Thanks in part to the Kardashians and the ’90s revival of the past few years, lip liner has become nonnegotiable in most of our makeup routines. Though the premise seems simple—the name pretty much says it all, right?—there are certain techniques that can up your lip game to the next level.

The latest trick, courtesy of Mario Dedivanovic, Kim K’s longtime makeup artist, has been going viral on TikTok. The hack uses lip liner to mimic the newly popular “lip flip” treatment, which uses a small amount of Botox above your Cupid’s bow (instead of filler) for lifted and fuller lips. It also makes the distance between your nose and lips appear shorter, which has more of a youthful effect.

The technique itself is simple, but it makes a major difference. While your instinct may be to overline your entire lip for the illusion of a fuller pout, Dedivanovic’s trick is to line only above your Cupid’s bow and below the center of your bottom lip. “I love that people are into this technique,” Dedivanovic tells Glamour. “I wanted to show everyone there’s an easy, inexpensive, and less permanent way to make your lips look fuller and more lifted.”

Dedivanovic says to start by choosing your favorite lip pencil, and then slightly overline outside your upper lip line, paying most attention to the Cupid’s bow. “The Cupid’s bow should be more overlined than the outer corners. This step makes lips appear fuller, more enhanced, and shortens the space between nose and lip,” Dedivanovic says.

“Next, slightly overline the center of the bottom lip line, then extend the liner upwards toward the outer corners of the mouth, moving the liner inside the lip line,” he continues. “This creates the illusion of a lifted lip.” Then, diffuse and blend your liner from the corners inward with a brush—Dedivanovic’s Ultra Suede Sculpting Lip Pencil has one on the end of the pencil for this reason.

“Finish by applying a dab of your foundation or concealer to the brush, then clean up the edges of the lower lip if necessary so the liner is crisp,” he says. “This creates an even greater lifted effect. Set the concealer with translucent powder for extended wear.”

I’m always in search of fuller lips, so I had to put this trick to the test for myself, and the results speak for themselves. Not only did my lips look plumper and had that cute lifted effect, but I love how natural it looked, and I was able to avoid that telltale lip liner “mustache” that looks so obviously overlined.

15 Easy Makeup Ideas For When You Have Zero Time https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/15-easy-makeup-ideas-for-when-you-have-zero-time.html Tue, 18 May 2021 14:22:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/15-easy-makeup-ideas-for-when-you-have-zero-time.html [ad_1]

After the year we’ve had, even putting together easy makeup looks might sound exhausting. But the truth is, all you need is a few products and a couple of minutes to revisit the beauty routine you once relied on every day. As the world slowly reopens, prepare to excavate your beloved foundation, concealer, mascara, lipstick, and eyeshadow.

We spoke to the coolest celebrity makeup artists about the everyday makeup looks they keep in their back pocket for when they’re pressed on time, but want to pack a punch. From glittering eyelids to berry lips, there’s nothing boring about these looks. Scroll on for their makeup tutorials, and get ready to be inspired.

Pop of Purple

“This look is all about a very ‘sneaky’ pop of color very close to the lash line,” says Pati Dubroff, who created this subtle liner on Margot Robbie. “For this look, keep the rest of the face makeup soft and neutral,” she says. Then, draw a dash of colorful liner at the very base of the lash line. Dubroff used Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Purple Choc, and then used Chanel eyeshadow in Vibrant Violet on a small flat brush to add intensity to the line.

Subtle Wing

Take a cue from TikTok, and swap your liquid or pencil liner for a matte shadow instead. “This way there’s a softness, yet the wing still gives the illusion of a cat-like elongated eye,” says Dubroff. “I used the deep brown tone from Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Clair Obscur with a damp stiff angle brush.”

Glossy Lids

Glossy eye makeup is a pretty yet subtle way to bring all the attention to your eyes. “This look is all about radiance and glow, and bringing more light to the eye area,” says Dubroff. “I first used a eyeshadow that has a rosy hue across the lid up through the crease. On top of this, I tapped Chanel Baume Essentiel in Golden Light into the center of the lid for a glossy layer.” She  also loves the gloss on the tops of cheekbones.

Fluffy Brows

If you only have 10 minutes to get ready, try playing up your brows. A full, fluffy brow is modern and cool, especially when paired with natural makeup. “Fill in sparse areas by creating hair-like strokes, and always finish with a brow gel to keep them lifted and fluffy,” says celebrity makeup artist Emily Cheng. “We used Kosas Brow Pop here. Keeping the tip of your brow pencil sharp is key, if it’s a twist-up you can shave the edges or just break off the top to get the sharp edges back.” She also loves Glossier’s Brow Flick to add realistic “hairs,” and Benefit 24 Hour Brow Setter to keep things in place.

Twinkly Eyes

The easiest way to look like you tried today? Throw some shimmer on you eyes. For the above look, Cheng used the metallic end of Huda Beauty’s Matte & Metallic liquid eyeshadows. “I’ll use my fingers to tap onto the center of the lid or corner of the eyes for a subtle twinkle,” she says. “If I want a full on sparkle I’ll use Lemonhead’s fun assortment of glitters. Mixing and matching texture and layers of colors is a fun way to get more dimension.”

Flushed Lips

For a fresh take on lipstick, apply your favorite shade as a just-bitten stain. “I use a pigmented matte lip color like Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution, and press it on with my fingers,” says Cheng. “Slightly balmy makeup products work as well. Tower 28 Beach Please in Power Hour is another one of my favorites.”

Glowing Skin

Glowy skin is one of those makeup trends that will never go out of style. While makeup can help amp up the dew, Cheng says the key is focusing on skin prep. Use a gentle exfoliant to smooth over any dry patches (Cheng likes Glossier’s new Cleanser Concentrate) and a good moisturizer. Then, go in with a dewy foundation like Monika Blunder’s Blunder Cover or Shiseido Synchro Skin, before popping a highlighter on the high points of your face. Cheng used Pat McGrath’s Highlighter Balm on Indya Moore, above.

Monochromatic Makeup

If you’re short on time (or space in your makeup bag) using the same tone across eyes, cheeks, and lips is so cohesive and easy. “This will be a forever favorite makeup look,” says Cheng. “I love using one or two shades across all the features. She recommends the Tower28 Beach Please tints, as well as Sisley Le Phyto Blush. “I’ll use this on the cheeks and I’ll dab it onto my lip when I have balm on already.”

Colorful Cat Eye

Consider this green cat eye further proof that simple makeup doesn’t mean boring. Just swap your usual black liner for a vibrant shade. Makeup artist Kate Synnott, who created this look for Ashley Graham, used a soft light brown shadow to sketch out her wing shape. “Once I’ve perfected the shape I then go over the line with my green liner,” she says.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Resist Color Pencil Eyeliner

Nude Lips

Nude lips are a classic for a reason, they can pull together any look without looking too “done.” Synnott recommends choosing a “fleshy nude color that’s about two shades lighter than your skin tone. Use a brownish liner thats only one shade lighter to create more dimension and depth around the mouth.” She recommends using a shadow smudge brush to blend the liner and lipstick so it looks seamless. She likes Róen Kiss My Liquid Lip Balm in Charlie, and Victoria Beckham Posh Lipstick in Pose for darker skin.

Glossy Lips

Gloss isn’t going anywhere. For this ’90s inspired beat, makeup artist Kasey Spickard lined the lips with classic MAC Cork Liner, then went in with a “generous coat” of the Viseart Moisture Boost Lip Shine in Beignet. “This is a gorgeous warm toasty brown that gives the lips a perfect juicy pout,” he says.

Berry Kiss

Berry lips make as much of an impact as red, but are a little more unexpected. Spickcard loves LiveTinted’s Huestick in Free. “You can use the Huestick as a liner due to its pointed tip and then fill it in.”

Pink Flush

“To achieve a flushed look my best tips would be to use the same shade on the entire face to create a monochromatic look,” says celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta. “It brings a brightness to the face and allows that one shade to really pop. Don’t be afraid to select a pigmented blush, just adjust the tools you use to gently build up the color until you’re happy.” He loves his Creme & Powder Blush in the shade She’s That Girl, for a pop of color with a natural finish.

Patrick Ta Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush

Red Lips

A red lip seems simple, but Ta says to make sure your lips are prepped for the best results. “I love to use a thin, but super nourishing lip mask and apply to lips while working on the rest of the face,” he says. “Then I’ll go in and apply a high-pigment lipstick straight from the bullet as I find that it gives the best color pay off and wears longer and better than if you applied with a lip brush.”

Patrick Ta Major Glow Softening Lip Masque

Full Lashes

For full fluffy lashes without falsies, Ta says double curling your lashes is the secret. “It may seem excessive, but once you try this, you’ll be hooked on how amazing it makes your lashes look,” he says. “Then I like to go in with two coats of any volumizing mascara, I like wands that have bristles as I think it added to the fullness of the lashes.” Ta love Pat McGrath’s Dark Star Mascara

This ‘Face-Lifting’ Blush Hack That’s Going Viral Is Pure Genius https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/this-face-lifting-blush-hack-thats-going-viral-is-pure-genius.html Fri, 12 Mar 2021 22:30:04 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/this-face-lifting-blush-hack-thats-going-viral-is-pure-genius.html [ad_1]

My trouble with contouring is well-documented. I’ve never been able to nail the technique, so I’ve learned to accept my nonexistent cheekbones. However, a blush hack going around TikTok may be the answer I’ve been looking for.

Similar to the concealer “face-lift” hack that’s recently gone viral, what I’ve been calling the “blush sandwich” technique has been popping up all over Instagram and TikTok. Similar to the concealer trick (and often paired with it), this blush hack basically involves “stacking” your bronzer or contour, blush, and highlighter for a more lifted effect. The key here is not only in the stacking but the placement, which is much higher than where I’ve typically been told to place blush

Instead of placing contour under your cheekbones and blush directly on the apples of your cheeks, per the videos, your contour shade goes right above the hallows of your cheeks, and blush on top of that (similar to draping). The concealer, blended up and out from your eye, acts as a natural-looking highlighter. Each product comes all the way up to your temples for a really lifted look.

According to makeup artist Kasey Spickard, TikTok is onto something. “The classic placement of the contour below the cheekbones is taking your natural face shape and providing additional sculpt and depth to your existing features,” he tells Glamour. “With this new placement, which in some cases is directly on the cheekbone, you are actually faking your face shape by lifting the shadow higher to create the illusion of a higher cheekbone.” He adds that the same is true for blush, and that a higher blush placement will make the apples of your cheeks appear higher, thus more lifted.

“It’s taking a lot of the baseline principles of contouring and face shaping that drag queens do and translating it to an everyday application,” he says of the technique. While he says it looks amazing head-on, just be weary of the fact that it can look a little fake from the side if you go to high. “Make sure your placement isn’t too extreme and that you are blending all the way to make sure it’s as seamless as possible,” he advises.

Keeping Spickard’s advice in mind, I gave the technique a try myself. I was skeptical, as I generally find these sort of hacks work only if you wear much more makeup than I do, but I’m happy to report that it definitely made a difference, even with a minimal beat. I had more luck applying each product separately instead of stacked like in the videos, and was sure to keep my blending motions moving upward only. I would also recommend using all creams or liquids since they’re easier to blend for a seamless finish.

I can’t wait to show this off when masks are gone for good, but until then, there’s always TikTok.

The $18 Secret Addison Rae Swears By for Dewy Skin https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-18-secret-addison-rae-swears-by-for-dewy-skin.html Thu, 21 Jan 2021 20:55:49 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-18-secret-addison-rae-swears-by-for-dewy-skin.html [ad_1]

That you have to wear a full face of makeup. Sometimes, when I’m working out, I want to look awake but don’t want to put on a full face of makeup, so I’ll do just mascara. My formula for Item really lasts long, but isn’t damaging to take off. It’s a great workout mascara.

Lash Snack Lengthening Mascara

What’s the best beauty advice your mom ever gave you?

She was a makeup artist, so she taught me a lot of things, but the biggest was how to blend eye shadow. I used to do thick eye shadow and would never blend it, so she showed me to make it fade perfectly. She would blend for like three minutes. That’s the trick—just keep blending!

Fill in the blank: I love my hair when _______.

It’s naturally beach-wavy. My hair dries really wavy and textured, so you can call me a mermaid if you want.

What city or country gives you the biggest beauty inspiration?

France. Anything European. I’ve never been to Europe, but it really does inspire me, and they’re very much ahead of the trends that we end up seeing here. The look is timeless, classic.

You have $20 and free roam of the drugstore. What do you buy?

Dried mangoes, an eyelash curler—which is essential to make me look awake—and a bottle of conditioner. I always run out of that before shampoo.

What music do you listen to when you’re getting ready?

Lately I’ve been into artists that are mainly production-focused, so Flume is my go-to.

What’s your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

A shower followed by my skin-care routine. When I was filming He’s All That, the makeup artist stressed the importance of thoroughly washing my face to get all my makeup off at the end of the day. Once I wash my face, I love to use the Georgia Louise Cryo Freeze Tools, which I just got. I ordered them because Zoey Deutch used them in her Vogue Beauty Secrets video. What’s great is it leaves your skin feeling tight and gives you a nice flush.

Georgia Louise Cyro Freeze Tools

Facial or massage?

Massage, because I get really tense and hold that in my shoulders. That definitely relieves more tension.

Let’s play Screw, Marry, Kill: Beauty Edition with mascara, lipstick, and highlighter. Go!

Marry mascara because I love it, and it’s the one thing that definitely elevates your look. Screw lipstick because I like to have color. My Lip Quip is a lip oil, so it’s hydrating and gives you a wet look and feels really good on your lips. I’d kill highlighter. I love it, but I can use so many other things to make me glow, like my One Hit Mist.

Lip Quip Moisturizing Lip Oil

What color are you loving on your nails at the moment?

Right now I have cow print on my nails and zebra on my toes. I love deep colors, like navy or red or black. A couple weeks ago I had a French tip and each tip was a different color.

What’s your go-to perfume?

Candles influence what scent I use for perfume. I really like one by Ouai called North Bondi. It’s natural, but gives you a really good scent. And then I pair a perfume with lotion, which helps stick the smell on extra. I was a big Fantasy by Britney Spears fan my whole life. Light Blue is another good one too. I love the beach, so anytime I smell sunscreen, I love that, which is why I also use Sun Bum’s coconut sunscreen lip balm.

Ouai North Bondi Eau de Parfum

Britney Spears Fantasy Eau de Parfum Spray

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette

Sun Bum Sunscreen Lip Balm

If you could change one thing about beauty perceptions, what would it be?

The expectation that certain physical features should be this small or this big. It’s important to appreciate the size and shape of whatever physical feature you have. I have small ears, so it’s important to look past what’s been perceived as “better.” Let’s just appreciate the size and shape of every physical feature.

Who are the women inspiring you the most right now?

It changes every day, but I always love Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Beyonce, J.Lo—they have really good messages, plus they are so successful.
