Erika Jayne Drops Her Skincare Routine

Erika Jayne is extra in all the best ways. Case in point: During a conversation about skincare, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star tells me she’d “rather have my skin oiled up to the hilt and look like a French fry than a powdered donut.” I half expect her to be recording a new Real Housewives tagline.

There’s also her love of bust cream, which she speaks so convincingly of that I wonder why it’s never made it into my own routine. “I don’t know why American women don’t use it more,” she says matter-of-factly. “European women love it. You wanna wear something low and plunging, you don’t need creepy, dried-out décolleté.”

So the bottom line is this: Erika Jayne cares about skincare. A lot. And not just lasers and facials, but tried-and-true methods that we’ve always known, but frequently forget. “I can’t stress this enough: make sure your dermatologist really checks all your moles and skin tags and things like that,” she tells me. “Who doesn’t love a little micro-needling and a good ol’ laser, but I think really looking out for skin cancer is important first. And I mean all over your body—on your scalp, in between your toes, everywhere.”

For Jayne, protecting herself from the sun’s harmful rays started at an early age, which she credits her mom and grandmother for instilling in her. “I was covered in SPF as a kid, and have always been focused on healthy skin,” she says. Her biggest concern is managing the redness caused by rosacea; for that reason, if she’s not on-camera, she won’t wear makeup.

“I’m a month away from turning 50, and to me, if your skin is in good condition, your hair is in good condition, your teeth are in good condition, it’s more than aesthetics and grooming,” she says. “It’s reflective of your overall health and taking care of your body. And that makes me feel confident.”

Jayne also prefers to stick to the tried-and-true products that really work for her instead of jumping on the latest trends. So what is it about brands like iS Clinical and Sisley-Paris that has made Jayne an avid devotee? In Glamour‘s latest edition of Drop the Routine, she opens up about all that and more. Like we said: extra—and thank goodness for it.

My Skincare Essential

Aquaphor is in my purse, and I use it all the time. It sits by my nightstand. It is the one lip balm I’ve used forever. If you have super dry cuticles, you can use it there too. Sometimes I have a patch of eczema on the inside of my right thigh; if it flares up, I’ll put some Aquaphor on it.

My Cleansers

For my body, I use Cetaphil’s Eczema Calming Body Wash and Moisturizer everywhere from the décolleté and below. It’s great because it doesn’t dry me out and the moisturizer goes on my arms, legs, everywhere. If I am sweaty and gross, I will use the Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash that’s got a little bit of salicylic acid to get the grime off. Now, I can’t use it too much because I have eczema. But that will take any little breakouts you may have from sweat.

On my face, I use the fresh Seaberry Nourishing Cleansing Oil. It melts all the makeup away and you’re not tugging. You’re just lightly massaging and watching the oil come off. I also recommend Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water to remove waterproof eye makeup.

And then I use the iS Clinical cleansers to finish up. It’s kind of like a two-step process. I use the iS Clinical Honey Warming Cleanser and the iS Cleansing Complex

My Eye Cream

I can’t say enough about the iS Clinical brand. I love their Youth Eye Complex because it’s so moisturizing. Is it gonna give you an eye lift? No. A doctor does that. Botox does that. But does it moisturize those fine lines? Absolutely, and you need it. I use it morning and night.

My Face Oil

Furtuna’s Bi-phase Moisturizing Oil from Italy is really nice. The Italians love some olive oil, and I’m down with that! I also love Sisley’s Black Rose Precious Face Oil. It’s such a great brand.

My Moisturizers and Primers

I use the iS Clinical Intensive Creme when I’m feeling super dry, which is usually in the winter. Right now I switch to the lighter moisture, called the Youth Serum, but the Intensive Creme is really good.

Also, before I put on makeup, you can’t beat Bobbi Brown’s Face and Eye Base. The eye base is new, but the face base has been around for a long time. I use it every time I’m on camera for Housewives or before any type of photo shoot. It’s got that thick, creamy texture, so you’re not gonna look dry. For an under makeup application, I don’t think you can beat these two. A little bit goes a long way. And it just feels really, really, good.

My Go-To Spot Treatment

Old-school Mario Badescu drying lotion, where you stick the Q-tip in the bottom of the pink shit, and then you stick it on any spots. I mean, yeah! I’ve been using it since the ’90s. Why change?

My Face Mists

I love Madonna’s MDNA SKIN rose mist. Mario Badescu also has a great one that is reasonably priced. There’s the lavender one, an aloe one, and then of course, my favorite, the rose water one. I’ll tell you a trick, too: Let’s say you got a great blow-out for your hair and you’re feeling a little grimy because you’ve gone to the gym or been running around…just mist some rose water in there. I promise you’ll feel good, and it will make you feel fresher.

My Bust Cream

So many women think that skin care stops at their chin, and you’ve really got to take care of your neck and your whole décolleté because that shows age as well. I love Sisley’s Phytobuste + Décolleté cream. It’s a fierce ass bust cream; bust cream overall, in my opinion, is underrated.

My Sunscreens

LaRoche-Posay’s Anthelios Light Fluid Sunscreen, if you want full-on protection that’s great if you’re going to be outside swimming and stuff like that. I also like iS Clinical’s Extreme Protect SPF40.
