Is Manifesting an EGOT https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/h-e-r-is-manifesting-an-egot.html Mon, 26 Apr 2021 14:59:58 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/h-e-r-is-manifesting-an-egot.html [ad_1]

H.E.R. is manifesting an EGOT.

This rarefied designation means that a person has won four prestigious awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. And H.E.R. is already halfway there. The musician already has a handful of Grammy Awards on her shelf, most recently for 2021’s “I Can’t Breathe,” and on April 25 took home an Academy Award for best original song for “Fight for You” from Judas and the Black Messiah. The singer shared the Oscar with collaborators Tiara Thomas and Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II.

Asked about plans to get to EGOT status backstage, H.E.R. told the press, “There’s absolutely going to be an EGOT in my future, hopefully,” according to People. The talented 23-year-old also spoke of her onscreen aspirations, adding that she is “super passionate about acting as well, so you may see me up here as an actress also, and then I love musicals. Me and Brandy have been talking a lot and she’s inspired me, since she did a musical.” (Brandy’s beloved performance in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella is currently streaming on Disney Plus, by the way.) Music is the most popular path to an EGOT, as original songs are represented at all four awards shows.

In her acceptance speech, the musician spoke about the power of music, especially in a story as relevant as Judas and the Black Messiah, which covers FBI interference in the Black Panther Party. “Knowledge is power, music is power, and as long as I’m standing, I’m always gonna fight for us. I’m always gonna fight for my people and fight for what’s right, and I think that’s what music does, and that’s what storytelling does,” she said. “I did not expect to win this award. I am so, so, so grateful, not only to win but to be a part of such an important story.”

Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend Joe Alwyn Just Won His First Grammy Award for His Work on ‘Folklore’ https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/taylor-swifts-boyfriend-joe-alwyn-just-won-his-first-grammy-award-for-his-work-on-folklore.html Sun, 25 Apr 2021 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/taylor-swifts-boyfriend-joe-alwyn-just-won-his-first-grammy-award-for-his-work-on-folklore.html [ad_1]

In March, Taylor Swift won album of the year for her eighth studio album, Folklore, at the 2021 Grammy Awards, making her the first artist ever to win the accolade three times. Now, she and her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, have another win to celebrate.

According to People, Alwyn was recently added to the list of winners of the iconic gramophone trophy. Obviously, putting together an album is a team effort and Swift already shared the award with producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, among others

But why would Swift’s British actor boyfriend of five years get a spot on the list? Well, back in July 2020, fans began speculating that a certain collaborator on the album, William Bowery, was actually a pseudonym for Alwyn. Swift later confirmed the rumor during her Disney+ concert documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions. “So William Bowery is Joe, as we know,” Swift said. “And Joe plays piano beautifully and he’s always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things.”

So yeah, Alwyn is actually credited with co-writing “Exile” and “Betty,” as well as co-producing “Exile,” Betty,” “My Tears Ricochet,” “August,” “This Is Me Trying,” and “Illicit Affairs,” according to People.  And their collaboration didn’t end there. On her surprise ninth album, Evermore, Alwyn is credited on “Champagne Problems,” “Coney Island,” and “Evermore.”

“He’s always the person who’s showing me songs by artists and then they become my favorite songs,” Swift told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe back in December. “Joe and I really love sad songs. We’ve always bonded over music. We write the saddest [songs]. We just really love sad songs. What can I say?…It was a surprise that we started writing together. But in a way it wasn’t, because we have always bonded over music and had the same musical tastes.”

Joe Alwyn even got a romantic shoutout from Taylor Swift at the Grammys on March 14. “Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write,” she said in her acceptance speech. “I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine.”

Under-$20 Beauty Products Celebrities Swear By for the Red Carpet https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/under-20-beauty-products-celebrities-swear-by-for-the-red-carpet.html Mon, 05 Apr 2021 21:10:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/under-20-beauty-products-celebrities-swear-by-for-the-red-carpet.html [ad_1]

The red carpet might not seem like the most obvious place to get affordable makeup and beauty product recommendations. As one of Hollywood’s greatest traditions, red-carpet—or amid the pandemic, backyard—photos are when you can expect celebrities to really do it big. After all, we’re talking about awards shows that give away vouchers for $1,900 vampire breast lifts and luxury TP in their gift bags. So it’d be unsurprising if the beauty products too were accessible to only the 1%, right?

While that might be the case for “penis facials,” many of the hair, makeup, and skin-care products glam squads use on the awards circuit are refreshingly affordable. Brands often broker deals with makeup artists and hairstylists to use their newest launches for red-carpet looks. And why not? As the “who are you wearing?” question proves, celebrities on the red carpet are essentially walking billboards, even in the era of at-home awards shows.

Plus, this is good news for the rest of us. We might not be able to drop thousands on a designer gown, but $9 on the same eyeshadow Megan Thee Stallion wore to the Grammys? You bet we want—and can have—that.

Ahead, keep tabs as we track the most affordable makeup and hair finds from this red carpet season. The best part? You can add it all to cart without going over budget.

Read the Sweet, Handwritten Note Beyoncé Wrote Taylor Swift After the 2021 Grammys https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/read-the-sweet-handwritten-note-beyonce-wrote-taylor-swift-after-the-2021-grammys.html Fri, 19 Mar 2021 21:08:15 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/read-the-sweet-handwritten-note-beyonce-wrote-taylor-swift-after-the-2021-grammys.html [ad_1]

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift both had amazing nights at the 2021 Grammys. After scoring her 28th win, Queen Bey became the most-awarded woman in Grammy history. And after Folklore took home Album of the Year, Swift became the first woman to win that award three times. (She previously won for 1989 and Fearless.)

So how does one celebrate such legendary achievements? Well, for starters, flowers. On Friday, March 19, Swift shared a photo of the flowers and handwritten note Beyoncé sent her after they saw each other at the Grammys.

“Woke up to flowers from the queen of grace and greatness @beyonce, and suddenly it’s the best Friday ever,” Swift wrote on Instagram Stories. “Thank you, B, and congratulations on your epic achievement Sunday night.”

As for what Bey wrote Swift, here’s the note in full: “Taylor, congratulations on your Grammy. It was great seeing you on Sunday night. Thank you for always being so supportive. Sending love to you and your family.”

@TaylorSwift/Instagram

Legends supporting legends. We love to see it!

During one of her acceptance speeches at the Grammys, Beyoncé told the audience and viewers, “Thank you, guys, so much. Oh my God. I am so honored. I am so excited. Thank you, guys. As an artist, I believe it’s my job, and all of our jobs, to reflect the times. It has been such a difficult time, so I wanted to uplift, encourage, and celebrate all of the beautiful Black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world. This is so overwhelming. I’ve been working for my whole life, since nine years old, and I can’t believe this happened. This is such a magical night. Thank you so much.”

She added, “I know my daughter is watching. Two daughters and my son, y’all are all watching. Congratulations, Blue. She won a Grammy tonight. I’m so proud of you, and I’m so honored to be your mommy, all of your mommies. Y’all are my babies. And I’m so proud of y’all. I love you so much, my rock. Enjoy your night. Thank you.”

Beyoncé Shared the Cutest Photos of Blue Ivy Wearing a Crown and Holding Her First Grammy https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-shared-the-cutest-photos-of-blue-ivy-wearing-a-crown-and-holding-her-first-grammy.html Thu, 18 Mar 2021 15:53:38 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-shared-the-cutest-photos-of-blue-ivy-wearing-a-crown-and-holding-her-first-grammy.html [ad_1]

Blue Ivy isn’t even 10 years old, and she’s already a Grammy winner. Are you surprised? I mean, her parents are Beyoncé and Jay-Z

On March 17, Queen Bey shared some photos and videos of her own record-breaking 28 Grammy wins and included a few shots of Blue. If you don’t know, the 9-year-old won her first Grammy this year for Best Music Video (she’s credited on “Brown Skin Girl”). In the pics, Blue is holding her Grammy and wearing a crown—and in another one, she’s drinking out of the Grammy. Icon behavior! Check them out here

Blue is now the second-youngest person to win a Grammy in history. Talk about bragging rights! She wasn’t at the Grammy Awards with her parents on March 14, but Beyoncé did give her a shout-out in her acceptance speech. “Thank you, guys, so much. Oh my God. I am so honored. I am so excited. Thank you, guys. As an artist, I believe it’s my job, and all of our jobs, to reflect the times. It has been such a difficult time, so I wanted to uplift, encourage, and celebrate all of the beautiful Black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world,” she said. “This is so overwhelming. I’m so proud of you, and I’m so honored to be your mommy, all of your mommies. Y’all are my babies. And I’m so proud of y’all. I love you so much, my rock. Enjoy your night. Thank you.”

No, thank you, Beyoncé.

Cardi B Laughs Off Candace Owens and Fox News Bashing Her ‘WAP’ Grammys Performance https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/cardi-b-laughs-off-candace-owens-and-fox-news-bashing-her-wap-grammys-performance.html Wed, 17 Mar 2021 11:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/cardi-b-laughs-off-candace-owens-and-fox-news-bashing-her-wap-grammys-performance.html [ad_1]

In case you missed it, Cardi B and Candace Owens are currently feuding on Twitter. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper and the conservative commenter began facing off after Owens appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News to bash Cardi’s “WAP” performance with Megan Thee Stallion at the 2021 Grammys

“This seems like an attack on American values, American traditions, and you’re actually actively trying to make children aspire to things that are grotesque,” Owens said. “We are celebrating perversity in America.”

This isn’t the first time “WAP,” which stands for “wet ass pussy,” has been criticized by conservatives offended by two women embracing their sexuality. But in true Cardi B style, she responded with a joke, tweeting, “We made Fox News guys!”

“Matter fact I’m just going to thank Candy,” she continued. “She put my performance on Fox News giving it more views that boosted the views on YouTube and is counting towards my streams and sales. STREAM UP AND WAP. REMEMBER GROWN PARENTS ONLY YOU CAN MONITOR WHAT YOUR KIDS WATCH NO1 ELSE.”

Owens responded, telling Cardi to “do better,” which set off a back-and-forth on Twitter. At one point Owens threatened to get her legal team involved after Cardi made claims about her husband, George Farmer. Later, Cardi quoted a tweet pointing out that all the discussion around “WAP” is a distraction from the recent hate crime shooting in Atlanta that left eight people, most of them Asian women, dead.

This story is still developing, but if you want to read through their entire exchange: Head to Cardi B’s Twitter page.

Harry Styles’ Clueless-Inspired Grammys Outfit Got Alicia Silverstone’s Seal of Approval https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/harry-styles-clueless-inspired-grammys-outfit-got-alicia-silverstones-seal-of-approval.html Tue, 16 Mar 2021 17:40:16 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/harry-styles-clueless-inspired-grammys-outfit-got-alicia-silverstones-seal-of-approval.html [ad_1]

No makeover montage needed; Harry Styles is already the best dressed kid in class! After he wore a yellow plaid suit jacket and purple feather boa to the Grammy Awards on Sunday, March 14, Clueless star Alicia Silverstone noticed his ensemble looked a bit like her wardrobe from the hit movie, and gave him a shout-out online.

“I am loving the #Clueless vibes @Harry_Styles !! Cher would be so honored (and totally approve!!) of this chic look. Congrats on your win at the #GRAMMYs last night!!! #WatermelonSugar” she wrote on Twitter, posting a three-panel collage featuring herself as Cher in her iconic yellow plaid school outfit, a publicity still for the movie in which she rocks a pink feather boa, and Styles on the Grammys red carpet in, well, a combination of the first two looks.

Later in the evening, Styles changed it up, wearing a black leather pantsuit (no shirt!) and green boa onstage. Perhaps taking his style cues this time from The Matrix?

Other than perhaps the red Alaia dress Cher wears to the party in the Valley, the yellow skirt suit has got to be the most recognizable ‘fit from Clueless. It’s the one she puts together via computer in the opening sequence, and sets the tone for her bold and confident aesthetic. With its eye-catching style, the movie inspired a fashion-based computer game, not to mention a spin-off TV show and, possibly, an upcoming mystery reboot

Costume designer Mona May revealed to Vogue that the iconic ensemble was actually “off-the-rack.” She elaborated, “We really wanted to do the plaid because it was the quintessential schoolgirl outfit. When I was shopping, I had some other suits from the mall and different stores. I had a blue one and a red one. The blue didn’t have the oomph. The red felt too risqué—it didn’t feel like Cher. I wasn’t sure about the yellow. It’s not a great color for blondes. But when Alicia put that on, we all went, ‘Oh my God, this is it.’ She looks like a ray of sun and the queen of school.”

Well, if that’s what Styles was going for, he certainly succeeded. Every other celebrity in attendance seemed to be crushing on him, which is why we crowned him the unofficial king of the evening. Just like Cher, he’s Mr. Popularity.

The 2021 Grammys Made Some Progress When It Comes to Diversity—But Is It Too Late? https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-2021-grammys-made-some-progress-when-it-comes-to-diversity-but-is-it-too-late.html Mon, 15 Mar 2021 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-2021-grammys-made-some-progress-when-it-comes-to-diversity-but-is-it-too-late.html [ad_1]

When I became an adult, I was surprised to realize award shows like the Grammys aren’t necessarily honoring the most talented singers, writers, and producers in the music industry. “Best” is a subjective term, I learned over time. And if the Recording Academy—the collection of musicians, producers, engineers, and other musical professionals who vote for the Grammys—isn’t diverse, how can we expect the nominees, and ultimately the winners, to reflect that as well? We can’t, and it’s a problem.

This isn’t a new issue, but there was added pressure on the Recording Academy ahead of this year’s Grammy Awards after the institution faced numerous accusations of racial bias—most prominently from The Weeknd. After the singer was noticeably snubbed from this year’s nominations, it led to increased scrutiny around the Grammys voting process and how it negatively impacts artists of color. The Weeknd even announced he’ll be boycotting the award show indefinitely because of it.

A lot of Black talent did receive nominations, including H.E.R, Megan Thee Stallion, Beyoncé, Roddy Ricch, and DaBaby. But getting a nomination isn’t the same as walking home with a trophy, and the Recording Academy has a history of overlooking rap and hip-hop music in the “big four” categories: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Album of the Year.

Case in point: In 2017, Beyoncé’s Lemonade lost Album of the Year to Adele’s 25; even Adele didn’t think she deserved the honor. “I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled, and I’m very grateful and gracious, but the artist of my life is Beyoncé,” she said in her speech. “The Lemonade album was just so monumental.”

Nicki Minaj recently reminded fans of when she was snubbed at the 2012 Grammys. “Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation,” she tweeted. “They gave it to the white man Bon Iver.”

Drake pointed out the biased aspect of the show in his 2019 Grammys acceptance speech after receiving Best Rap Song for “God’s Plan. “We play an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport,” he said. “This is a business where sometimes it’s up to a bunch of people that might not understand what a mixed-race kid from Canada might have to say or a fly Spanish girl from New York.”

Naya Rivera Wasn’t Included in the Grammys in Memoriam Tribute, and Fans Are Livid https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/naya-rivera-wasnt-included-in-the-grammys-in-memoriam-tribute-and-fans-are-livid.html Mon, 15 Mar 2021 16:09:55 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/naya-rivera-wasnt-included-in-the-grammys-in-memoriam-tribute-and-fans-are-livid.html [ad_1]

Naya Rivera fans are very upset at the 2021 Grammys

The annual music awards show went down on Sunday, March 14, and, as always, it included a tribute to the musicians and music industry members we lost in 2020. Noticeably absent from the segment was Rivera.

Rivera, of course, played Santana Lopez on Glee for many years, but she also released a few singles and an EP of her own. She died on July 8, 2020 in a drowning accident while boating with her son, Josey, who was unharmed.

Since then, her Glee costars have honored her memory with a holiday fundraiser, and many of her friends and collaborators have posted tributes to her talent and loving spirit. But when it came to the Grammys, there was no mention of her, even though she was technically a two-time nominee; the Glee cast received nominations in 2011 and 2012 for covers on the show. (The Grammys website only seems to count the first nomination but…still…she’s on the site!)

Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment that Rivera’s name was not included in the live telecast. Many think it was a “snub” that her name didn’t appear in the video played during the broadcast.

For what it’s worth, she is included in the full list of “tributes” available online; according to the Grammys site, all the names were printed in the official program, but only “some” were “highlighted” in the live video tribute. For comparison and context, after Glee star Cory Monteith died in 2013, he was included in the following year’s in memoriam on-air tribute…although his last name was misspelled.

If you’re a Naya Rivera fan looking to mourn and remember her in a more significant way, there is perhaps no better homage than her co-star Amber Riley’s incredible tribute.

Harry Styles Was Everyone’s Best Friend at the 2021 Grammys https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/harry-styles-was-everyones-best-friend-at-the-2021-grammys.html Mon, 15 Mar 2021 15:08:33 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/harry-styles-was-everyones-best-friend-at-the-2021-grammys.html [ad_1]

That charming British lad Harry is having yet another moment. No, not Prince Harry. No, not Harry Potter! Harry Styles, former One Direction member and current fashion-rock heartthrob, was the unofficial winner of the 2021 Grammys. Not only did he win Best Pop Solo Performance for “Watermelon Sugar,” he was also the peer-elected prince of the night, the guy everyone wanted to talk to. A star among stars.

Absent the usual audience, Styles still had fans swooning over him: his music industry colleagues. First of all, there was Lizzo, who pulled him aside the day of the ceremony for a photo shoot by the trailers, wrapping his purple feather boa around her neck and giving him bunny ears.

“HARRY WON A GRAMMY !!!! @harrystyles” she wrote. When Lizzo wants to be your best friend, you have officially entered charm city.

Then, there was his ex, Taylor Swift. Though the two have always appeared to be on pretty good terms–the breakup was eight years ago, after all–running into your former partner can always be a bit tricky. But according to what backstage cameras witnessed, their interaction was cordial and even friendly. We can’t hear what they’re saying, but isn’t 90% of human communication body language or something?

Swift also gave Styles a brief standing ovation after his performance. Supportive!

Speaking of supportive, it was a total love-fest between Styles and Record of The Year winner Billie Eilish. Fans quickly noticed that the two singers couldn’t take their eyes off each other’s respective performances. Is there any praise higher than rapt attention from another musician? And can we get a collab some time? Just thinking of the potential harmonies is already giving us chills.

The Grammys don’t have a Miss Congeniality award, but if they did, it would go to Harry Styles. The fan favorite, the MVP. And not a bad-looking bloke, actually.

BRB listening to “Watermelon Sugar” again.
