Sophie Turner is arguably known for two things: her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and her long, icy blonde hair. However, the actor decided to ditch her signature blonde mane sometime last year for a deep red, which she’s just brightened up even more for a fresh candy apple shade. Turner was seen sporting the new hair color while walking around Los Angeles with husband Joe Jonas on February 16.

Contrary to the approach of most celebrities, Turner did not take to Instagram to share her latest hair color transformation. Red is not exactly a new look for the actor, and she was seen with a deeper, more copper-toned hue than what we’re seeing in these recent photos just last month. Case in point: an advertisement for a Louis Vuitton watch that she shared via Instagram on January 14. Three months prior to the debut of the advertisement, the actor posted another photo of herself showing off her dark red head of hair.

According to colorists that Allure has previously spoken to, wearing various hues of red and dark brown simultaneously is expected to be the primary way in which red will be worn this year. Known as chocolate cherry, this hair color plays with a variety of reds, such as rose and copper, but “rich brown” serves “as the background color,” says Lorena Martinez of Maxine Salon. Though Turner’s hair is a bit brighter than these trend predictions, maybe she knows something we don’t—or she’s starting a fiery new trend all on her own.

The reasons for Turner’s hair color transformation are unclear. With the arrival of spring only a month away, perhaps she’s simply looking to start off the new season with a bright, fresh look.

23 Burgundy Hair Colors To Shake Up Your Winter Blues https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/23-burgundy-hair-colors-to-shake-up-your-winter-blues.html Wed, 16 Feb 2022 22:37:54 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/23-burgundy-hair-colors-to-shake-up-your-winter-blues.html [ad_1]

Shades of red are without a doubt having a moment, but burgundy hair color is the coolest, boldest take on the trend. Not for the faint of heart, it takes everything that makes red great—eye catching, flattering, and unique—and dials it up to 100. It has a slight ‘90s vibe—another of-the-moment trend—but thanks to the recent uptick in red shades, feels totally current. And if even the brightest of coppers feels too natural to you, burgundy is a guaranteed way to stand out from the crowd.

Even though it is technically a specific color—unlike red, which can refer to a wide range—there are still tons of takes on burgundy. The easiest? Consider trying a gloss, especially if you’re on the fence about the shade. “I like glosses for everyone, but mostly for people who don’t want to, or aren’t quite ready to, fully commit,” says celebrity colorist and owner of Jenna Perry Hair, Jenna Perry. “Glosses are not permanent, there is no damage to the hair, and they add shine and depth. It’s also good for in-between coloring and for refreshes—it stretches the longevity.”

From a subtle tint to full-on saturation, or somewhere in between like a cool ombré, there’s whole lotta ways to rock the trend—we rounded up 23 of them to be exact. Scroll on for the coolest burgundy hair colors to try right now, for all hair types and textures.

Turns Out Sydney Sweeney Used to Be Brunette With Bangs https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/turns-out-sydney-sweeney-used-to-be-brunette-with-bangs.html Fri, 11 Feb 2022 21:41:38 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/turns-out-sydney-sweeney-used-to-be-brunette-with-bangs.html [ad_1]

Sydney Sweeney is as almost as well known for her bright blonde hair as she is for her acting chops, so we were surprised to learn that blonde wasn’t always her signature look

Last year, tweets surfaced showing the Euphoria actress with deep brunette hair, and a pair of heavy blunt bangs. Based on the timeline of these photos—which a recent beauty evolution by Nylon revealed would be around 2013-2014—and the Tumblr vibes they give off, we would guess her look was heavily inspired by Alexa Chung or Zooey Deschanel.

According to Sweeney, there’s a reason most of us don’t know her brunette era even exists in the first place—she’s not a fan of it herself. She replied to the fan account with a tweet that simply said “This was a stage I’d like to forget.” And who could blame her? High school was hard for most of us, even if it wasn’t Euphoria-levels of depressing.

Sweeney recently opened up about the behind-the-scenes of filming Euphoria, and gave some content to what some fans are calling “excessive” topless scenes.  “Sam is amazing,” she said, per BuzzFeed, praising series creator Sam Levinson. “There are moments [in the script] where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here’…. He was like, ‘Okay, we don’t need it.’”

Sweeney explained, “I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show. When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.” Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. “I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting…. I didn’t feel comfortable with my castmate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it,” Sweeney recalled of filming intimate scenes in other projects, adding that in those situations she “didn’t feel like [she] was able to speak up.”

She also pointed out the double standard applied to male and female actors with regard to onscreen nudity, saying there’s a “stigma against actresses who get naked onscreen” and that “when a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise, but the moment a girl does it, it’s completely different.”

‘Nectar Blonde’ Is Spring’s Prettiest Hair Color https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/nectar-blonde-is-springs-prettiest-hair-color.html Wed, 09 Feb 2022 19:42:35 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/nectar-blonde-is-springs-prettiest-hair-color.html [ad_1]

This winter was undoubtedly ruled by brunettes. But as we ease into spring, it looks like  brighter shades are making a comeback—the latest being nectar blonde.

Hot off the trail of expensive blonde, nectar blonde is a dreamy, creamy shade that strikes the perfect balance between brightness and believability. It has all the boldness of platinum but is updated with softer, warmer tones, making it way easier to pull off—and maintain.

“Nectar blonde looks luxurious, golden and warm,” Tom Smith, celebrity hairstylist and Evo creative director, tells Glamour. “The key here is to lighten the hair’s base color to a dark golden blonde, adding warm vanilla cream highlights through the layers and to the face frame area.”

To get the shade, Smith suggests asking for your beige or golden-blonde base, with hand-painted highlights that are a little chunkier than you might typically go for. “This color works best for those with medium to fair natural hair, as very dark bases tend to have more orange undertones to fight against,” he says. “Don’t use a purple shampoo with this color. Instead, enhance warmth and richness using products with beige and golden tones, such as Evo Fabuloso Beige.

While the color pops plenty on its own, Smith likes to pair it with what he calls fluffy hair to really show off the dimension. Plus, the shade really nails that whole ’90s supermodel vibe—think Claudia Schiffer—making it the perfect compliment to a big, bouncy blowout.

Hair Frosting Is The Prettiest New Take on Highlights https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/hair-frosting-is-the-prettiest-new-take-on-highlights.html Fri, 04 Feb 2022 19:19:52 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/hair-frosting-is-the-prettiest-new-take-on-highlights.html [ad_1]

While your mind may associate darker hair colors with cold weather, there’s nothing like a bright shade to pull you out of the winter blahs—which is why hair frosting is majorly trending right now.

The name might call to mind a can of Duncan Hines or jarring early 2000s frosted tips, but the technique is much more natural than both. Basically, it’s a riff on traditional highlights that add subtle pops of brightness throughout your hair. “Hair frosting is a free-hand method to paint highlights on the surface of the hair,” says Bianca Hillier, a celebrity hair colorist and Olaplex ambassador. “They’re intentionally placed and have a natural grow out, perfect for those who only get their hair maintained a few times a year.”

The super natural look is achieved because the highlights are painted directly on the hair, not on a foil like you may be used to. Not only does this give you a less precise look, but the lack of foil keeps the color on top of the hair, instead of moving all the way through it, explains Hillier. “A foil conducts heat, and frosting doesn’t instigate any heat and allows the chemicals to act at the formulated pace,” she says. “These frosted bits feel more sheer and ribbon-like opposed to a foil—dense and tinsel-like.”

Hillier says that the name “frosted” usually refers to an icy tone, there’s room to wiggle and you can get the look with warmer, more golden tones as well. “It’s always best to show up with an inspiration photo of what you desire allowing the hair colorist to navigate what is realistic to achieve and give a thorough consultation,” she says. “With a frosted look everyone must consider their skin tone and eye color in order to compliment what is best for you.”

Other things to consider? How much maintenance you want to commit to—this will determine the level of brightness you go for—as well as how natural you want the highlights to look, since they can range from sun-kissed to full-on money piece vibes.

No matter what shade or brightness level you go with, Hillier suggests asking your stylist for “soft contrast with fluid frosted tips,” to get the desired look. You’ll also want to upgrade your hair routine a little to make the highlights pop. “I always recommend my clients use Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother, and Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil at home to give the hair shine since cooler tones reflect less light than a golden warm tone,” she says. “I want all my clients to have the most sparkle possible.”

‘Expensive Blonde’ Will Be Spring’s Biggest Hair Color Trend https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/expensive-blonde-will-be-springs-biggest-hair-color-trend.html Thu, 03 Feb 2022 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/expensive-blonde-will-be-springs-biggest-hair-color-trend.html [ad_1]

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably already heard about expensive brunette, the multidimensional luxe hair color that took off in fall 2021 and is set to be a front-runner for 2022 hair color trends. But what about if blondes want to have fun? Umm…well, there’s a shade coming up the tracks that’s tipped to be big news for spring. Its name? Expensive blonde. Go figure.

“You’ve all heard of the expensive-brunette trend, now this is what I’m calling expensive blonde,” celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith, European creative director for Evo Hair, told fans on his Instagram grid. In a clip discussing his hair-trend predictions for 2022, the pro singled out the hair color as the one to watch if you fancied switching—or updating—your hair to blonde.

“It’s a really soft contrast so there are fewer shadows in the hair, but it’s not one set color. There’s still dimension, there’s still highs and lows,” Smith explained. “Generally it’s a warmer shade, but I think this is really going to do well in spring.”

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

In the video, Smith showed a picture of Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause, who shifted her hair color from a caramel to a brighter warm blonde last summer.

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

The technique closely follows that of expensive brunette, which Tom previously said “is all about giving deeper hair energy, dimension, and detail.” To get that luxe finish, an expert blend of different blonde tones will take lighter hair to the next level versus an all-over box-dye look. “I’m of the opinion that it’s a professional hair colourists’ responsibility to give clients something they could never get at home,” Smith explained. And expertly placed highlights and lowlights can help add interest and give your blonde a look that’s more intentional and designed.

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you’re interested in giving the trend a go, make sure you and your hair colorist are on the same wavelength to ensure the color is bespoke to your vision and lifestyle. Discuss the deepest and lightest shades of blonde you’d like to incorporate, such as golden, sand, butterscotch, platinum, beige, or honey. Your hair stylist should scatter them subtly so the finished look is effortless but—you guessed it—expensive.

Billie Eilish Was Secretly a Redhead for a Week https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/billie-eilish-was-secretly-a-redhead-for-a-week.html Mon, 03 Jan 2022 19:59:36 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/billie-eilish-was-secretly-a-redhead-for-a-week.html [ad_1]

Billie Eilish is continuing to test the waters when it comes to her hair color.

After transitioning her longtime black hair with green roots to platinum blonde—which took six weeks to accomplish—it seemed Eilish decided to go straight for brunette when she debuted her deep chocolate fringed bob back in December 2021. However, it turns out the “Ocean Eyes” singer took a pit stop in the land of auburn hair in November for a week without showing fans…until now.

In the early hours of January 3, Eilish prompted fans to pick random dates from 2021 for her to share photos or videos from on Instagram Stories. When one fan chose November 22, the singer revealed that she secretly went red for a very short period of time.

“Took the blonde out and went red for a week hehe,” Eilish wrote on top of the video from the hair salon chair.

Sure enough, by December 2, she was posting selfies of her fresh brunette look:

Billie Eilish didn’t explain her decision to part from the red after just a week. Perhaps it was simply how the dye took to her platinum hair as she transitioned from light to dark. Maybe she just didn’t end up liking the auburn look.

Whatever the case may be, she has spoken in the past about her fondness for changing things up. “I’ve had different-colored hair and vibes for everything I’ve ever done. I wanted [Happier Than Ever] to have its own thing,” Eilish told Elle in September 2021. “The other day, I posted a video from when I had green hair, and I saw people go, ‘I miss this Billie, the green-haired Billie.’ I’m still the same person.”

Still, another reason for the change from bright green to blonde was practical, if not a little heartbreaking. “I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity,” Eilish also told Elle. After going platinum, there was more freedom. “I went to a park with a friend, and I was like, ‘No, I can’t take off my hood!’” she continued. “I was terrified of the paparazzi and these stalkers I’ve had. But my friend was like, ‘Don’t worry: You’re okay. Nothing’s gonna happen.’ And I took my hood off, and I felt like a new person.”

Florence Pugh Just Dyed Her Pixie Cut Platinum Blonde https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/florence-pugh-just-dyed-her-pixie-cut-platinum-blonde.html Sat, 18 Dec 2021 16:12:08 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/florence-pugh-just-dyed-her-pixie-cut-platinum-blonde.html [ad_1]

Florence Pugh has dyed her pixie cut mullet platinum blonde and she honestly looks like a punk rock Tinker Bell.

On December 16, the Hawkeye star shared her latest hair transformation on Instagram, where she posted multiple pics of her icy blonde hair sticking up in an impossibly cool fashion. “Merry Christmas kisses.. ?,” she captioned the post from a Christmas tree stand.

Pugh, who has been known as a blonde for most of her career, first debuted her short hair not long after transitioning to a deep chocolate brunette. “I did a thing..#chopchopchop ✂,” she captioned the Instagram post on October 30.

The cut, which received over 2 million likes on Instagram, was a hit amongst fans and celebrities alike. “I am crying. Stunning,” Ariana Grande commented on the post, while fellow Marvel star Hailee Steinfeld wrote, “Absolutely.”

Joey King replied, “I love it,” and Gemma Chan simply responded, “Yessssss ???.”

Though Florence Pugh has had this cut for less than a month, this may not be the first time she’s changed up the color of her pixie. On November 23, the actor shared a photo on Instagram that had fans convinced Pugh had colored her hair a vibrant shade of red, though it may have been a trick of the light. (The next day, the actor posted an Instagram Story in which her hair was back to brunette.)

“WAIT THE HAIR WAIT WAIT IT’S RED IT LOOKS SO GOOD HELP,” one fan of the shade commented.

Of course, the Midsommar star has never been one to shy away from a little hair dye. This is the same person who rocked pink tips for the Black Widow premiere, after all.

Just remember, if you’re looking to change up your look, going from darker shades to bright blonde requires patience and a fair amount of upkeep. When Billie Eilish took the plunge in March, the process took six weeks. For Selena Gomez, the transformation required “200 foils, several bowls of bleach, and 8 hours of hair magic.”

Of course, that doesn’t mean the results aren’t worth it. If you’re feeling inspired, check out Glamour’s list of the 35 best shades of blonde to use as inspiration.

7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Dyeing My Hair Red https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/7-things-i-wish-i-knew-before-dyeing-my-hair-red.html Fri, 10 Dec 2021 21:36:41 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/7-things-i-wish-i-knew-before-dyeing-my-hair-red.html [ad_1]

“I like glosses for everyone, but mostly for people who don’t want to, or aren’t quite ready to, fully commit,” says Perry. “Glosses are not permanent, there is no damage to the hair, and they add shine and depth. It’s also good for in-between coloring and for refreshes—it stretches the longevity.”

While we discussed the shade, I told Perry that I’ll most likely want to go back to blonde in a few months. Even with red’s reputation for fading, returning to my original level of blonde would be a huge undertaking, so we settled on a gloss. Not only did this allow Perry a ton of freedom with mixing colors—she started with a copper gloss and added a violet-red one on top for extra pop—it also calmed my nerves about trying the shade, since I knew it would slowly fade in about six weeks or so. Glosses are a great way to try the shade if you’re unsure, and you can always add a demi-permanent dye on top if you fall in love. If you have darker hair, a gloss is also a fun way to add a red tint to your existing shade without having to touch bleach.

Waiting for the first round of gloss to do its thing

Bella Cacciatore

4. Red takes time—and money.

The two hours it took to go from blonde to red flew by compared with my usual four- to six-hour bleach sessions, but it’s still a time commitment, so plan your salon visit accordingly. Not only does the initial appointment take time, but you also have to factor in salon visits every other month or so to keep the color looking fresh and vibrant—especially if you go with a gloss option. “If a client is keen on a color that is low-maintenance, I wouldn’t recommend a red tone,” says Perry.

Since red hair color molecules are larger, it can take a few visits for the color to “stick,” so plan for a few rounds of coloring to get your ideal result. The initial color appointment can cost upwards of $200, with touch-ups and glosses starting at $100, so make sure that fits in your budget. Reds can easily go south—the line between not red enough and too red is a fine one—so don’t skimp on a colorist.

5. Don’t get too attached.

The major downside of a gloss? It will fade—and fast. My hair is already significantly lighter three weeks down the line than when I left the salon, and it’s only going to get lighter from here. Yes, there are things you can do to maintain the color—we’ll get to that in a second—but the best thing is adjusting your expectations and rolling with it.

I’m really enjoying how my hair color looks slightly different every time I wash it—and depending on whatever lighting I’m in. It’s a great benefit of the color.  If you’re someone who loves consistency, be prepared for frequent upkeep. Otherwise, red may not be the shade for you.

My hair fresh from the salon (please ignore the pimple patch) versus three weeks later

Bella Cacciatore

6. You’ll need to revamp your hair-care routine.

After dropping a few hundred dollars on new color, the last thing you want to do is spend even more money on brand-new products. But trust me, it will be worth it in the long run. Luckily, one of the best tips for upkeep costs nothing at all: If you wash your hair every day, cut back to every other day at most to keep your hair as vibrant as possible. Per Perry, every other time you wash your hair, use a color-depositing shampoo and conditioner—she sent me home with Davines Alchemic Shampoo in Red and the conditioner in Copper. I personally like to use the shampoo once or twice a week, since the red tones stick better than the copper, and the conditioner three or four times a week so it doesn’t get to violet-toned.

Billie Eilish Just Dyed Her Hair Chocolate Brown https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/billie-eilish-just-dyed-her-hair-chocolate-brown.html Fri, 03 Dec 2021 16:53:18 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/billie-eilish-just-dyed-her-hair-chocolate-brown.html [ad_1]

Blonde Billie has left the building. Billie Eilish just unveiled another dramatic hair change, this time taking a walk on the brunette side.

In an Instagram Story on December 2, Eilish posted a close-up of dark brown bangs hanging over her eyes, with the caption “Guess what?” Shortly after, she revealed the new look in an Instagram post: Her hair is now a deep brunette, and she’s maintaining her prominent bangs.

The dark brown looks fantastic on the “Happier Than Ever” singer, though it’s not surprising for someone who previously pulled off black, blue, platinum blonde, and neon green. That’s called range, folks.

“I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity,” Eilish told Elle magazine about her signature black and green hair and why she decided to go blonde.

Finally, when she took the platinum plunge, things changed. “I went to a park with a friend, and I was like, ‘No, I can’t take off my hood!’” she told Elle. “I was terrified of the paparazzi and these stalkers I’ve had. But my friend was like, ‘Don’t worry: You’re okay. Nothing’s gonna happen.’ And I took my hood off, and I felt like a new person.”

She also told Elle she dyed her hair blonde to reflect the vibe of her new music era. (She released her second studio album, Happier Than Ever, in July.)

“I’ve had different-colored hair and vibes for everything I’ve ever done. I wanted [Happier Than Ever] to have its own thing,” Eilish said. “The other day, I posted a video from when I had green hair, and I saw people go, ‘I miss this Billie, the green-haired Billie.’ I’m still the same person.”

So with this new dye job, can we expect a new project on the horizon? Only time will tell.
