Ashley Olsen Casually Carries a Machete on a Hike In Rare Photo by Her Boyfriend

Ashley Olsen doesn’t always let herself be photographed, but when she does, it’s in The Walking Dead cosplay.

On July 9, Olsen’s boyfriend Louis Eisner posted a rare photo of the fashion mogul taking a hike with a few interesting props. Wearing a white sweatshirt, linen pants, and black Yeezy sneakers, The Row founder topped the look off with a black baseball cap and large sunnies. This is pretty typical Hollywood A-lister fare, but Olsen was also carrying what appears to be a glass of scotch and…a machete? Casual.

Eisner, an artist who has reportedly been linked to Olsen since 2017, provided no further context for the photo, so we can only imagine what world-saving, dystopian world-ending adventures the pair got up to.

In June, the Olsen twins opened up to i-D about their minimalist style, which Mary-Kate Olsen credits to being raised as “discreet people.” 

“I think that potentially that’s just our aesthetic, our design preference,” Ashley Olsen added. “But that doesn’t mean that we don’t also appreciate something truly ornate or maximal.” I’d call wielding a machete maximal for sure.

The Olsens are so discreet, apparently, that WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen even considered changing her last name when she first tried acting. “I thought, ‘I don’t want to be associated with [Mary-Kate and Ashley],’ for some reason,” she told Glamour U.K. “I guess I understood what nepotism was like inherently as a 10-year-old. I don’t know if I knew the word, but there is some sort of association of not earning something that I think bothered me at a very young age.”

Ultimately, the youngest Olsen sibling decided not to go by Elizabeth Chase when she truly started her acting career in 2011 and even went to her sisters for some sage advice. One specific lesson they taught Olsen that still sticks with her? “‘No’ is a full sentence.”

“The word ’No’ specifically was something that I remember my sisters isolating and it becoming really empowering,” the Marvel star said. “For women, it’s a really empowering word. People say “Just say no to drugs,’ but truly, you can just say no whenever the hell you want! It’s really a powerful thing.”
