Barack Obama Revealed Malia’s Boyfriend Quarantined at Their House During the Pandemic

Barack Obama has been making the rounds promoting his new book, A Promised Land, and he’s revealed so many tidbits—including how the former first family spent the early days of quarantine.

During an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, Obama spilled even more tea, namely that his oldest daughter Malia’s boyfriend actually quarantined with the family for a while. Can you imagine?!

“I think, [like] a lot of families, we went through that first month where we were playing games every night and doing little arts and crafts projects and then slowly they started to get a little bored with us,” Obama said. He then added that teaching his daughters and Malia’s boyfriend, “who was with us for a while,” Spades was a quarantine highlight. Did you catch that?

“He’s British, wonderful young man, and he was sort of stuck because there was a whole visa thing and he had a job set up,” Obama said of Malia’s BF. “So we took him in and I didn’t want to like him, but he’s a good kid. The only thing you discover—[and] this is not a surprise to you, Bill, because you’ve got a son—young men eat. It’s weird to watch them consume food. My grocery bill went up about 30%.”

Simmons called this the “biggest revelation” of the podcast, and we agree. I  mean, this sounds like a sitcom in the making: A former first daughter’s boyfriend has a major Meet the Parents moment when he has to live with her family for weeks. I already see the opening credits! Who do we call to green-light this project? Maybe the Obamas, since they have a deal with Netflix? Until then, we’ll make sure we’ve caught up on all of Barack Obama’s favorite TV shows, which he recently listed in a new interview.  (Click here to see.)
