We all know Tom Holland has been manifesting a cameo on Euphoria for quite some time now, but here’s a plot twist: Could it have already happened? All signs point to…maybe? Two recent events are making fans think Tom might have already made his debut within the Euphoria universe: a viral TikTok and a quick remark from Tom himself.

If you’ve been on TikTok the last few days, you’ve probably come across @itsolivia’s new video showing what looks like Tom’s silhouette in one of the series’ most recent scenes from Lexi’s play. “WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS !?!” the user captioned the post, which has since accumulated over 2.4 million views.

Tom is pretty recognizable in the video, but, as the first commenter duly notes, this Tom spotting appears to be a very obvious edit. “I think it’s def fake,” @itsolivia concedes in the comments—which brings us to hint number two.

By now, we know Tom visited the set of Euphoria a bunch of times while season two was being filmed and fans even claimed to spot him in a behind-the-scenes photo. We also know he really wants to have a cameo, an idea Zendaya and many of her cast members are fully on board with. Well, in his second Puppy Interview with Buzzfeed, uploaded on February 22, Tom might have hinted that the cameo has already happened.

When asked about what TV show, past or present, he’d love to guest star on, Tom did not hesitate to select the HBO hit series. “I would be in Euphoria. I think I’d be a really good Maddy. I’m a big Euphoria fan. I love the show and I love season two. I visited a lot while they were shooting it and I really, really enjoyed it,” the star says while caressing an adorable puppy. “I would love to guest star or just be an extra in it. Or maybe I am and you just don’t know.”

Is Tom trying to tell us something here? BRB—please excuse us while we rewatch season two from the beginning and examine every single extra ahead of the finale on Sunday.

A Salute to D.W. of ‘Arthur’: Little Sister, Major Icon https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/a-salute-to-d-w-of-arthur-little-sister-major-icon.html Wed, 23 Feb 2022 16:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/a-salute-to-d-w-of-arthur-little-sister-major-icon.html [ad_1]

Let us now praise Arthur character D.W.: dreamer, schemer, roast master general in a four-year-old aardvark’s body. After 25 years, the classic PBS kids show Arthur aired its final episode this week. And in more than 250 episodes, little-sister character Dora Winifred Read was a blissfully unwholesome role model: smart, funny, and unlikable.

Content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Our illiterate queen! Lover of unicorns, hater of spinach; a true original in a world of basics. D.W. rocked e-girl short bangs before e-girls existed. She humbled men, sweet-talked parents, and knew her rights. Arthur creator Marc Brown had three sisters, and he has said that he based D.W. on all three of them, making her “triply lethal.” This comes across—D.W.’s great charm is that she gives off main character energy while literally not being the main character. In the early Arthur era, ’90s girls were used to stories in which women played smart, complex supporting characters—Hermione, Amidala, Helga, Lisa Simpson. As an Arthur character, D.W. was a variation of this proud tradition. First, she never, ever accepted a role as the sidekick. And second, she was apologetically annoying.

Twitter content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

That famous meme of Arthur’s balled-up fist? He is about to punch D.W. A distant cousin of Junie B. Jones and Pippie Longstocking, D.W. is never passive, or quiet, or accommodating, or even polite. She is a sore loser and a frequent liar. She talks constantly and takes up space. She is not a nice little girl—it is more accurate to say that she has the skills to rile up a mob into violence. There has been meaningful pushback in the past few years against labeling smart little girls as “bossy.” It’s an important cultural change, but D.W. really is bossy. “When D.W. really, really wants something, there’s no telling what she’ll do to get it,” Arthur says. She has the combined energy of a maiden aunt, a screaming newborn, and a high school debate champion. She throws out casually devastating insults. (Arthur’s head looks like “a football with glasses.”) Under her reign, PBS could have stood for Pretty Brutal Sass.

Twitter content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

While Arthur and other characters tended to be sweetly relatable, D.W. delivered well-crafted jokes with impeccable timing. Arthur is a classic Harry Potter–type, Francine’s a Hermione, Buster is a Ron-Neville, and Muffy is Malfoy. D.W. stands apart—she is not heroic, or malevolent, or a follower. She is just a highly verbal four-year-old who is prone to gently encouraging her parents to disown or abandon her brother. D.W. has a stellar imagination—she creates an imaginary friend named Nadine Flumberghast. She experiences theft of snowball via alien. She is not afraid to self-perform dental surgery in the hopes of rinsing the tooth fairy for cash. She occasionally resorts to blackmail. She gets cast as a tree in her school play, but she rallies. She is a patron of libraries (though she cannot, in fact, read.)

Through Arthur‘s quarter-century run, the character of D.W. was voiced by eight actors. All of them were boys. On a podcast in 2021, Debra Toffan, a casting director for Arthur, explained the decision: “D.W. is a rough-and-tumble little girl,” she said. “She’s a little brat.” When little girls auditioned for the show, they were “just too sweet.” It seems like there’s something there about how early girls can be coded as “little brats” for having characteristics that are more acceptable in boys. D.W. would probably see the injustice in that. She would either respond with a devastating zinger, or by playing “Crazy Bus” 532 times in one week.

The word icon is overused, but it fits D.W. like a pair of Mary Janes. Happy trails, D.W. Read. May you ride your trusty tricycle in our hearts, forever.

In Defense of ‘Inventing Anna’ https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/in-defense-of-inventing-anna.html Tue, 22 Feb 2022 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/in-defense-of-inventing-anna.html [ad_1]

I don’t claim to be some Nostradamus of the zeitgeist—able to immediately discern what will and will not amuse America—but I am relatively clued in to pop culture, and I write about this stuff for a living. So when I finished bingeing Inventing Anna, the Netflix-Shondaland limited series based on the viral New York magazine article about con woman Anna “Delvey” Sorokin, I thought, That was fun. I’m sure other people will feel the same, because I understand such things.

After all, Hustlers, the 2019 movie based on another New York magazine feature (written by Jessica Pressler, who also covered Delvey) had been a critical hit. And scammers like Elizabeth Holmes, Billy McFarland (the Fyre Fest guy, who is a minor character in the show), and the Operation Varsity Blues parents were all hot topics. I assumed Inventing Anna would find the same audience that devoured Gossip Girl and made Shonda Rhimes’s Scandal a hit. It was Succession, but trashy. Who wouldn’t like that?

Turns out, a lot more than expected. Though the series hit the top of the Netflix charts, critical reception and the reaction online has been mixed at best. (It currently has an audience score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.) Reading the reviews only made me more confused. Everything I found fun, others found ridiculous. The choices that amused me rankled my peers. Maybe I’m wrong, or maybe it’s a matter of preference. But maybe the show, based on a story people had so many feelings about, wasn’t given a fair shake. In the interest of healthy debate, I present my rebuttal.

Let’s start with Anna and the actor who plays her, Julia Garner. According to one reviewer, “Garner’s character choices…all the inconsistency and evasiveness, with that awful accent…might make some feel cheated, or even like she botched the role.” Though the piece actually praises her performance, it still says she’s seemingly miscast. This is echoed in other outlets, with the general consensus being that Garner is a good actor because of Ozark but disappointing here because the accent is annoying and we never find out what makes Anna tick.

Here’s a theory: Anna is semidelusional and a compulsive liar. She has a weird-ass accent. Garner plays this to perfection. When she bursts into tears, it’s bizarre because Anna is bizarre. As for what makes a con artist a con artist, that question is explored by Vivian, who I will get to in a second. And the answer is: You can never really know another person if they won’t let you. It’s called Inventing Anna because Anna is her own creation, both Dr. Frankenstein and the monster. A frustrating, compelling, enigmatic central character whose motives are never adequately explained…is allowed. And this show does it well.

What to Watch This Week: ‘This Is Us’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Returns https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/what-to-watch-this-week-this-is-us-and-greys-anatomy-returns.html Sun, 20 Feb 2022 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/what-to-watch-this-week-this-is-us-and-greys-anatomy-returns.html [ad_1]

Watch this: Now that the Winter Olympics are over, the rest of the broadcast networks return with new episodes for fan favorites like This Is Us, Young Sheldon, Grey’s Anatomy, and more. Meanwhile, over in the streaming space, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel drops episodes three and four, while Netflix unveils their big budget historical drama, Vikings: Valhalla.

But if you have yet to catch up on Inventing Anna, now is your time to do it. Because believe it or not, we’re in a bit of a quiet period before plenty of new releases in March. And if you already have, check out what the Anna cast had to say about meeting their-real counterparts here

With that said, here’s everything to watch the week of February 20, and I’ll see you back here next Sunday when awards season officially kicks off with the Screen Actors Guild Awards on TBS and TNT.

Monday, February 21

The Bachelor (ABC): Just when the drama with Shanae is over (well, at least until Women Tell All), now we have Mara vs. Sarah, which is just annoying. Yes, Sarah is young, but Mara needs to stay in her own lane. Also, word of advice to Mara: 32 is young, too. Stop acting like you’ve passed your expiration date. And what is with half the women pronouncing Clayton’s name Clay-TON like it’s two separate words? It’s been driving me nuts all season. Regardless, I have no reason to be this invested, and yet here I am. 8/7 p.m. C.T. and streaming the next day on Hulu

The Endgame (NBC): If you’re already mourning the loss of Killing Eve when it wraps up its run later this spring, then give The Endgame a shot. The heist drama features a similar cat and mouse game between Elena Federova (Gotham‘s Morena Baccarin), a recently captured international arms dealer and criminal mastermind, and Val Turner (First Wives Club‘s Ryan Michelle Bathé), an FBI agent who will stop at nothing to trap Federova. Also, why do TV villains get the coolest names (Villanelle, Federova—just saying)? 10/9 p.m. C.T.

Tuesday, February 22

This Is Us (NBC): As of tonight, we are a third of our way through the final season, and it’s just another reminder to savor each episode. “Our Little Island Girl: Part Two” focuses on Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) as she prepares her students for their first big dance recital and confronts a familiar face from her past. Kevin and Kate also have a very powerful storyline, in what is a terrific episode penned by Kelechi Watson and writer Eboni Freeman. 9/8 p.m. C.T. and streaming on Hulu the next day

Watch Viola Davis Become Michelle Obama in the First Trailer for ‘The First Lady’ https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/watch-viola-davis-become-michelle-obama-in-the-first-trailer-for-the-first-lady.html Thu, 17 Feb 2022 21:29:22 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/watch-viola-davis-become-michelle-obama-in-the-first-trailer-for-the-first-lady.html [ad_1]

Oscar-winning actor Viola Davis is Michelle Obama in the upcoming Showtime series The First Lady.

The 10-episode anthology series follows Michelle Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Betty Ford as they navigate life in the White House and the spotlight. In addition to Davis, who is also an executive producer on the series, The First Lady stars Gillian Anderson and Michelle Pfeiffer as the women of The White House. As for the Obamas, O-T Fagbenle plays Barack Obama, while Saniyya Sidney and Lexi Underwood will be taking on the roles of the former first daughters Sasha and Malia.

Honestly, we’re already getting chills. At one point in the trailer, Davis completely embodies the former first lady while having an intimate conversation with her husband. She says, “In four years I don’t want to look back and think, ‘What did I become living in that house?’”

She later declares, “I will choose my team, pick my causes. “Understood?”

You can get your first look at Viola Davis’ transformative performance in the trailer below:

Kiefer Sutherland and Christopher Plummer take on the role of FDR while Sara Delano is portrayed by Ellen Burstyn. Meanwhile, Gerald and Susan Elizabeth Ford come to life through Aaron Eckhart and Dakota Fanning, respectively.

Per Showtime, The First Lady “is a revelatory reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House. In the government’s East Wing, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic First Ladies. The series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of three unique, enigmatic women and their families, tracing their journeys to Washington, dipping into their pasts, and following them past the White House into their greatest moments. Through interweaving storylines so intimate it’s as if the White House walls are talking, Season One focuses on the enlightening lives of Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt.”

‘Stranger Things’ Will End With Season Five https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/stranger-things-will-end-with-season-five.html Thu, 17 Feb 2022 17:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/stranger-things-will-end-with-season-five.html [ad_1]

Stranger Things has been renewed for a fifth—and final—season. In the summer of 2016, out of seemingly nowhere, everyone was talking about Netflix’s 1980s-set sci-fi series Stranger Things. Fast-forward a few months later and it was a pop culture phenomenon: Everyone watched it, it seemed like three out of five people at every Halloween party was dressed up as a Stranger Things character, and we’ll never look at Eggo waffles the same! Now, years later, Netflix has announced that the phenomenon will end with the show’s fifth season.

Netflix announced the end of the series along with poster reveals for season four of Stranger Things. Season four will be released in two parts, with part one dropping on Netflix on May 27. Part two will drop on July 1. I don’t know why they’re making us wait to see more of Steve’s hair, but at least it isn’t that long of a wait. And we’ve had to learn to be patient: The third season of Stranger Things was released on Netflix over two and a half years ago, in July 2019. (The fourth season experienced delays due to complications as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.)

In an open letter to fans shared with the press, Stranger Things cocreators Matt and Ross Duffer said the total run time of Stranger Things season four is very long, which is why it’s been split into two parts. “With nine scripts, over 800 pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a run time nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet but also the most rewarding one,” they wrote.

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” they added. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but—as you’ll see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale.”

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more details about Stranger Things season five.

‘The Last of Us’: Everything We Know About the Game’s Upcoming TV Adaptation https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-last-of-us-everything-we-know-about-the-games-upcoming-tv-adaptation.html Tue, 15 Feb 2022 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-last-of-us-everything-we-know-about-the-games-upcoming-tv-adaptation.html [ad_1]

The Last of Us, a video game that practically held even nongamers in a chokehold during quarantine after part two dropped in 2020, is getting the HBO treatment.

The original PlayStation game, which debuted in 2013, follows Joel—or well, I guess it’s more accurate to say that users control Joel—a smuggler escorting a teenage girl named Ellie across a zombie-infested, postapocalyptic United States. Ellie has been infected with the disease that wiped out civilization but shows no symptoms and believes that her immunity may lead to a cure. Along the way, friends and allies help the pair, often losing their own life in the process. Joel and Ellie develop a deep bond; at the outset of the infection, Joel lost his daughter, and he takes protecting Ellie very seriously.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

The game debuted to major acclaim and popularity, as did its sequel. HBO greenlighted a television adaptation in November 2020. The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal will take on the role of Joel, while Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont on Game of Thrones) plays Ellie. You can see a picture of them in character here; although, don’t get too excited, because it’s from behind.

Here’s everything we know about The Last of Us.

The first season will be based on the first game. There have been expansion packs and, of course, the sequel, but The Hollywood Reporter notes that incorporating these storylines is just a “possibility” at this point.

It’s going to be dark. The writer and creator of the game, Neil Druckmann, will be involved with the writing of the series, per THR, and he’s teaming up with Craig Mazin, who made Chernobyl for HBO. So, yeah, pretty serious stuff. ICYMI, Chernobyl was also a kind of apocalypse story, a harrowing dramatization of the real-life disaster at a nuclear facility in the Soviet Union in 1986.

‘The Gilded Age’ Has Been Renewed for Season Two on HBO https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-gilded-age-has-been-renewed-for-season-two-on-hbo.html Mon, 14 Feb 2022 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-gilded-age-has-been-renewed-for-season-two-on-hbo.html [ad_1]

Back to the 19th century we go! HBO has renewed prestige period drama The Gilded Age, from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, for a second season.

On February 14, 2022, HBO announced the renewal, which is currently in the midst of airing its nine-episode first season. The series stars veteran actors Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, and Carrie Coon, as well as breakout newcomers Louisa Jacobson and Denée Benton.

“Julian Fellowes and the entire Gilded Age family have captivated us with their tale of late 19th century New York City extravagance,” executive vice president of HBO programming, Francesca Orsi, said in a statement. “Along with our partners at Universal Television, we couldn’t be prouder to embark on a season two journey with this extraordinarily talented team.”

Here’s everything we know, and we’ll continue to update this post as more information becomes available.

Louisa Jacobson and Denée Benton in episode one of The Gilded Age.

Alison Cohen Rosa

What is The Gilded Age about?

Per HBO, “The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, of great conflict between the old ways and brand new systems, and of huge fortunes made and lost. Against the backdrop of this transformation, HBO’s The Gilded Age begins in 1882 with young Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) moving from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after the death of her father to live with her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon). Accompanied by Peggy Scott (Denée Benton), an aspiring writer seeking a fresh start, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon). Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?”

When will season two begin filming?

Production will most likely begin later this year, though no exact date has been given. And given the expansive nature of the series, a 2023 premiere date seems likely.

Which cast members will be returning?

No official announcement has been made, but it’s a safe bet that series regulars Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton, Taissa Farmiga, Blake Ritson, Simon Jones, Harry Richardson, Thomas Cocquerel, Jack Gilpin, Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski will return. By the way, did you catch this Gossip Girl fan favorite in the series?

Inventing Anna’s Chris Lowell Shares His Behind-the-Scenes Photos From the Morocco Trip https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/inventing-annas-chris-lowell-shares-his-behind-the-scenes-photos-from-the-morocco-trip.html Mon, 14 Feb 2022 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/inventing-annas-chris-lowell-shares-his-behind-the-scenes-photos-from-the-morocco-trip.html [ad_1]

Julia, Laverne, and Katie were saying how wild it is to be at the location where Anna stayed—kind of the culmination of when her story began to really crumble. What is it like for you?

Well, it’s so funny because so much of Anna’s approach to everything is that classic cool kid move to act like none of it is that impressive. That there’s always somewhere cooler you’ve stayed, or a party that’s better that you could be at. Throughout their time here, so many of Anna’s lines are about how this place is okay, but her [foundation] that she’s going to create in New York will be so much better. And actually being here in this insanely indisputably gorgeous place and thinking of someone coming here and badmouthing it in any capacity is so hysterical to me. It’s actually become a problem because every time Julia delivers one of these lines about how blasé this place is, I can’t stop laughing. It’s the most gorgeous hotel I’ve ever stayed in, you know? Being here kind of does all the work for you because all I do is walk around doe-eyed.

Going back to Julia’s meeting with Anna, what did she tell you?

I’m by no means a professional at diagnosing someone, but it seems like just classic textbook sociopathic behavior [from Anna]. I mean, I don’t think she feels regret for having done what she did.

Right. Which she admitted in interviews.

Who knows if she’s trying to put up a tough face. She’s been in jail now for a considerable amount of time. And for there to still be that…indifference toward all of these people whose confidence she abused is crazy. She doesn’t seem to really be affected by being in jail.

Have you encountered people like this, whether it’s going to events or just being in the industry?

One of the skills you develop as an actor is learning how to read a room—how to read people. I often will zero in on people’s idiosyncratic behaviors that reveal so much about people. There are definitely times where I’ve been at events and parties where you will see someone in the room who you can watch identifying the most important people in the room, looking for weaknesses, looking for strengths, looking for ways to ingratiate themselves into the company of someone that they want to talk to or get something from. It’s scary to see but also very impressive. It’s a skill I certainly don’t have.

As a photographer, you really do have an eye though for picking up things that a lot of people may not be aware of.

Yes. When I’m taking pictures, I always sort of wait for someone’s guard to come down. There are certain people who do not let it down because they’re playing a different game. You can tell. I feel like when you meet certain people, you can just sort of see the mask, you know?

It’s also great to be able to photograph the cast here because they’re all gorgeous. Photographing Julia is so complicated because she looks so much the part and she takes on the affectations that she’s chosen for Anna. So she’s constantly hiding behind her hair. Instead of photographing Julia, I feel like I’m really photographing Anna, which is interesting. It’s been a real experience.

‘Euphoria’ Star Barbie Ferreira Just Addressed WTF Is Going on With Kat in Season 2 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/euphoria-star-barbie-ferreira-just-addressed-wtf-is-going-on-with-kat-in-season-2.html Mon, 14 Feb 2022 20:08:18 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/euphoria-star-barbie-ferreira-just-addressed-wtf-is-going-on-with-kat-in-season-2.html [ad_1]

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the second season of HBO’s hit teen drama Euphoria. The latest episode, “A Thousand Little Trees of Blood,” is currently available to stream on HBO Max.

Does Euphoria have as much drama off-screen as it does on? Probably not, but it’s not exactly a low-key workplace, according to rumors that have been circulating over the past few months. Earlier this year, blind items on DeuMoix suggested that Barbie Ferreira, who plays Kat Hernandez on the show, was not “vibing” with creator Sam Levinson’s vision for the second season, even walking off the set at one point during an argument. Viewers soon noticed that Kat, who had been featured prominently in the first season, had far fewer scenes in the new episodes, with many guessing that this was a form of retaliation by Levinson. Ferreira notably didn’t attend the second-season premiere, which only fueled speculation.

Now, we have confirmation that Kat’s arc is not what was originally planned—because a lot has changed for every character. In a joint interview with The Cut, star and executive producer Zendaya revealed that the original scripts were significantly reworked. “There are very few things that remain in the version you’re now seeing,” she said. “The things that didn’t make it definitely needed to die.” (Alexa Demie also revealed a change in the script regarding that sex tape.)

In the same interview, Ferreira explained why Kat’s behavior may strike fans as confusing. “Kat’s journey this season is a little more internal and a little mysterious to the audience,” Ferreira said. “She is secretly going through a lot of existential crises.”

In the most recent episode, for instance, she told her boyfriend that they had to break up because she had a terminal brain disease, seemingly a lie that came out of nowhere. “She loses her marbles a little bit — just like everyone else in this season,” Ferriera continued. “The theme is everyone’s gone a little crazy.”

Though Ferriera did not comment on the behind-the-scenes rumors, Kat’s actions in episode six did not seem to convince fans that everything is copacetic behind the scenes… Hopefully, in the final two episodes, Kat’s storyline will come together and give us more scenes with Ferreira to obsess over.
