Isla Fisher Gave a Rare Interview About Her Family Life With Sacha Baron Cohen

Isla Fisher doesn’t talk about her kids much–and it’s out of love and protection. The movie star and wife of Sacha Baron Cohen says protecting their three children is a huge priority, and she doesn’t want them to face any added pressure or attention because of their famous parents.

“Motherhood is actually my favorite topic–but I keep it private,” she revealed to Marie Claire Australia in an upcoming issue. Though born in Scotland, Fisher was raised in Australia and recently moved back. It’s in Australia that she and Cohen are raising their kids to be as regular as possible. “I think all parents are trying to protect their kids, especially in the social media age. I want our children to have a normal childhood–being able to play outside without pressure or scrutiny. All kids have the right to just be kids, and I would never sell a film or magazine by speaking about [mine],” she said. (Fisher and Cohen share son Montgomery Moses Brian, 6, and daughters Elula, 10, and Olive, 13, per People.)

This is a fair and valid position. Talking about your kids to boost your brand isn’t just tacky–it’s potentially damaging to the children. Three cheers for Fisher’s levelheaded take.

The very private couple rarely talk about their home life, but Isla Fisher did offer up one tidbit about what it’s like to live with Borat, telling Jimmy Kimmel, “Luckily, he doesn’t really tell me when he’s going to do super dangerous stuff until he’s done it. It’s not a normal question of ‘Did you pick up the dry cleaning?’ or ‘What did you shoot today?’ It’s like he’ll say, ‘Yeah, we went to a gun rally,’ or ‘I was almost arrested.’ I don’t really have to worry about it, but I do like to be involved. I watch all the cuts of the movie.”
