Sure, she’s got her driver’s license—but can this cowgirl parallel-park a horse? Teen pop queen Olivia Rodrigo rang in her 19th birthday on February 20 and celebrated a day later in a fun, fashionable pink ensemble that had just a hint of the Wild West spirit.

“Thank u for all the birthday luv! i am now 19!!!!!!! ?????” the Sour songwriter wrote on Instagram alongside some pictures from the party. Her cake was emblazoned (okay, frosted) with the words “I’m nineteen and I’m on fire,” a Lorde lyric, FYI.

Her pink silk crop top and skirt (which had a picture of a cake on it!) are from No Dress, and People noted that the sleeves are actually attached at the back. She also wore platform heels from No Dress and a pink sparkly “Birthday Girl” cowboy hat from, we assume, Party City.

Per People, friends like Iris Apatow were in attendance, who also took to Instagram to wish Rodrigo a happy B-day. “My Bestfriend!! My everything!! I’ll be arm and arm with you till the very end I love you a whole lot Olivia!? happy 19?,” wrote the youngest Apatow alongside a series of photos of the pair together through the years.

So much to celebrate! Next month Disney Plus will release Driving Home 2 U, a road-trip-based documentary about Rodrigo’s debut album and life as a performer. (Side question: Did we ever properly thank Avril “sk8r boi” Lavigne for popularizing the “spell it however you want” brand of song titles? Thank you, Avril!) Disney plus is also home to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, which stars Rodrigo, and to show she’s truly a Disney kid inside, she and her besties (including Iris, duh) recently visited the happiest place on earth. Oh, to be young!

The most glorious thing to happen during New York Fashion Week wasn’t the incredibly cool street style or the glamorous runway shows, but rather, the advancement of the Fexi agenda. 

Euphoria stars Angus Cloud and Maude Apatow attended a dinner to celebrate American designer Thom Browne, and sure enough, the internet burst into flames. The actors, who play Fezco and Lexi Howard respectively, have become pop culture’s latest fake It couple after audiences fell in love with their storyline in Euphoria‘s second season. 

Weeks ahead of the brand’s fall-winter 2022 show, which will be held in April, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, and friends of the house came together on Wednesday night in Thom Browne’s classic tartan print that debuted in 2006—a gray and navy colorway that’s recognized by the Tartan Registry of Scotland. Cloud, who starred in the brand’s preshow lookbook, wore a tailored suit, and his onscreen counterpart wore a pleated skirt, tights, and a mini dachshund purse.

We were crossing our fingers the entire week that they would be spotted together at some point during New York Fashion Week, and it worked: Cloud ate Flamin’ Hot Cheetos in the front row of Coach’s fall-winter 2022 with Megan Thee Stallion, while Apatow moderated a discussion with Rodarte’s designers. Honestly, the range is unmatched. 

Cloud previously told Glamour (and his Twitter followers) that he’s #FexiForLife, saying “Personally, I think [they’re] cool. I mean, they gonna do what they will. Hopefully, Lexi knows what she’s getting into.”

While our favorite slow-burn onscreen romance hasn’t happened quite yet, we can fantasize about a high-fashion version of Fexi taking New York Fashion Week by storm in a parallel universe.

Model Sofía Jirau just made history as lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret continues its ongoing initiative to be more inclusive. 

The 24-year-old Puerto Rican model celebrated her milestone on Instagram, writing in Spanish, per NBC News, “One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret. I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome!”

However, some concerns about Jirau’s casting were raised on social media as well. On a NBC News Instagram post with the news, one user wrote, “This honestly seems like more of an exploitation to advertise a brand through a guise of inclusivity rather than something truly genuine and positively motivated.” Another added, “People with Downs have been taken advantage of in the past, sexually. People have been sent to jail for it. Posing in lingerie is meant to arouse the prospective buyer. So it FEELS weird… I don’t know this girl. I don’t know her capacity. So I’ll make a personal decision to avoid these ads, and I’ll pray that she’s well and happy.” But in the same comments section, others pointed out that Jirau is an adult and that having Down syndrome does not exclude a person from being a sexual being. “Showing concern for someone you don’t know, equating their abilities to your anecdotal experiences with [people with Down syndrome] is a disingenuous concern,” wrote one commenter. 

Per Sofía Jirau’s website, she started modeling in 2019 when she was 23. Since, she’s modeled at New York Fashion Week and at San Juan Moda in Puerto Rico, among others. Jirau herself says she has dreamed of being a model her whole life. “When I was little, I looked myself in the mirror and said, ‘I’m going to be a model and a businesswoman,’” she told People during an interview at New York Fashion Week in 2020. She also told the outlet that Jennifer Lopez is her fashion icon. “I want to meet Jennifer Lopez. I like how she dresses and how she is. I love all of her clothes,” she said. “I love her songs, her CDs, her photos. Everything.”

Jirau is one of 18 women who modeled for the Victoria’s Secret Love Cloud collection, a new range of bra and panties made for all-day comfort. Per a statement from Victoria’s Secret, “The collection is modeled by 18 dynamic women, reinforcing Victoria’s Secret’s commitment to welcoming and celebrating all women.” The diverse roster of models includes a set medic and Pilates professional, a pregnant woman, and Jirau. 

Rihanna may be killing the maternity fashion game right now, but that doesn’t mean it comes easy.

While attending the Fenty Beauty Universe Event in Los Angeles with her boyfriend A$AP Rocky on February 11, the “Diamonds” singer revealed that dressing while pregnant has presented “a challenge.” 

Still, it’s not without its perks. “I like it. I’m enjoying it,” Rihanna told People. “I’m enjoying not having to worry about covering up my tummy. If I feel a little chubby, it’s like, whatever! It’s a baby!”

She continued, “Right now, being pregnant, some days you just feel like, ‘Ugh, I just want to lay here on this couch all day.’ But when you put on a little face and a little lipstick, you transform. You put some clothes on, and it’s like, when you look good, you feel good. I’ve heard that for a very long time, but it’s true. It really can get you up off that couch and make you feel like a bad bitch.”

Rihanna may have utilized oversized coats and fashion staples while she was keeping her pregnancy a secret, that certainly stopped when she announced she was expecting her first child in late January. Rihanna came out swinging with a street-style photoshoot, wearing an open, hot pink vintage Chanel coat from the label’s fall-winter 1996 show by the late creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Her bare bump was draped in jewels and body chains. 

Since then it’s been look after look after look. From this low-rise jeans and trucker hat combo to this strappy monochrome ensemble. If you didn’t think it could get much more see-through than that, Rihanna attended the Fenty Beauty Universe Event in a completely shredded, glittery ensemble by The Attico, per Fashionista. We knew Rihanna’s maternity style would be groundbreaking, but we weren’t expecting this. The singer, makeup mogul, National Hero of Barbados, and soon-to-be mother just took maternity fashion to an Ashton Kutcher in 2004 level. But it’s Rihanna, so she made it work in a way no one else could.

The billionaire multi-hyphenate wore an outfit straight out of the early 2000s on Wednesday, February 9 for dinner out in Los Angeles. Rihanna wore a boho style brown tie-front crop top with ruffle details, low-rise jeans, and a long patchwork fur coat that incorporates denim and animal prints. Rihanna paired the look with layered necklaces and strappy snakeskin heels, which she tucked the hem of her jeans into for a casual jogger-style look. As if the outfit could not get any more early aughts, Rihanna topped off the ‘fit with a trucker hat. (Now I’m picturing her hosting a season of MTV’s Punk’d and loving the image.) In late January, Rihanna announced her pregnancy via a street-style photoshoot alongside her bf A$AP Rocky. The expecting couple was shot by photographer Miles Diggs during a weekend stroll in Harlem, where A$AP Rocky is from. For the announcement, RiRi naturally had to wear something iconic, dramatic, and unexpected…so she went for a knee-length hot pink vintage Chanel coat from the label’s Fall/Winter 1996 show by the late creative director Karl Lagerfeld. She accessorized with glittering waist belts and jeweled body chains to make her baby bump the true centerpiece. 

Rihanna’s style always features an unexpected twist, and her pregnancy announcement outfit was no expectation. She paired an elegant Chanel coat with a pair of ripped light-wash jeans. And Just Like That…, the new Sex and the City series from HBO Max, has fans defending Steve and ogling Manhattan real estate like it’s 1999 all over again. And perhaps more important than the sex, the city, or the celebrity is the style. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are older and wealthier. Their closets are bigger, and their hips more brittle. What would the gals wear 18 years after the original series’ final episode? Nancy Pelosi-esque monochrome coats? Tie-dyed sweat suits? Eileen Fisher?

“Coming out of the pandemic and quarantine, I really didn’t want to see Charlotte drop off the kids at school in athleisure,” Molly Rogers, the costume designer for the series along with Danny Santiago, told Glamour. “The content of the show is very real. They’re dealing with marriages and deaths. I wanted the clothes to be as uplifting—give people eye candy like the original show always did.” Rogers laughs. “That incensed some people!”

Rogers could easily be a beloved character on And Just Like That. She worked on Sex and the City since the original series’ early days alongside original costume designer Patricia Field, who Rogers also joined on The Devil Wears Prada and Ugly Betty. Describing the AJLT costume department, Rogers told Glamour, “We had two things: Ice cream and vodka.” A scene where Nixon’s outfit matched a tablecloth drove her “cuckoo-nuts.” And when AJLT showrunner Michael Patrick King nixed her idea for Carrie to wear a hat in the finale episode, Rogers wrote him a poem that begins, “Where is his body? They ask me.” (She jokes that she’s going to get revenge with a hat line called, “And Just Like Hat.”)

Emily is just as willing to mention things about where she’s from, and they joke about her as much as things are joked about her coworkers or the way of life there. I know that in this industry, having been in it, having grown up in it, you know that not everyone’s going to love what you do all the time.”

While it was unexpected, and Collins felt—and still feels—the need to defend the series, she also wasn’t about to turn a blind eye to the criticism. Having been born into the business (her father is legendary Genesis frontman Phil Collins) and a mainstay since starring as Sandra Bullock’s daughter in The Blind Side, she has also felt a responsibility to learn and be open to feedback. So when the criticism started rolling in, she wanted to listen.

That meant having Emily embrace authentic French culture instead of just showing the typical Instagrammable tourist spots. In season two—out December 22—Emily starts attending French class and making a real attempt at learning the language, both spoken and unspoken. “You really go into different areas of the city, and see Emily trying a little harder and making an effort in her new city. She’s really leaning into the environment and allowing herself to embrace it and become one with it.”

But by no means does that translate to a grittier, less colorful version of Emily in Paris. It’s still very much the same show you love—or love to pick on—from before. “It’s a heightened version of this world because it’s a comedy,” Collins emphasizes. “And it’s a Darren Star–produced, created, colorful, bright, romantic version of what the story would be.”
