Andy Cohen Regrets Dissing Ryan Seacrest on New Year’s Eve: ‘I Was Just Stupid and Drunk’

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live show for the fifth year in a row, ringing in 2022 together. During the broadcast Cohen and Cooper took shots together, and as the evening pressed on, Cohen’s filter dropped.

During their New Year’s Eve commentary, Cohen shaded some public figures, including former New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, saying, “The only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been.”

Cohen’s remarks also extended to rival New Year’s Eve broadcast Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest.

“There’s a bunch of smoke coming from Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers that are performing behind us,” Cohen told viewers. “If you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you’ve seen nothing, I’m sorry.”

Sure enough, the morning after, Cohen admitted on Instagram that he was a “hair overserved,” with bottles of tequila and shochu in the accompanying picture.

On his podcast Radio Andy, Cohen continued addressing the viral rant, adding that the only thing he regretted was his criticism of Ryan Seacrest’s ABC broadcast.

“The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing, is that I slammed the ABC broadcast,” Cohen said on the show. “I really like Ryan Seacrest, and he’s a great guy. I really regret saying that, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”

Fans of Andy Cohen’s New Year’s Eve antics need not fret: His rant is not putting his host gig in jeopardy. In a statement to People, CNN shut down rumors that Cohen might lose the hosting job.

“Andy said something he shouldn’t have on live TV,” a CNN spokeswoman told People. “We’ve addressed it with him and look forward to having him back again next year.”

Looks like 2022 is already off to an interesting start.
