Andy Cohen Admits He Was ‘Overserved’ After Dissing Ryan Seacrest During His NYE Special

It seems Andy Cohen took a page out of his co-host Anderson Cooper’s book and had a little too much to drink the night of CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live special.

On December 31, Cohen didn’t hold back his opinions about fellow celebrity interviewer Ryan Seacrest’s own New Year’s Eve special, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, which was happening a stone’s throw away from where he and Cooper were standing. (He also had a lot to say about Mayor Bill de Blasio, but  that’s a whole other thing.)

“If you look behind me, you’ll see Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing,” the Watch What Happens Live host said, per Us Weekly. “I’m sorry but if you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing.” Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’s musical guests included Ashanti, Ja Rule, and Journey led by Arnel Pineda.

“We were doused with confetti from fake Journey on ABC. If it’s not Steve Perry, it doesn’t count! You get it? It’s not Journey!” he also said at another point. “It’s propaganda! It’s propaganda! It’s not Journey! It’s not Journey! No, that was not Journey. Steve Perry is Journey.”

Many people on Twitter were losing it over Cohen’s remarks. One user wrote, “Andy Cohen calling Ryan Seacrest live (and wasted) on national TV a loser already won 2022.”

Of course, not everyone found the exchange funny. “SO. Rude. I’ll take family-friendly Dick Clark NYE with @RyanSeacrest over drunk CNN anchors & @Andy any day,” TV host Stephanie Bauer tweeted. “Every year CNN NYE gets more embarrassing & sloppy…now rude & hateful too.”

Though Andy Cohen did not specifically mention his remarks about Seacrest’s show, Cohen did send out a tweet on January 1, writing, “Good morning! Um, I was a bit overserved last night…”

This is not the first time drunken antics have taken over New Year’s Eve Live, though this time last year, it was Cooper who inspired the most tweets. In fact, for many viewers, the last words they heard in 2020 were, “We’ll be right back! Anderson’s drunk!” Click here for the most memorable moments from that night.

“I watched every episode of Tiger King, Breaking Bad, Better Caul Saul, The Crown, Queens Gambit—yet with two hours left, this is the finest moment of television in 2020,” Judge Reinhold tweeted about the spectacle.

We wonder what these two will get up to next year.
