Beyoncé Now Has More Grammys Than Any Woman in History

Some incredible news from the 2021 Grammys: Beyoncé now has the most wins in history by a woman artist. 

After winning best rap song with Megan Thee Stallion for “Savage” and best R&B performance for “My Parade,” Beyoncé now has 28 Grammys—more than any other woman in history. Tied with and ahead of her are just two men: Quincy Jones with 28 awards and Georg Solti with 31. That’s a major accomplishment, and Beyoncé looked visibly shocked as she was learning this. 

Beyoncé was nominated for nine Grammys this year, including record of the year and song of the year. 

Her visual album, Black Is King, dropped last summer, and Beyoncé opened up about it on Instagram. 

“The events of 2020 have made the film’s vision and message even more relevant, as people across the world embark on a historic journey,” she wrote. “We are all in search of safety and light. Many of us want change. I believe that when Black people tell our own stories, we can shift the axis of the world and tell our REAL history of generational wealth and richness of soul that are not told in our history books.”

She continued, “With this visual album, I wanted to present elements of Black history and African tradition, with a modern twist and a universal message, and what it truly means to find your self-identity and build a legacy…. This experience has been an affirmation of a grander purpose. My only goal is that you watch it with your family and that it gives you pride.” 

Beyoncé isn’t the only Knowles-Carter to make Grammys history tonight. Her daughter, Blue Ivy, is credited on “Brown Skin Girl,” which took home the prize for best music video. This makes Blue the second youngest Grammy winner in history. This is quite literally a family full of legends!
