my Chimala denim. It’s a Japanese jean company. They have a style called the Monroe Jean, after Marilyn Monroe.
My wellness essentials
It’s a little bougie, but I have a little personal-sized Clearlight sauna. It’s an infrared sauna for detoxification. It’s small, but it does the job and I’m very into that. I’m definitely super into my G. Tox wellness powder that I mentioned it before for hangovers, but also it’s really great liver support. I’m always trying to help my detoxification pathways.
You know what’s really great? This is a new fun thing, and I actually invested a little bit in the company: There’s a new detox kit coming out called Kroma, and it’s so delicious. The woman who founded it has this incredible matcha powder with turmeric and ginger. There’s amazing porridge and a nut butter for a snack. It’s the most delicious concoction you’ve ever had. The soup is bone broth powder that you pour hot water into. It’s delicious. You know how those things are always not palatable? This one is great. You feel so good on it, so that’s probably my number one for fall.
