Throughout the years Beyoncé has been loyal to her long, blonde-highlighted hair. Rarely do we see her with hair anywhere above her shoulders. In fact, one of the shortest looks she has recently worn fell a few inches past her collarbone in an Ivy Park ad in February 2021. But for 2022, Queen Bey is switching it up with a chin-grazing bob and full set of bangs.

She debuted the new hair for yet another Ivy Park ad to promote its sixth collection, which launches on February 9. In one photo posted on the brand’s Instagram, she is seen in an all-red latex outfit with a matching cap. Her blunt bob falls right around her jawline. The hair is completely straight with the ends slightly bumped, framing her face. The fringe stops right above her eyebrows in a blunt cut. We’re not sure if Edna Mode was the inspiration here, but the hair is definitely reminding us of the Incredibles character. Of course, Beyoncé didn’t abandon her signature blonde hair color with this dimensional caramel look.

Short hair wasn’t the only new thing Beyoncé tried. Makeup artist Sir John gave the icon a graphic eyeliner look in a jet-black hue. In addition to her classic cat eye, he added another winged-out line just above her crease. He connected the two wings with a curved, convex line to complete the eye makeup.

Beyoncé with a blunt bob and bangs was definitely not on our 2022 beauty bingo card, but we’re loving every inch of it. The haircut is a welcome change from her usual long hair. We have a good feeling that this bob was probably a one-time look for the Ivy Park ad, but hopefully the Queen will bless us with another short cut one of these days.

The ’70s Bob Is the Cutest Cheek-Framing Chop https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-70s-bob-is-the-cutest-cheek-framing-chop.html Sat, 08 Jan 2022 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-70s-bob-is-the-cutest-cheek-framing-chop.html [ad_1]

Wanna know why the ‘70s bob has got it going on? It takes the classic bob that we know and love, then adds some retro flair and personality.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that the whole ’70s aesthetic is back in a big way (see also: The Shag, The Farrah Flip and the psychedelic prints that have been infiltrating fashion trends). The era steadily gained popularity throughout 2021, when we sought color and escapism and it remains a core reference for 2022.

But, among the ‘70s most famous haircuts (and there are some bangers to choose from), flicky curtain bangs are one of the most enduring and popular styles of the decade. It’s not just that they’re easy to adopt (they skip the growing-out pains of a regular fringe and blend seamlessly into layers), but they offer unparalleled face-framing action, lifting cheekbones and focusing the attention toward our eyes.

So if you want an update to 2021’s headlining cut, the bob, we reckon adding a swooshy fringe is the perfect way forward…

7 ways to wear the ’70s bob

Iced blonde ’70s bob

The rounded voluminous shape and full flicked fringe is serving up a ’70s moment, but the icy platinum color keeps it current.

Rocker ’70s bob

What’s even better than a bob combined with a flicky ‘70s fringe? Throw in some shaggy layers for messy rocker vibes.

Jaw-length ’70s bob

This combines a shorter Frenchie-style shape (a beloved classic, we hasten to add) with a cheek-framing ’70s fringe. We love.

Low-key ’70s bob

If you’re still growing out a fringe, but you want to shift toward the ’70s aesthetic, this baby-flick fringe gives a low-key nod.

Outgrown ’70s bob

This is leaving bob territory and entering shag territory, but this outgrown bob shape is a cool way to wear the style if you’re looking to hold on to some extra length.

’70s bowl bob

This rounded bowl bob is retro and cute, but throw in the ‘70s fringe and it’s a vibe (don’t even get us started on the gorge copper color).

Sunshine blonde ’70s bob

Flicky, swooshy, airy, this is a beautiful way to wear the ’70s bob as we head into spring.

The Boy Bob Is Already Set to Be the Biggest Haircut of 2022 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-boy-bob-is-already-set-to-be-the-biggest-haircut-of-2022.html Thu, 06 Jan 2022 16:23:22 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-boy-bob-is-already-set-to-be-the-biggest-haircut-of-2022.html [ad_1]

Looking for the biggest haircut of 2022? Let us introduce you to the boy bob. Because let’s face it, we all know by now that the bob haircut is pretty much the shag of our generation. It’s iconic. It’s ubiquitous. And it’s everywhere. Honestly, we’ve seen every iteration going, from the A-line bob to the Frenchie bob, the collarbone bob, the ’90s crop bob, the tucked bob, the pixie bob, the box bob.… You name it, it’s been done.

Surely there’s no-where else to go—right? Except—we spoke to our favorite top hairstylists, and they let us in on a not-so-secret secret —when it comes to bobs, the options are endless and there is still tons of fun to be had. That’s where the boy bob comes in, according to L.A.’s coolest hairstylist, Sal Salcedo.

“Blunt boy bobs will be all the rage,” Salcedo tells Glamour. As bobs go, this one’s a loose cut that allows for lots of interpretation, and the rules are, there are almost no rules. The main feature is that it’s not too ‘done’. Mercifully, we can drop our straighteners and make like the lads with a wash-and-go situation on the days we can’t be faffed with serious styling. “It’s a fuller take on the bob where the natural texture can roam free. Anything from chin to collarbone length is game here,” Salcedo explains.

Leading London hairstylist and CEO of Hershesons, Luke Hersheson, has also pegged it as the style to have on your radar. “What’s important is the texture of the bob. It needs to feel a bit undone, nothing too rigid.” He recommends air-drying “so it’s got a bit of movement in it.”

Really, the boy bob is about personality and letting your hair’s own waves, kinks, and curls do their thang by working with your hairstylist on an easygoing cut that bigs up your own texture. Simple, but beautifully effective.

Bottleneck Bangs Are the Curtain Bangs’ Cool Younger Sister https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/bottleneck-bangs-are-the-curtain-bangs-cool-younger-sister.html Mon, 20 Dec 2021 15:48:39 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/bottleneck-bangs-are-the-curtain-bangs-cool-younger-sister.html [ad_1]

Are you still wondering if you should get bangs? Listen, we’ve all been there. Sometimes we regret the decision to commit to a fringe immediately, but sometimes, bangs transform us into our authentic selves. And maybe your own scissors have been sitting on the bathroom counter taunting you, convincing you to make the change yourself.

Bangs come in all different shapes and sizes. There are blunt bangs (like Dakota Johnson’s), wispy bangs, Birkin bangs, curly bangs, side-swept bangs, and curtain bangs. Basically, there is a type of bang that suits anyone, any face shape, and every level of maintenance you’re willing to put up with. But the latest bang trend we’re getting hyped over is bottleneck bangs, a longer bang that requires less maintenance than most and, let’s be honest, are easier to grow out if you’re not into the final result.

Celebrity hairstylist and European Creative Director for evo hair, Tom Smith says that the term “bottleneck bang” comes from exactly that: a bottle. “This hairstyle takes inspiration from the neck of a bottle; starting slim and short in the middle, curving longer around the eyes, and then longest following the line of the cheekbone,” Smith says. “This allows the length and angle to be adjusted depending on whether you want to make your cheekbones appear wider or stronger. Many people don’t suit a classic ‘fringe’ (the solid horizontal line across the face), but most can wear bottleneck bangs to add softness to the face.”

To get bottleneck bangs, it’s important to get specific with your stylist in order to get the style that frames your face exactly how you want. “To get bottleneck bangs, ask your hairstylist to create longer bangs that skim your cheekbones at an angle that flatters your face, curving around to create a layer that sits somewhere between your cheekbones and jaw,” Smith says. “Then ask for the central part to be cut shorter, keeping the cutting line soft and choppy, with the shortest part in the middle and getting longer on the edges.”

The ’90s Bixie Is Back, and It’s THE Short Hairstyle of 2022 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-90s-bixie-is-back-and-its-the-short-hairstyle-of-2022.html Thu, 16 Dec 2021 17:48:06 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-90s-bixie-is-back-and-its-the-short-hairstyle-of-2022.html [ad_1]

Just when I thought we’d figured out what all the big hairstyle trends were going to be in 2022, a familiar look from a few decades ago is throwing a gamine wrench into things. Although I honestly don’t remember it being called this back in the ’90s—and I remember pretty much all the great portmanteaus I’ve encountered in my lifetime—the “bixie” is back, and it’s ready to delight, dazzle, and potentially confuse.

The bixie is called the bixie because it combines elements of two distinctly recognizable hairstyles—the bob and the pixie—and creates a new hairstyle in a gray (but very cute) area. “A bixie cut is equal parts pixie cut and a bob,” says stylist Andrew Fitzsimons. “It’s a shaggy bob with a mix of layers, to add dimension and texture.” Think of the influx of short haircuts in the mid to late ’90s, the ones that weren’t cropped enough to be called pixies but weren’t long enough to be considered bobs. (At the time I think we just called the looks “short hair”…?) So many stars were doing it: Winona Ryder, Meg Ryan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry, Rachael Leigh Cook, Neve Campbell, Drew Barrymore, and the Aussie soap opera star turned pop singer who inspired my own college crop, Natalie Imbruglia.

Getty Images

It was an undeniably adorable look that eventually fell out of favor; my theory is that it evolved from a carefree look to a more heavily styled, extremely angular look that felt pretty cool when Victoria Beckham did it and then a little less so when Kate Gosselin did. (Is there any haircut more indelibly associated with the phrase “I need to speak to your manager”?) But a new wave of celebrities are bringing back that original, lower-key bob-meets-pixie vibe, and with it, an inevitability: We’re all going to be getting bixies in 2022.

We can credit Rowan Blanchard for getting the ball rolling two years ago while attending Paris Fashion Week with an authentic ’90s bixie, complete with choppiness and different lengths.

Everyone’s Getting ‘See-Through Bangs’ Right Now https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/everyones-getting-see-through-bangs-right-now.html Tue, 16 Nov 2021 21:14:31 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/everyones-getting-see-through-bangs-right-now.html [ad_1]

Okay, so this might be a little controversial, but we’re getting a bit tired of curtain bangs. Just a bit. It’s not that they don’t look amazing (no one could deny their universally flattering, face-framing effect), but we simply can’t be bothered with the amount of maintenance they require.

To achieve the ideal curtain bangs is a work of fine art. They need to be cut at the right length, styled with curling wands and round brushes to force them to flick out in the right direction, and sprayed with an array of products to keep them in place for as long as possible.

It was fine when we had the luxury of lockdown lie-ins and not much else to do. But now things are amping up again? It’s all about those low-maintenance beauty hacks that make us look polished and put together in a matter of minutes, which is why we were so pleased to hear about the rise of see-through bangs, the latest fringe trend forecast to dominate 2022.

What are see-through bangs?

According to Yuki, hair designer and owner of London’s Gavert Atelier Salon, see-through bangs are thin, wispy bangs that show a bit of your forehead through gaps in the hair. “See-through bangs have been trending among Asian women for the last few years but are also slowly becoming a trend in Europe and the U.S.,” he says. “Many of my clients asked for curtain bangs earlier in the year, and I noticed I have been getting more requests for see-through bangs after the summer.”

Do see-through bangs suit everyone?

“It’s not so much about the shape of your face, but you need to take your forehead into consideration,” says Luke Hersheson, hair stylist and CEO of Hershesons. When it comes to see-through bangs, you can afford to create any length you like if you have a larger forehead, but if you have a smaller forehead, it’s worth keeping them super wispy and slightly grown out.

Yuki agrees: “In general, people who have a small or narrow forehead are considered to not suit bangs, but the light, see through bangs can create a soft, youthful impression.”

How do you create see-through bangs?

As with all fringe styling, it’s important to cut on dry hair as opposed to wet or freshly washed hair. Wet hair is heavier than dry hair and can distort the actual length— a crucial fact when it comes to designing a fringe.

“First of all, I part the hair into a triangle section at the front,” explains Yuki. “The top of the triangle lines up with the centre of the face, about one inch from the hair line, and the bottom two points would be the outer corners of eyes.”

Yuki then uses a point cut (when the scissors cut into the ends of the hair, rather than across) to create light bangs and add soft texture.

Kaia Gerber Just Debuted a Shag Haircut With Bangs https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kaia-gerber-just-debuted-a-shag-haircut-with-bangs.html Wed, 10 Nov 2021 20:50:22 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kaia-gerber-just-debuted-a-shag-haircut-with-bangs.html [ad_1]

As the days turn darker, the months colder, the air chillier, a girl has to take steps to keep her forehead warm, and Kaia Gerber is no exception. She recently joined the Shag Hive, debuting long bangs on Instagram while promoting the latest YSL lip color.

The actor and model is giving us full Joan Jett vibes, posing in a dark car wearing a leather jacket. The long fringe and soft waves frame her face beautifully and will probably be easy to grow out. As the bangs dip past her eyebrows, she can brush them to the side for a one-eyed swoopy look, or part them in the middle for a curtain bangs moment.

Instagram:@kaiagerber

This easy, breezy style has been sweeping through the celebrity set lately. Taylor Swift has had a quasi-shag for over a year, as have Dakota Johnson and Sandra Oh. Zendaya’s always changing her hair, but shaggy styles are definitely in the mix. (Check out our guide to 29 versions of the shag to find the one that best suits your face shape and hair texture.)

Oh, and of course, Miley Cyrus has long been reigning queen of the modern shag. Guess all those years under the Hannah Montana wig made her appreciate a low-key style.

“I would say the most modern version is focused on movement just around your hairline,” says Amber Maynard Bolt, stylist at L.A.’s Nine Zero One salon. “You don’t need a ton of layers all over your head if you don’t want to lose the density of your hair.” For someone with thinner hair like Kaia Gerber, that’s key.

“Depending on your hair texture, the shag is a cut that can be worn extremely messy or seamlessly straight,” says stylist Anh Co Tran, although Bolt adds that you get the most effortless look if you have some natural texture to your hair: “The face-framing aspect brings out or hides various points of the face.”

Selena Gomez Now Has a Sharp Bob Haircut https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/selena-gomez-now-has-a-sharp-bob-haircut.html Tue, 19 Oct 2021 19:13:07 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/selena-gomez-now-has-a-sharp-bob-haircut.html [ad_1]

Selena Gomez just debuted a dramatic new look to promote the finale of her Hulu show Only Murders in the Building. In a TikTok announcing a watch party for the season one finale, the actor and singer sports a sleek bob, quite the departure from the long locks she’s had all year.

Looking comfy in a Disneyland sweatshirt, the “Wolves” singer attracted plaudits from fans, one of whom commented, “YOU LOOK SO GOOD WITH SHORT HAIR SELENA.”

Selena Gomez was spotted just last month with mermaid-style hair down to her waist, so this is definitely a switch-up. Was it time to trim split ends, or is her new look for a role? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, all episodes from season one of Only Murders are now available on Hulu, and season two is coming

“Everyone in our amazing Building worked with such love and expertise through extraordinary times—and with incredible support from Disney, Hulu, and 20th TV—to create a first season that might live up to our legendary cast, our beloved New York City, and to make a show about connection,” series cocreator and executive producer John Hoffman told Variety. “To feel we’ve connected with our audience and hit the mark enough already to have the chance to continue— and to carry on our show’s wild ride of mystery-comedy-empathy—is too exciting for words. So I’ll shut up now—and just say a huge thanks to all and I can’t wait for more!”

“There has been something about this project that felt almost fated from the start; from Dan’s first lunch with Steve in which Steve happened to mention he had an idea for a series, to John jumping aboard to co-create it, to Steve’s agreeing to star but only if Marty joined him, to the inspired addition of Selena,” 20th Television president Karey Burke told Variety. “The comedy this team delivered has been the obsession of every executive at this studio, and our friends at Hulu have treated it like the crown jewel that it is. And now, thanks to the incredible audience response, we are so happy to say there will be more murders in the building—which is great news for everyone, except perhaps the residents of the Arconia.”

The Italian Bob Is Fall’s Chicest Haircut https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-italian-bob-is-falls-chicest-haircut.html Tue, 19 Oct 2021 17:43:46 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-italian-bob-is-falls-chicest-haircut.html [ad_1]

There’s a new bob in town—brace yourselves, coz she’s an absolute fox. Enter the Italian bob.

Hot on the tails of the Brit bob (think choppy, cropped Lady Diana vibes) and the Frenchie bob (artfully, insouciantly messy, and sliced at the cheek for a peekaboo cut), the Italian bob takes the full-bodied and luxuriously polished texture that Italian film sirens and fashionistas, like Monica Bellucci, are known for and generously adds a couple of extra plush inches to the traditional bob.

Basically it’s a bit more glam, which is the mood lots of us are chasing. Two stylists in particular are leading the charge, serving up all the inspo we need. Nick Latham and Sean Paul Nother, the talent behind the salon and Instagram account The Hair Bros, have been using their platform to break down what, exactly, the Italian bob is.

“It’s chunky-ended, neck grazing, and long enough to tie up, yet short enough to turn heads,” Latham explains. Ideal going into autumn, the chunky, blunt ends and minimal, subtle layers add a sumptuous weightiness to hair to make it feel thicker, fuller, and more expensive.

Celeb fans like Kaia Gerber have boosted the cut’s popularity, giving rebel haircuts a touch of soft glam with beautifully conditioned, freshly cut hair. The trick is to not overdo the styling and leave the shape to shine without beachy waves or obvious effort.

Stephane Cardinale – Corbis

Despite the upmarket glossy finish, the cut is remarkably easy to style. “The beauty of this haircut is its versatility. The heaviness allows for that Parisian air-dried feel when left natural, but you can put a brush through it for a nod to classic ’60s glamour,” explains Nother. Even better, it looks fab no matter which way you flip it. “The Italian bob can be thrown into any parting with equal effect and to gain the second-day volume we all love,” he says.

And little tweaks can enhance the style while making it more practical. “Wear it in the middle to frame your cheekbones, or tuck it behind your ears when hunched over a Zoom call,” says Latham.
