Emma Watson returned to social media after nine months to address some rumors about her life and career.

The Bling Ring actor published a series of tweets on Monday, May 17, addressing speculation she’s engaged to boyfriend Leo Robinton and that she’s “retiring” from acting. Based on her messages, both of these stories appear to be untrue.

“Rumours about whether I’m engaged or not, or whether my career is ‘dormant or not’ are ways to create clicks each time they are revealed to be true or untrue,” Watson wrote. “If I have news – I promise I’ll share it with you.”

She continued, “In the mean time please assume no news from me just means I’m quietly spending the pandemic the way most people are – failing to make sourdough bread (!), caring for my loved ones and doing my best not to spread a virus that is still affecting so many people.”

Watson ended her message with, “I am sending so much love to you, hoping you’re ok and as well and happy as you can be in these strange times. And again, thank you to everyone working so hard to keep us safe and well.”

Emma Watson’s own manager at Untitled Entertainment, Jason Weinberg, shut down speculation that her career had gone “dormant” back in February. “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t,” he told EW in a statement

As for her relationship, Watson was first paired with Robinton back in October 2019, People reports; they’ve kept things pretty low-key and out of the spotlight since then.

Watson has not released a film or television project since 2019’s Little Women remake, directed by Greta Gerwig. (Watson played Meg, the eldest March daughter.) Prior to that, she released The Circle with Tom Hanks and starred as Belle in the live-action Beauty and the Beast.
