Emma Roberts Shared the First Photo of Her Newborn Son—And Revealed His Full Name

Emma Roberts reportedly welcomed her first child with boyfriend Garrett Hedlund in late December 2020. And now, she’s introducing him to the world.

On Tuesday, January 12, Roberts posted a photo of her newborn son to Instagram—and also revealed his full name.

“Thank you 2020 for getting one thing right ☀️,” she wrote in the pic, which shows her swaddling her baby boy. For now, Roberts is choosing not to show his face. “ Our bright light Rhodes Robert Hedlund 🧡”

Emma Roberts confirmed her pregnancy back in August 2020 with a baby bump pic on Instagram. “ Me…and my two favorite guys 💙💙,” she wrote, referring to Hedlund and Rhodes.

But her announcement didn’t go as planned. It turns out her mom, Kelly Cunningham, spilled the beans early. After a tabloid reported Roberts was expecting (without confirmation), Cunningham started replying to fans on Instagram who were offering congratulations. “It led to interacting with my fans and just thanking them for all their pregnancy wishes,” Roberts told Jimmy Kimmel. “It was a disaster, and I found it all out on a plane, so I couldn’t get to her. I couldn’t call her or attack her.”

Roberts continued, “She was like, ‘Thank you so much for the well-wishes! We’re so excited.’ It was endless. My friends were sending me screen grabs. It was unbelievable. When I said to her, ‘Mom, you revealed my pregnancy.’ She goes, ‘Emma, you announced it!’ And I said, ‘No I didn’t. That was a tabloid.’ She goes, ‘Oh I didn’t…. That wasn’t clear.’”

She opened up to Glamour in October 2020 about the unique experience of being pregnant during the middle of a global pandemic. “It’s been really an interesting time in the world to be pregnant right now,” she said. “It’s definitely caused a lot of introspection, but I think it’s been amazing to really sit with myself and really turn inward in a way I never have before and be still. That’s been really nice, and I feel really grateful to have gotten to do that. To not just be running from one appointment to the next or one job to the next. I’ve really had to be present with myself, and that’s been—some days you wanna crawl out of your skin, but other days you feel really good and really grateful.”
