Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’s Relationship: A Complete Timeline

“Our paths just didn’t cross in that way romantically until we started hanging out again and writing. For me, it just brought it back,” the singer explained.

On November 26, Cabello chatted with BBC Radio 1’s Greg James and responded to everyone criticizing her PDA with Mendes—particularly when she and her beau posted a make-out video to Instagram. When a fan called in with an “unpopular opinion” claiming “public displays of affection on Instagram are too much,” the 22-year-old took it personally, according to Us Weekly.

“Ouch. Well, I feel personally targeted. I feel personally attacked,” Cabello said, adding sarcastically, “Yeah, PDA is terrible. Kissing in public? I don’t even….”

The “Liar” singer went on to defend her actions with Mendes, saying that living her life in the public eye—and repeatedly being targeted by paparazzi—has made her care less about sharing her intimate moments on social media.

“You honestly get kind of desensitized to it. You’re like, ‘Well, might as well just make out on Instagram!’” she said. We’re not complaining, Camila.

December 2019

On December 5, Cabello finally shared the real reason she and Mendes don’t kiss on stage during their steamy “Señorita” performances.

“I actually just get shy, weirdly,” she told Extra. “I feel like I would kiss him in the dress rehearsal, but then we are onstage and then something stops me.”

Then, during an interview on Ellen, Cabello admitted she and Mendes were “babies” about their feeling towards each other. In fact, she said she had a “crush” on the Canadian crooner years before the two made things official.

“I for sure had a crush…. We were stupid. I think we both had a crush, but were being babies about it,” she said. “But we’re grown now! But I definitely, definitely, definitely had a crush.”

The 22-year-old pop star also stopped by The Tonight Show where she told Jimmy Fallon how difficult it was for her to call her boyfriend “baby” during their friendship-to-romance transition.
