Emily Ratajkowski Almost Didn’t Post This Abs-Baring Photo: ‘It’s My Damn Body’

Emily Ratajkowski is not going to let Internet critics rule her life.

On November 24, the 30-year-old model took to Instagram to share her look from the CFDA Fashion Awards, despite fearing that the abs-baring look would lead to judgmental comments

“CFDAs ! thank you @miumiu and congratulations @ninagarcia,” Ratajkowski wrote in the caption of her Miu Miu outfit snapshots. She added, per People, “(Almost didn’t post this bc I knew the controversy it would stir up but hey it’s my body and I’m not going to lean into shaming! God bless!)”

The parenthetical part of that comment has since been deleted, but the model also shared an almost identical on Instagram Stories, writing, “Almost didn’t post this bc I knew the controversy it would stir up but hey it’s my damn body and I’m not going to lean into shaming! God bless!”

Despite the caption, Ratajkowski’s point went straight over some judgmental users’ heads, but many fans also stood up for the My Body author. “Worry about your own bodies damn,” one follower commented

Emily Ratajkowski is, unfortunately, no stranger to vicious attacks on social media—whether her detractors are discussing her body or her parenting skills. In March Ratajkowski welcomed her first child, Sylvester Apollo Bear, and has been facing criticism from mommy shamers even before baby Sly was born.

On July 16, the model took to Instagram to respond to these “awful remarks” on her Instagram posts. “We are all reflecting back on shaming Britney [Spears] and calling her a bad mom,” Ratajkowski wrote over a car selfie, per Us Weekly. “We talk about how we have to ‘do better’ as a culture. Meanwhile, my comments are filled with awful remarks about how I don’t deserve to be a mom. Shame on you all.”

She continued on her Instagram Stories post, “I don’t care if you hate me or hate celebrity (or just hate women) but it’s incredibly scary to become a parent and no one deserves to be told by strangers that they’re a shitty mother.”

It’s no wonder Ratajkowski feels anxious when posting to social media. Perhaps it’s time we all start thinking before we comment.
