Awards season is here again, even though the last awards season feels like it happened two weeks ago. The latest awards show to release nominations is the 2022 SAG Awards. SAG is the Screen Actors Guild, so these awards cover film and television and are acting-specific, with the nominees and winners chosen by members of SAG. The biggest SAG award (i.e., its equivalent to best picture category) is the ensemble cast award.

This year the SAG Awards, which have not been postponed or virtualized due to the omicron COVID-19 surge (yet), will occur in person on February 27, 2022. The ceremony will air on TNT at 8 p.m. E.T.

Nominees, which were announced on Instagram by Rosario Dawson and Vanessa Hudgens, include House of Gucci, Ted Lasso, Mare of Easttown, The Great, The Lost Daughter, and The Power of the Dog, yet somehow Oscar front-runner Kristen Stewart was not nominated for Spencer. Under-$20 Beauty Products Celebrities Swear By for the Red Carpet https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/under-20-beauty-products-celebrities-swear-by-for-the-red-carpet.html Mon, 05 Apr 2021 21:10:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/under-20-beauty-products-celebrities-swear-by-for-the-red-carpet.html [ad_1]

The red carpet might not seem like the most obvious place to get affordable makeup and beauty product recommendations. As one of Hollywood’s greatest traditions, red-carpet—or amid the pandemic, backyard—photos are when you can expect celebrities to really do it big. After all, we’re talking about awards shows that give away vouchers for $1,900 vampire breast lifts and luxury TP in their gift bags. So it’d be unsurprising if the beauty products too were accessible to only the 1%, right?

While that might be the case for “penis facials,” many of the hair, makeup, and skin-care products glam squads use on the awards circuit are refreshingly affordable. Brands often broker deals with makeup artists and hairstylists to use their newest launches for red-carpet looks. And why not? As the “who are you wearing?” question proves, celebrities on the red carpet are essentially walking billboards, even in the era of at-home awards shows.

Plus, this is good news for the rest of us. We might not be able to drop thousands on a designer gown, but $9 on the same eyeshadow Megan Thee Stallion wore to the Grammys? You bet we want—and can have—that.

Ahead, keep tabs as we track the most affordable makeup and hair finds from this red carpet season. The best part? You can add it all to cart without going over budget.

Chadwick Boseman Was Showered With Love at the 2021 SAG Awards https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/chadwick-boseman-was-showered-with-love-at-the-2021-sag-awards.html Mon, 05 Apr 2021 12:24:08 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/chadwick-boseman-was-showered-with-love-at-the-2021-sag-awards.html [ad_1]

Chadwick Boseman was showered with love at the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which happened Sunday, April 4. The late actor, whose work in Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom has garnered much critical acclaim, was honored by colleagues and loved ones alike several times through the ceremony.

Of course, Boseman was included in the In Memoriam tribute at the virtual SAG Awards, alongside other beloved and dearly departed stars like Naya Rivera, Jessica Walter, Christopher Plummer, and Cicely Tyson

Per People, Boseman is the first person to receive four SAG Award nominations in the same year: for his individual performance and for performance by a cast in both Da 5 Bloods and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

When he won for Ma Rainey, his widow, Simone Ledward Boseman, accepted on his behalf, as she has been doing at every major ceremony this year. Thanking his family, collaborators, and inspirations, Ledward Boseman told viewers, “If you see the world unbalanced, be a crusader that pushes heavily on the seesaw of the mind. That’s a quote by Chadwick Boseman.”

She wasn’t the only one to reference the star in her speech. When his Ma Rainey costar, Viola Davis, won for her work in the film, she thanked her fellow nominees and her castmates, saying,  “I couldn’t have been in better company, thank you so much.” She made sure to single out the “beautiful Chadwick Boseman” by name. (“What can I say? I’m grateful. Thank you @sagawards,” she also wrote on Instagram.)

Daniel Kaluuya too shouted out the late actor. “This one’s for Chadwick Boseman,” he said while accepting an award for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah. Kaluuya and Boseman worked together on Black Panther (not to be confused with Judas and the Black Messiah, in which Kaluuya plays a member of the Black Panther Party).

The Best-Dressed Stars at the 2021 SAG Awards https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-best-dressed-stars-at-the-2021-sag-awards.html Mon, 05 Apr 2021 00:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-best-dressed-stars-at-the-2021-sag-awards.html [ad_1]

You don’t need a traditional red carpet to serve up a stunning awards-season look, and the best-dressed stars at the 2021 SAG Awards are proof of that.

Despite being a totally virtual experience—the show was pre-recorded—this year’s SAG Awards did not disappoint when it comes to fashion. We miss the energy of a live event, of course, but there was one silver lining to the switch up: Celebrities took advantage of the extra time with their glam squads to show up in some of the best looks we’ve seen all awards season.

Top of the list is Jamie Chung, who made a powerful statement speaking out against anti-Asian hate through her style. Meanwhile, Viola Davis gave us a moment in neon green while Kerry Washington wins for best pose. Nicola Coughlan turned out in a Christian Siriano dress so gorgeous it made me gasp, and Jurnee Smollett…well, you just need to see Jurnee Smollett. It’s so good.

And that’s just the start! There were so many best-dressed stars at the 2021 SAG Awards, and you can see them all, in no particular order, below.

Jurnee Smollett in Zuhair Murad, Roger Vivier, and Bulgari

8 TV Shows and Movies to Check Out This Week, Including the 2021 SAG Awards https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/8-tv-shows-and-movies-to-check-out-this-week-including-the-2021-sag-awards.html Sun, 04 Apr 2021 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/8-tv-shows-and-movies-to-check-out-this-week-including-the-2021-sag-awards.html [ad_1]

This week’s slate of new TV shows and movies includes the 2021 SAGs, the highly-anticipated premiere of Chad, and a horror anthology series from Amazon. Read the highlights, below.

Sunday, April 4

27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards: This year’s show is pre-taped and only an hour long. “We’re looking at trying to do a unique award ceremony in an hour and leave people saying, which they very rarely do [with an awards show], ‘Man, I wish we had more,’” SAG executive producer Todd Milliner tells Variety. “It is a jam-packed hour, and we’re still trying to rob from one part to give to another part.” 9 p.m. ET on TBS/TNT

Monday, April 5

Family Reunion: Read the official description for this show, below. Streaming on Netflix

“When the McKellan family moves from Seattle to small-town Georgia, life down South—and traditional grandparents—challenge their big-city ways.”

Tuesday, April 6

Chad: “Playing Chad was a battle I had to win,” Nasim Pedrad wrote for Glamour in 2019 about this show. “Having an actual teenager play him would have completely changed the tone and comedic sensibility, the whole DNA of the show. I thought we could push the comedy so much further if Chad was played by an adult who’s in on the joke.” 10:30 p.m. ET on TBS

Wednesday, April 7

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute: Per Netflix, “In a star-studded evening of music and memories, a community of iconic performers honor Dolly Parton as the MusiCares Person of the Year.” Streaming on Netflix

Michaela Coel Receives a SAG Award Nomination After Being Snubbed by the Golden Globes https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/michaela-coel-receives-a-sag-award-nomination-after-being-snubbed-by-the-golden-globes.html Thu, 04 Feb 2021 17:49:34 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/michaela-coel-receives-a-sag-award-nomination-after-being-snubbed-by-the-golden-globes.html [ad_1]

Michaela Coel was one of the first names announced during the 2021 SAG Award nominations on February 4. Coel was recently snubbed by the Golden Globes when she didn’t receive a single nomination for her performance in I May Destroy You. The multi-hyphenate artist created, wrote, directed, and starred in the HBO limited series about a woman who rebuilds her life after experiencing a sexual assault.

Coel was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries alongside Cate Blanchett (Mrs. America), Nicole Kidman (The Undoing), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), and Kerry Washington (Little Fires Everywhere).

Twitter is celebrating Coel’s nomination, saying that it’s a victory after she was overlooked by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The SAG Award nominees are chosen from Screen Actors Guild members (a.k.a fellow actors), so this honor is a testament to the respect Coel’s peers have for her.

I May Destroy You is masterful artwork by and about a whole, layered, complex, vulnerable, powerful, sexual, funny & brilliant Black woman healing and in charge of her own destiny. Old Hollywood is not a fan,” Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff tweeted.

Game of Thrones actor Nathalie Emmanuael wrote, “I May Destroy You was one of the most important made in 2020… and ever. It tackled sexual assault and how it’s handled across different sexualities… sexuality itself… race, friendship, trauma and healing… and did so with nuance, authenticity and humour.”
