Christian Siriano Shares the Easiest Way to Look Stylish on Your Next Zoom Call

[ad_1]

It’s a bit ironic: Christian Siriano, a famous fashion designer whose job it is to make clothes, is teaming up with ThredUp, the world’s largest online thrift store, to advocate buying secondhand.

But even Siriano knows that with great power comes responsibility—and in this case, he wants to do his part. “Reuse is one of the best things we can do for the planet,” he tells Glamour. “But no one knows when clothes are thrifted because there is no visual identifier.”

To that end, Siriano created with ThredUp the Thrift Logo, intended to be the first universal symbol for secondhand clothing. Designed by the Project Runway winner, it’s an iron-on patch made from 100% recycled textiles in the shape of a hanger aimed, as Siriano says, to “empower customers to wear thrifted clothes proudly and inspire others to be less wasteful.”

Siriano also wants to make it clear that it’s okay to buy new too. His motto this year is “to shop mindfully,” so he’ll be sending a mix of gifts from his own collection (like his Christian Siriano face masks) as well as thrifted finds to friends and family. “I like to give gifts that have meaning,” he says, “as well as clothing from past collections that are older but still can help protect the planet by not making anything new. I’m focusing on giving thoughtful, unique gifts that I know people will use again and again.”

So what else does Siriano recommend as you’re doing your holiday shopping? For our latest edition of Your Fave’s Faves, he shared some great buys, as well as the ugly Christmas sweater he’s a big fan of.

The most comfortable activewear

If you’re looking for sweats and tanks that you can work out or work from home in, I just launched my Siriano Sport collection that’s perfect for any activity. The “People are People” joggers show that you can be comfortable while making a strong statement. And if you’re looking for sustainable styles that are good for the planet and wallet-friendly, ThredUp has tons of like-new styles.

Statement pieces to wear now

Masks are the ultimate statement piece this year, as well as ladylike hats with a bit of an edge thanks to eye-catching, coordinating prints. If that’s too bold for your daily Zoom meeting, you can get the look by pairing a headband with a blouse in a coordinating print. Nostalgic ’90s fashion is in right now, so just think Cher from Clueless!

The best T-shirts and jeans for women

For a white tee, I really love Karla Welch’s T-shirt collection. Classic and chic. If you’re looking for size-inclusive denim, I love Good American. They have great options for curvy girls.

The shape-wear I always recommend

Kit Undergarments is a cool new shape-wear brand from a celeb stylist that looks great under all your runway-worthy looks as well as for everyday. The proper shape-wear is so important as a foundation for a great look.

My go-to shopping app

I love 1stDibs and Chairish for locating amazing items that are vintage and one-of-a-kind. I’m passionate about decorating, and I can spend hours browsing the site for special finds. Also, ThredUp offers endless new arrivals and its app is great for a fun treasure hunt and gathering inspiration.

The TV character with the best style

Emily in Paris is my new guilty pleasure, and I was so honored to offer up one of my prefall gowns for the Audrey Hepburn–inspired look in the show. Lily Collins is such a fashion icon, which is why I’m so excited that she’ll be the first of my friends to rock the Thrift Logo on a thrifted top from ThredUp. I’m thrilled that celebrities like Lily are making positive statements with their clothing.

The ugly Christmas sweaters I love

I love my friend Whoopi Goldberg’s ugly Christmas sweaters! They are the best! I believe in having fun with your clothing! My recent runway collection included embellishments and appliqués that add a sense of whimsy. If you’re a DIY person, grab your craft supplies and jazz up that old sweater in your closet for a festive look that no one else will have.

My favorite new handbags

I’m loving this young bag designer, Valerine Blaise of Vavvoune. They are super cool and chic.

The perfect coffee-table book

Kelly Wearstler’s books are very inspiring for anyone! I’m passionate about home design and am always looking at images to draw inspiration. Kelly’s style is outrageous yet approachable, which is an aesthetic that speaks to me. She’s so creative, and I love the way she mixes bold prints, patterns, textures, and the pieces feel like art.

The product I can’t recommend enough

The Hypervolt massage device is amazing and the best gift for yourself. It’s so relaxing to use after a workout or just a particularly stressful day. With everyone working from home, it’s important to prioritize self-care.

The wellness trend I’m addicted to

A jade roller. I use it before photo shoots. I like to put my best self forward, and looking good helps me feel good. It’s also pretty enough to leave out in your bathroom.
