Becca Tobin’s Guide to the Best Pet Accessories

Actor, podcaster, and author Becca Tobin has just arrived in Los Angeles from Austin, Texas when she Zooms with me in the car on the way to a work meeting. Don’t worry, she’s not driving—that honor goes to her lifelong friend and Lady Gang co-podcaster, Entertainment Tonight correspondent and host Keltie Knight. “She’s Kris Jenner-ing her way through my very full week,” Tobin says with a laugh. Keltie confirms: “I’m the best stage mom of all time!”

All jokes aside, it’s just one of the many reasons why Tobin and Knight—along with their Lady Gang partner Jac Vanek—are so beloved by their many fans. Their friendship is real and deep, the kind that will brave the traffic and pain of an LAX airport pickup.

It’s also been a long time coming. Tobin spent six months last year in Vancouver filming Disney+’s Turner & Hooch, a legacy sequel to the hit 1989 film starring Tom Hanks and a French Mastiff, and then recently moved with her husband to Austin.

But with so much change, there was one constant: furry, four-legged animals. “Being on set with those dogs was a dream,” the 35-year-old former Glee star says. “We were all very serious with COVID safety protocols, but then this big drool-y dog walks on set and adds so much levity and joy. I was just enchanted with these big giant creatures.”

Off-camera, Tobin and her husband have two dogs of their own—Orly and Barbara—but she confesses it’s an entirely different experience when you’re working with a French Mastiff. “I was not used to the amount of drool, the amount of shedding, or the odor,” she says. “But their demeanor was lovely!”

Something else she wasn’t quite used to? Wearing supportive undergarments and high heels again to play prosecuting attorney, Brooke Mailer. “Putting on bras and Jimmy Choo’s and Manolo Blahnik’s were so foreign to me after being in puffy socks and sweatpants for so long! I was relearning how to dress like an adult again.”

Ironically, Tobin comes from three generations of attorneys and admits it was actually pretty fun to wear power suits on the set. “I’m pretty nostalgic for it because I grew up seeing my mom put on a suit and go into court. My sister puts on a suit every day, and my dad and my grandfather. So I really did go into the family business,” she says, before adding, “I just didn’t have to go to law school to do it.”

But back to the dogs: After spending so much time with her furry friends at work and at home, Becca Tobin has the best suggestions for pet accessories and toys. And even if you’re not a pet owner, she’s got great suggestions for pretty much everything else, too. Time for another edition of Glamour‘s Your Fave’s Faves.

My favorite pet subscription service

BarkBox. Every month they send you toys and treats for your dog. My dog, Orly, sees a small cardboard box now and just assumes it’s her box for the month. She loses her mind. The box has adorable stuff for her in it.

The perfect harness for my dog

BuddyBelts, a leather harness for dogs. It’s hard to find cute, not cheesy, harnesses and collars for dogs. The one I have is tan. I figure if I had to wear a harness, that’s what I would want to wear.

The dog bed my dogs love

The BDEUS dog bed. It’s a memory-foam dog mattress, basically. I got one of these beds over the holidays when we were in Vancouver and it’s the only bed Orly’s ever really taken a liking to.

The most practical and stylish fanny pack

I have two fanny packs that I’ve been wearing forever. One is Clare V., which is such a great brand. It’s solid black and I get so many compliments. It’s a great size and style. And then Senreve, which is really structured and sleek. I can either do it across the waist or across the chest, but it’s a really beautiful, pebbled leather.

My favorite way to take a moment for myself

I take a really long shower. I do a scalp scrub followed by a hair mask. I shave every hair off my body. I get out, I lather OSEA Algae Body Oil. It’s liquid gold. And then I do a foot treatment. Olive & June makes these really big fluffy pink socks, that are meant to go with their intense heel bomb. Then I get on my couch and watch hours and hours of Housewives. I should have no brain cells left by the end of it, but it is the most amazing day for me.

The sweatshirt I live in

My OG Lady Gang Sweatshirt. Every couple months we do a March Drop, and Jac Vanek has her own clothing line. She designs all of our Lady Gang stuff and it’s fun. We made sure to get the best quality sweatshirts and shirts that people actually want to wear, when you’re craving something soft and cozy.

My favorite item in my closet

This vintage Pucci dress that my maternal grandmother wore in her twenties in Miami. It’s colorful and really sassy with a fun sleeve. It’s lived with me everywhere, and I’m never getting rid of it. It makes me happy.

The makeup products I always carry with me

Brows Studio City has the best brow gel that I always carry with me. I go there for my brows as well to get them shaped and tinted. And then Charlotte Tilbury’s lip liners have always been a steady product in my makeup bag. They are amazing. Also, ILIA has a multi-stick for cheeks, lips, eyeshadow. I just love their products so much.

My favorite snack

A sour cream and cheddar Ruffles chip. I’m so mad at my husband because before he and I started dating, I think I’ve had them maybe once in my life as a child. I never revisited them. But then seven years ago my husband and I started dating and he would always get these chips with his sandwiches, and then buying them for the house. The moment one is in your mouth, you’re reaching back into the bag. It’s really dangerous for me. If I want something healthy, I always go for watermelon. I still can’t figure out how to cut it properly, but it’s my go-to.

My favorite movie from 1989, when the OG Turner & Hooch came out

Troop Beverly Hills is my favorite movie, and that came out in 1989. It doesn’t get any better than Phyllis Nefler. Steel Magnolias also came out in 1989 as well as Weekend at Bernie’s and Uncle Buck. Those movies were my childhood in a nutshell.

The TV show my husband and I can’t stop watching

My husband and I are now addicted to this show on HGTV called Renovation Island. We’ve gone through two seasons in a very embarrassingly short amount of time. It’s this couple from Toronto who took over this beat down vacant hotel in The Bahamas. He’s a builder and she’s a designer and they spend the whole season fixing up [the Caerula Mar Club]. I want to go there now.

The vacation spot I can’t wait to go back to

Thank goodness my husband and I agree that Italy is the best place on earth. We went to Sardinia when we first started dating and that was our favorite place. We stayed in Porto Cervo and spent every day on a boat. It was the most beautiful place with the most beautiful people and wonderful food.

The book I’m reading right now

I’m currently reading Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur. It’s based on a true story and it’s amazing. And then I always recommend Many Lives, Many Masters. It’s a really cool book about past lives. If you’re into that kind of stuff, it’s remarkable.
