Air Force 1s, Lip Masks, and a ‘Mature, Sexy, Mysterious’ Perfume: What Parris Goebel Is Buying Right Now

Parris Goebel, also known as PARRI$, has choreographed Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl halftime performance, Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty fashion show, and worked with everyone from Justin Bieber to Ciara. But today, she’s hit a career milestone that every athlete, no matter their sport, aspires to: a partnership with Nike. (Get that money, Parris!)

The award-winning choreographer, dancer and artist, who was born in New Zealand, will be the face of Nike’s “Own the Floor,” a celebration of dance that will culminate in a call-to-action for dance communities around the world to share their movement from November 19 onward.

For Goebel, celebrating dance as a sport, full stop, through a platform as big as Nike’s is a dream come true. “It’s an opportunity to change the narrative of dance and how dance is viewed not only in the world, but specifically in the entertainment industry,” she tells me over Zoom. “I’ve firsthand felt the challenges that us dancers face, and the lack of respect that we get as athletes. With our collaboration, I truly believe we’re going to make change and show that dancers are athletes and we do more than train our bodies. We express our hearts, our souls, and we share our stories. I have been able to open the doors so that people will have a better understanding of what it takes to be a professional dancer.”

It’s an exciting time for Goebel—a perfect moment to check in with her for our latest installment of Your Fave’s Faves. From her go-to workout gear to the serums she “swears and dies by,” here are all the things Parris Goebel is loving right now.

My favorite workout gear

When I’m rehearsing, I love a Nike men’s sweat pant. I like mine baggy, so I usually wear a men’s fit. My favorite sports bra is the Nike Dry-FIT Indy. I love it because it’s supportive but still lets me have a little cleavage, you know? And then, obviously, my favorite sneakers are the Air Force 1. Those are classics, and I’ve always trained in them since I was a little girl. I like classic white because it goes with everything. When I’m getting ready for rehearsal, I’m usually in a rush, so I just like to throw them on.

The last thing I bought

A Prince poster! Prince is one of my favorite artists, and I’ve been trying to hunt down a poster of him for a long time because I want to frame it and put it in my room. I finally just found one.

The fragrance I can’t leave the house without

YSL Black Opium. Everyone knows I drench myself in perfume, and I also always have a mini one on the go. I always have one in my bag, one in the car, one by my door, and one in my bathroom. I love engaging in all our senses. If someone like looks good and smells good, it’s an experience, right? People experience each other, and how you smell is a part of that experience. So I literally cannot leave the house without wearing perfume. I think this scent in particular just has such a mature, sexy, mysterious smell to it. I love it.

My go-to deoderant

You can’t go wrong with Dove, and I’ve always used it since I was young. Also, there are different brands in New Zealand than the United States, and Dove’s kind of like the only brand that I use back home that I can find here. So, it just feels familiar too.

The beauty products I’m loving right now

The Laneige Lip Mask is like crack. I’m wearing it now, and it looks like a gloss but it also moisturizes your lip.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

For skincare, I constantly switch my face washes and stuff depending on the season. Right now, I’m using a lot of Drunk Elephant. There’s a jelly cleanser that I use, but I’m a serum girl. There’s an Ole Henriksen Vitamin C Serum that I swear and die by. I use that every night. I think it’s amazing. I’m a sleeping serum girl. I just want to wake up in the morning and feel like I’m the juiciest, plumpest baby.

My nighttime routine

I’m a candle girl. I always need candles in my room. And I usually sleep with a heat pad. With dance, our backs are always really sore so the heating pad is nice to sleep on because it keeps my back loose. It helps me relax. And then I usually put on meditation music to help me fall asleep.

What’s on my playlist

My playlist probably would be so surprising because I don’t really listen to hip hop when I’m not dancing. I usually listen to jazz. I would say my favorite jazz artist right now that I’ve been diving into is Oscar Peterson. He’s very old school, but that’s kind of where I’m at right now. It’s just a lot of jazz, a lot of blues, a lot of soul. Maybe that’s a reflection of the weather as well.

The best app on my phone

My favorite app right now is called I am. I love it because it sends you reminders, maybe six times a day, of affirmations. It’ll just pop up a message like, “I am beautiful. I am worth it. I’m strong.” It’s nice because obviously you’ll receive messages all day from people, but it’s beautiful to check your phone and there’s this anonymous message of something inspiring.

What’s on my shopping wish list

If I’m going to go out and shop today, I’d love to get a pair of vintage Chanel glasses. I just saw some and I’m jealous they’re not mine. Also, I’d buy a bouquet of flowers from the shop around the corner that I always get. I would also love to get some new makeup. I just always be spending my money on makeup for no reason. You can even have too many lip liners. Lip liners and lip gloss. I just feel like I’m constantly losing them, so I need them as many as possible in every area of my house.
