10 Guided Sleep Meditations to Cozy Up With Tonight https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/10-guided-sleep-meditations-to-cozy-up-with-tonight.html Fri, 07 Jan 2022 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/10-guided-sleep-meditations-to-cozy-up-with-tonight.html [ad_1]

The best guided sleep meditation audio will help relax your mind and body and facilitate a faster onset and duration of sleep. Sounds good, no? Worries and fears always seem to creep into our minds in a major way right as we settle into bed. But if you’re tired of waking up with anxiety, there is something you can do to combat that.

“Any meditation that is focused on sleep will generally be helpful,” says Abhinav Singh, M.D., and the medical director of the Indiana Sleep Center. Although, the doctor adds, “not trying too hard is the key.”

It’s cause and effect, simply put. According to Dr. Singh, most guided sleep meditation promotes relaxation, which in turn helps anchor a busy mind: “Anytime you can achieve this, you will be in a better position for allowing sleep to come to you.”

There are a lot of different sleep apps out there, but guided meditation for anxiety is a unique—and incredibly low-lift—way to try and get a better night’s rest. So how do you choose the best guided sleep meditation for you without, as Singh says, trying too hard?

Here are 10 of the most recommended, highly rated, and accessible ones. Relaxation meditation apps can be helpful for a variety of things, but the ones below will be especially useful around bedtime. Sweet dreams.

Mindful

The recommendation for mindful.org comes from Tamara Teragawa, registered yoga teacher and lead yoga teacher for Xponential+. Before bed, she’s a fan of self-guided mindfulness meditation and short body-scan meditation (a practice that brings attention to your whole body as a way to focus the mind). She finds both on the site, but here is a free example of a night meditation created for sleep specifically.

“Good sleep is just as important as eating healthy and exercising regularly to achieve optimal health,” Teragawa explains. “When your body tells you it needs rest, slow down and make a solid sleep routine priority, and notice how much better you feel and perform in other areas of your life.”

In addition to the bedtime meditation, she recommends also exercising, getting into a bedtime routine, and avoiding your phone and television before you hit the hay.

Headspace

Teragawa also recommends Headspace for deep sleep guided meditation. There’s a 12-minute one you can sample here.

“These types of meditations can be a short, three- to five-minute routine or stretch out to 45 minutes or longer, depending on what you are looking for,” she says. “They allow you to slow down, connect to your breath and body, and recognize what you need to truly help relax.”

A free trial for Headspace lasts two weeks if you select the annual membership for $69.99. A monthly membership, which comes with a seven-day trial, costs $12.99 each month.

Calm

Calm is a free-to-download app that offers a free weeklong trial membership and then costs $69.99 a year or $14.99 a month. (There are also lifetime memberships available for a onetime fee of $399.99.)

Camila Cabello Just Revealed the ‘Terrifying’ Thing Shawn Mendes Does in His Sleep https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/camila-cabello-just-revealed-the-terrifying-thing-shawn-mendes-does-in-his-sleep.html Tue, 31 Aug 2021 17:36:27 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/camila-cabello-just-revealed-the-terrifying-thing-shawn-mendes-does-in-his-sleep.html [ad_1]

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are known for their PDA, intimacy, and generally being celebrity couple goals. But they’re still human, and apparently Mendes has some strange bedtime habits.

Since the initial COVID-19 outbreak, Cabello’s been spending a lot of nights in Miami with Mendes and their new puppy. And during this time, she’s learned something new about her boyfriend: He sleep talks.

Apparently, when Cabello and Mendes turn in for the night, she stays up on her iPad, and he’s out like a light in five minutes. It isn’t long before he starts saying random things in his sleep.

“I would be reading or something, and he would just start sleep-talking, and it would scare the shit out of me,” Cabello said during an August appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden. “He’d just be like, ‘Babe! That…feels…so…good,’ and then he’d go back to sleep. That is the first thing he ever said while sleep-talking. I was like, ‘Thank you? I’m not really doing anything right now.’”

Mendes has always talked in his sleep, Cabello says, but the extra time together has made the habit extra scary.

“Can you imagine somebody opening their eyes, looking at you, but you know they’re asleep?” the “Havana” singer said. “Can you imagine the terror of that? I would just be so scared. It’s terrifying.” Yup, agreed.

Speaking of sleep: Cabello told Glamour that her bedtime essentials are a white noise machine, an essential oil diffuser, and the Great British Baking Show. She also listens to podcasts. “When I can’t sleep, I will put on a cooking podcast called Home Cooking,” she told us. “Something neutral that engages me but also doesn’t make me emotional, so I can get tired again and go back to sleep if I want to. There’s also Poetry Unbound, which reads a poem and dissects it. The host is incredible.”

How Paris Hilton Sleeps at Night https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/how-paris-hilton-sleeps-at-night.html Wed, 14 Jul 2021 21:39:25 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/how-paris-hilton-sleeps-at-night.html [ad_1]

Prior to the pandemic, Paris Hilton was traveling 250 days a year. But the upside to all that time on the road as a DJ and entrepreneur? She’s a bonafide sleep pro. “I can sleep anywhere: planes, trains, wherever. I always bring a bag with me that has three pillows, my blanket, earplugs, eye mask—I have my whole bag of sleeping accessories,” she says.

Sleep hasn’t always been easy for Hilton. “I used to have severe nightmares since I was teenager and severe insomnia basically my whole life. But now in the past year since I released my documentary This is Paris and talked about [my trauma], I no longer have nightmares,” she says. “When you hold any trauma in, it will affect you. As soon as I spoke about it, I felt like I had released it. Using my platform and my voice to stop it from happening to other children, it’s been very healing and that’s been amazing for my sleep.”

These days, sleep is a huge priority. “In order to give my best in everything I do, sleep is one of the most important parts of my routine,” Hilton says. To wind down at the end of a long day, Hilton and her fiancé Carter Reum have a Netflix routine. “We are watching this new show that we just found called Manifest, which we love. I also watch The Simple Life. It’s so funny,” Hilton says. “Carter thinks it’s hilarious. He doesn’t really watch reality TV, he runs a venture capital fund and is a very serious businessperson, so it’s funny to watch him watching it.”

We chatted with Hilton about the products that have helped transform her sleepless nights into relaxing evenings and the steps she’s taking to wake up well rested.

My nighttime routine

I take baths every morning and every night before I go to bed. I love having lavender bath salts or something like that to make me feel relaxed. When I get out of the bath, I do my whole skincare routine. I love U Beauty. Their Super Hydrator is amazing. I use that every single night and morning. I love using these eye masks from ToGoSpa and by 111SKIN. Barbara Sturm, I love her Eye Cream and Hyaluronic Serum. I also use Sunday Riley’s LUNA Sleeping night oil and C.E.O. Brightening Serum.

Dr. Barbara Sturm Eye Cream

Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum

Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Night Oil

Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum

My skincare secret weapon

I have this LightStim Pro Panel. After I have all of my products on or a facemask, I lie under the light while I’m getting ready to go to bed. I really believe in light therapy. It has a lot of amazing positive effects for your skin and helps with building collagen and keeping your skin glowing and beautiful.

The supplement that helps me sleep

One product that’s been a game changer for me, with sleeping, with stress, with everything, is R3set Unwind. I take it at night and it helps me relax and prepares my body for sleep. When I get up in the morning, I take R3set Calm and that keeps me focused. I’m obsessed.

My favorite pajamas

I have some really cute pajamas that my friend from Dolls Kill gave me with Care Bears and Hello Kitty. So when I want to be cute, I’ll wear that. And if I want to be comfortable, I wear silk pajamas or I have this big comfy fluffy robe by this brand called Wrapped in a Cloud that I have in like every color because it’s my favorite.

I can’t sleep unless I have an eye mask

I collect them actually because there are so many funny ones that say cute things. There’s one that says, “the bags under my eyes are Chanel” that I’ve been using lately.

How I make my room relaxing

I run a fan when I’m sleeping. Ever since I was little, my mom always had a fan in our rooms when we would travel or even at home so it would make a soft noise and blow cold air on me. I found this app called Sleep Fan, which mimics a fan noise.

My latest sleep tech

During the pandemic, I started working with a sleep doctor, Dr. Michael Breus, to learn more about normalizing my sleep. I’ve been paying attention to how well I’ve been sleeping by using the Oura Ring. I love how you can kind of gamify sleeping—every morning you wake up and go on the app and you see how much sleep you got, how much of it was REM, when you woke up in the middle of the night, etc.

Another thing that’s been a game changer for me this past year is this COVE device. It’s neuroscience technology that applies a gentle vibration behind your ears—basically it activates the part of the brain that reduces anxiety and stress. It makes you feel calm and I sleep so much better.

What’s on my nightstand

I keep everything on it that I use to go to sleep. I have a Louis Vuitton journal where I write everything that I need to do. I use the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray—I love spraying lavender on my pillows. I also sometimes burn a Pure Love candle by CHIJI.

Pure Love Crystal Energy Candle

I sleep better at night knowing…

That I am so loved and feel safe by the most loyal and incredible man I’ve ever met in my life.

How Camila Cabello Sleeps At Night https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/how-camila-cabello-sleeps-at-night.html Wed, 23 Jun 2021 20:03:33 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/how-camila-cabello-sleeps-at-night.html [ad_1]

Mental wellness and getting a good night’s sleep are inextricably intertwined. That’s the philosophy of Camila Cabello, the chart topping, platinum recording artist set to star in a new adaptation of Cinderella out later this year. “Circadian rhythm is a real thing,” she says. “I try to not go to sleep after 10:30. When I go to sleep later than midnight, I tend to get worse quality sleep, even if I sleep the same amount.”

But unwinding after a long day, especially with an inconsistent schedule, is easier said than done. That’s when Cabello turns to Calm, the meditation app she’s partnered with to release her first original audio series called “Breathe Into It.” Over 13 sessions, Cabello dives into her own journey with mental wellness and the importance of mindfulness in her sleep routine. (When she can’t sleep, her go-to is Tamara Levitt’s guided meditation on the Calm app.)

Podcasts actually play a big role in Cabello’s sleep routine. “When I can’t sleep, I will put on a cooking podcast called ‘Home Cooking’—something neutral that engages me but also doesn’t make me emotional, so I can get tired again and go back to sleep if I want to,” she says. “There’s also ‘Poetry Unbound,’ which reads a poem and dissects it. The host is incredible.”

With her crazy schedule, we asked Cabello for the full breakdown of how she unwinds and gets into a calm headspace before bed.

The night time skincare trick I swear by

An uplifting and depuffing face roller—I put it in my freezer during the day.

I sleep in…

A big t-shirt and some shorts.

What’s currently on my nightstand

My iPad, the books I’m currently reading—Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari and Three Women by Lisa Taddeo—and my hydro flask.

Hydro Flask 32-Ounce Wide-Mouth

“Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari

“Three Women” by Lisa Taddeo

Of all the books I’ve read this year, this one has really stuck with me. Journalist Lisa Taddeo follows three women across the country over the course of a decade for a can’t-put-it-down look at female desire. As one friend put it, it’s the bodice ripper you won’t be embarrassed to read on the subway.

Before bed I…

I watch the “Great British Baking Show” lately before bed.

The bedtime investments that are totally worth it

An essential oil diffuser with oils and a sound machine that plays white noise.

How Venus Williams Sleeps At Night https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/how-venus-williams-sleeps-at-night.html Tue, 18 May 2021 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/how-venus-williams-sleeps-at-night.html [ad_1]

Venus Williams—tennis champion, equal pay advocate, fashion and beauty mogul, and recently acclaimed interior designer—has a lot going on. That’s just the way she likes it. “You know, it’s better than nothing going on,” she says with a laugh. “I have such a crazy schedule but that’s a blessing when you’re doing what you love to do.”

Williams recently added wellness entrepreneur to her list of titles with the launch of self-care brand Asutra, which features a dreamy line of pain relief and sleep support products that dropped at Target stores across the country this spring.

When it comes to sleep, she’s an expert with a nighttime routine she takes seriously. “I think taking some time for yourself at the end of the day is so important. A lot of us are just moving in so many different directions, whether it’s work or family or whatever—hopefully the last part of the day is just a moment for you to breathe,” she says. “I have to have those moments for my own sanity.”

As Williams puts it, “to do what you love well, you gotta sleep.” So we asked her for her favorite products that help her unwind, and how she makes sure she wakes up with the energy of a woman at the top of half a dozen careers.

My favorite sleep aid

I think a lot of people don’t really know the power of magnesium. I actually travel with magnesium drops, I don’t leave home without those. You can also absorb it through your skin and it helps to ease sore muscles but it also supports sleep. So I really love using Asutra’s Melt the Pain Away Body Butter before bed.

The bed requirements I won’t compromise on

The bed is extremely important. I actually have one of those beds that raises up. Serena has one so I had to upgrade my bed for my sister. Bamboo sheets are definitely a must. The mattress protector has to be soft too.

The sleep kit I never leave home without

The Sleep Tight Kit from Asutra has lavender in the eye cover and also a lavender spray that really relaxes. So that’s my favorite—on the road, I always have to bring it. I actually always run out because I’m always giving it away.

What’s currently sitting on my nightstand

Water. Popcorn. My Asutra Mist Your Mood lavender spray, an ankle brace, and my mom got me an Alexa.

The nighttime skincare product I swear by

My rose oil from Asutra. It’s so beautiful, it smells like roses and it’s got little petals in it and it makes your skin glow. I don’t use it just on my face I use it on my whole body. It’s good when you’re wearing something short, which I always am.

We Tried Lunya’s ‘Washable’ Silk Sets—Here Are Our Honest Thoughts https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/we-tried-lunyas-washable-silk-sets-here-are-our-honest-thoughts.html Mon, 19 Apr 2021 18:21:01 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/we-tried-lunyas-washable-silk-sets-here-are-our-honest-thoughts.html [ad_1]

What are your general thoughts? A silver dream! There’s something so inherently special about sleeping in silk as opposed to an oversized tee with avocado stains—and this set is even better IRL than I thought it would be. The material is cool to the touch, and the silk has a brushed sheen to it. Also, the Cloud color is so, so dreamy. I feel totally at ease wearing these PJs—so much so that I could eat an entire bowl of spaghetti and not think twice (which, mind you, is a rarity for clothes I genuinely like).

What is the overall fit like? Is it actually comfy for sleeping, or do you prefer it just for lounging? I have to preface this with the fact that I’m petite and most pajama sets are usually too big on me. (We’re talking too-big waistbands, too-wide tops, and pants that puddle on the floor.) This set, however, is perfectly oversized. The draping is beautiful, and the material really moves with you when you walk. I tucked the T-shirt in for the photo, but for the record, it’s pretty long and could probably pass for a dress on my smaller torso (I’m 5’1″, in case you were wondering). That said, I’m actually *shocked* by how much I love this set for sleeping—way more than I do lounging. (I thought it would be the opposite.) I’m definitely one of those people who runs hot at night, so having full-on leg ventilation while I’m in la-la land is my kind of vibe.

How does the silk really hold up after washing? Did you notice any changes in the fabric or fit? I haven’t had a chance yet to wash it, but I’m not worried. Lunya has helpful care instructions on its website, and I plan to follow them to a T.

Last words? This is the perfect summer set. It’s lightweight and romantic—and while $200 isn’t exactly pocket change for me, if you think about it from a price-per-wear standpoint, it’s definitely worth it if you wear it all. the. time.

What are your general thoughts? I never thought I’d find myself endorsing $258 pajamas, but the second you cocoon yourself in this ridiculously soft, ultra-luxurious silk, you’ll understand why they’re so expensive.

What is the overall fit like? Is it actually comfy for sleeping, or do you prefer it just for lounging? The button-down and pants set is just as comfortable to lounge around the house in as it is to sleep in—and it’s so chic, I’m not embarrassed to go out in the hall or answer the door in them.

17 Low Bed Frames That Deserve a Spot in Your Room—And Your Instagram Grid https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/17-low-bed-frames-that-deserve-a-spot-in-your-room-and-your-instagram-grid.html Mon, 12 Apr 2021 19:46:08 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/17-low-bed-frames-that-deserve-a-spot-in-your-room-and-your-instagram-grid.html [ad_1]

By now you’ve probably noticed the best low platform bed frames taking over Instagram. The minimalist bedroom vibe lends itself to a tastefully undone aesthetic that aspirational nesters have adopted as a “filler post” for their carefully crafted photo grids. The bedding itself is usually tousled like the inanimate version of brunch-ready bed-head, and some influencers are taking it a step further by making a case for a regular old mattress on the floor. That’s right, the furniture faux pas that once sent us running for the hills (or blasting the group chat for an exit strategy) on a date has emerged as an interior design choice that’s worthy of a heart.

As the lines between work, rest, and entertainment spaces became blurred amid quarantine, freshly made beds weren’t always in the cards. If you’ve worked from home over the past year, your bed probably served as, yes, a place to sleep, but also a place to catch up on emails, devour a new Netflix series, or sit with a towel on your head for far longer than you would have in the before times. As we race to get vaccinated and look toward a post-pandemic life, the nests we’ve nurtured are here to stay—and low platform bed frames will continue to deliver an accessible refinement that’s notably photogenic and almost too easy to collapse into.

Arguably the buzziest iteration of all, Floyd’s modular birch bed frame, which anyone shopping for lower frames has likely considered (or at least spotted on Pinterest), launched back in 2015. It stood out thanks to its easy assembly, customizability, and minimalist aesthetic, and these days you can find a long list of frames that offer the same vibe as that innovative piece of furniture. Most modern mattresses no longer require a box spring, so it’s easier than ever to get that low-to-the-ground look, which you can try for yourself with the frames below.

Ahead, shop the best low platform bed frames at every price point, grab a few houseplants, and prepare for immaculate, Instagrammable vibes to come.
