Courteney Cox Opens Up About the Cosmetic Injections That She Says Left Her ‘Looking Really Strange’

Courteney Cox has been in the spotlight on and off for almost 40 years, tackling sitcom darling roles along with her Scream Queen status. But at this point in her career, the 57-year-old actor says she feels ready to embrace aging in a way she never has before. 

The Friends star opened up in a recently published interview with The Sunday Times Style about her experience with cosmetic procedures and how her outlook on it now differs from when she was younger. “There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older.’ And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years,” she told the British paper. “And I didn’t realize that, oh shit, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.” 

Growing up as a child of divorce, Cox notes how her own mother’s focus on beauty and looks pushed Cox to inspect her own apperance. Now, as a mother herself, Cox sets to make an example for her 17-year old Daughter Coco, whom she shares with former co-star and former partner David Arquette. 

When it comes to her past with cosmetic procedures, Cox points towards the conversations she’d have with friends on how much these procedures really changed her. “People would talk about me, I think,” she says. “But there was a period where I went, ‘I’ve got to stop. That’s just crazy.” Cox also agrees that the “scrutiny” is intense for women in Hollywood, though “I don’t know if it could be more intense than what I put on myself.” 

At this point in her career, Cox is leaning into more roles and businesses that fit where her life is at now. In her new comedy-horror series for STARZ, Shining Vale, Cox plays an erotica novelist who moves to a new town with her husband (Gregg Kinnear) and two children while tackling her depression, sobriety, and the eery vibe of their new house.

And adding to the ever-growing list of celebrity beauty brands, Cox is throwing her hat into the ring with home-care items, specifically a hand wash, hand cream, dish soap, and surface cleaner. Launched this past January, her new venture—aptly named Homecourt—is a skincare-inspired brand that focuses on sustainable packaging and ingredients, along with refined fragrances for an aesthetically pleasing experience. In her own words, she told the Times, “I’m a product whore,” so it leaves no surprise that she’d progress into this rapidly growing industry.

Even though she has a few years before reaching 60, Cox is ready for this new stage of her life. “There’s nothing wrong with being 60, I just can’t believe it. Time goes so fast,” she says. “There’s no question that I am more grounded, I’ve learnt so much in my life—what to enjoy, what to try to do more of and what to let go of.”
