Glamour: There is such rising population of young Latinas here in the United States, but we didn’t really grow up seeing ourselves in media. As a part of Encanto, you’re giving back to those younger girls who never really saw themselves—how is that?

Carolina Gaitán: I love that we’re talking about this. We’re talking about representation. We’re talking about identification. We’re talking about finally telling a different story about our Latino community, but specifically, our Colombian community. In the movie it’s about multiracial issues and families. It’s a really good moment for Latinos to express what we really are, and Encanto does this beautifully. We’re talking about our stories, our gastronomy, our strong women leading our society. Being a part of that and exposing that side to people is so important.

What was the story behind your audition?

It was crazy. There’s so many crazy stories behind my audition, I don’t know where to start. I was in L.A. to go to the Disney studios in Burbank, and I was so nervous. I still have the parking ticket because I couldn’t believe that I was actually there, doing a casting for an audition for a Disney movie. That alone was a dream come true. After my audition went well, I had the chance to meet Lin-Manuel, who I actually asked for a selfie four years earlier when I went to New York because I wanted to see Hamilton. Four years after, in my callback, the directors told me that Lin-Manuel was going to be a part of the movie to do the music, and they were telling me that he did research and went to Colombia to visit—and we were on the same flight from Bogotá to New York.

Oh, my gosh, that’s crazy! It’s fate.

So when I had my callback, I had the chance to meet Lin-Manuel, and he was like, “I cannot believe that. Let me see the picture.” I showed him the picture and was like, “Oh, my god, this was so meant to be!” So I had the chance to talk about the movie with him over coffee in a drama book store in New York. There’s so much magic behind all of this.

Let’s talk about “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” I mean, it’s everywhere. For people who may have been born in the United States or had no idea about Latin culture, they’re singing your song at the gym or walking down the street right now.

I know, it’’ crazy. When I was in L.A., I remember saying I was Colombian and people were like, “Mexico? Is it the same?” It was like that. For me, there’s two things that have been really important and beautiful: Finally, we can talk about Colombia and that the world knows our story—our music, our names, our country, our food. I will always remember when I was living in L.A., someone told me, “Caro, it’s going to be really difficult here for you.” I didn’t understand why. It’s because I had an accent and because I didn’t look like a Latina—I’m white. I didn’t understand, because, how am I supposed to look? We’re all so different and multiracial. We’re not a stereotype. With Encanto, it’s beautiful to finally express that in the best way.

All the New Disney Movies Coming Out in 2022 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/all-the-new-disney-movies-coming-out-in-2022.html Sat, 01 Jan 2022 16:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/all-the-new-disney-movies-coming-out-in-2022.html [ad_1]

The roster of new Disney movies 2022 will bring us is spectacular—and there really is something for everyone.

After the blink of the eye that was 2021, 2022 is creeping up on us out of seemingly nowhere following a holiday season that passed by quicker than ever. But fortunately, 2022 has a lot to look forward to in the movie-sphere for everyone, from adults to teens to kids

There are a plethora of new Disney movies coming out in 2022, from new Disney animated movies to live-action versions of classics, to new movies on Disney Plus. It seems like more titles are coming out in 2022 than 2020 and 2021 combined, which makes sense after a couple of years of release and filming delays. It seems this is finally a year when several anticipated Disney movies will finally see the light of day (errr, I mean, see a dark theater and our eyeballs?).

Some highlights include huge new movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the follow-up to 2016’s Doctor Strange that will also continue Wanda Maximoff’s story that we saw in 2020’s Disney Plus show WandaVision, comes out in May. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the Manhattan-based wizard, and iconic director Sam Raimi, dean of the superhero and horror genres, is at the helm. It comes out on May 6, hopefully, since it’s been pushed back a few times. Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taiki Waititi, is expected in 2022, as well is the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever.

Another new Disney movie coming out in 2022 is a sequel to one of the best Disney movies of all time. In fall 2022 we’ll be blessed with Hocus Pocus 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Halloween classic from 1993. The original cast, including Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, will return.

Essentially, there are a lot of new Disney movies to look forward to in 2022 featuring Scarlet Witch’s antics, Chris Hemsworth’s sculpted abs, Bette Midler’s witch teeth, and more. Oh, and did we mention the Cheaper by the Dozen remake starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff? Or Chris Evans as the real man the Buzz Lightyear toy was inspired by in Lightyear? We’re looking forward to those too.

Here are all the new Disney movies 2022 has to offer:

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (January 28)

The weirdly popular Ice Age franchise (no one talks about it, everyone’s seen it?) continues, and this time it’s about possums. Plus our old favorite mammoths and sabertooths and Sid the Sloth return for this upcoming Disney movie.

Content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Sneakerella (February 18)

Everyone clowning on this movie can honestly take several seats, because the 2000s Disney Channel Original Movie vibes here are off the charts. It’s giving Jump In, it’s giving Cheetah Girls, it’s giving Camp Rock. It’s gender-swapped Cinderella set on the streets of New York, where glass slippers are out and limited edition kicks are in. The tweens are gonna go nuts.

Content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Turning Red (March 11)

What if The Hulk were a teenage girl and instead of turning into a big green monster, she turned into a giant cuddly red panda? This is the basic premise of Pixar’s latest coming-of-age tale, which features boy band music and plenty of humor and heart. Since the new Disney Pixar movies have been, well, a little strange of late (Soul was for kids?), it’s nice to see something so clearly in the company’s wheelhouse.

Content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Cheaper by the Dozen (March)

Another remake of the classic family flick? Yup. This time starring Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union as the overwhelmed parents, with Black-ish creator Kenya Barris cowriting the script. Hopefully, this one will be more iconic than the 2003 adaptation which, despite starring Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff, and Ashton Kutcher (it was 2003, okay?!), is a fleeting memory. Yeah, it spawned a sequel, but when was the last time someone quoted it in conversation or online? Exactly.

Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers (Spring)

Taking the Alvin and the Chipmunks approach, this feature film will blend live-action with CGI animation to bring the Rescue Rangers—voiced by Andy Samberg and John Mulaney—to life.

Better Nate Than Never (Spring)

Tim Federle’s beloved book, an ode to the theater kid in all of us, is soon to be a major motion picture starring everyone’s favorite friend Lisa Kudrow, actual Broadway star Norbert Leo Butz, and Gen Z heartbreaker Joshua Bassett.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6)

Phase Four this, Phase Four that, the point is, Sam Raimi is once again at the helm of a superhero flick, and we get more Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch!

57 Kids Christmas Movies That Will Keep You Entertained Too https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/57-kids-christmas-movies-that-will-keep-you-entertained-too.html Wed, 17 Nov 2021 12:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/57-kids-christmas-movies-that-will-keep-you-entertained-too.html [ad_1]

Kids Christmas movies are as key of an ingredient to holiday magic as cinnamon or eggnog. If your families are anything like ours, Christmas means lots of time bundled up in the living room, sipping hot chocolate, working on a puzzle, and definitely watching new Christmas movies. And since your cousin is bringing her kids, those movies need to be as all-ages as possible.

That’s why we compiled this list of the best family Christmas movies you can stream all season long, ranging from the truly childish (Mikey’s Christmas Carol) to the slightly scary (Home Alone) to the teens-and-up category (Love, Actually). There are about a dozen versions of A Christmas Carol on this list, and weirdly, almost as many stories about talking dogs. But most of all, a ton of love, a ton of holiday cheer, and a ton of options, even if you don’t have Disney Plus.

So pull on your comfiest socks, put a log on the fireplace, and get ready to ring in the Christmas cheer with these kids Christmas movies!

For Shoba Narayan, Playing Princess Jasmine Is About Honoring Brown Girls Like Her https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/for-shoba-narayan-playing-princess-jasmine-is-about-honoring-brown-girls-like-her.html Fri, 24 Sep 2021 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/for-shoba-narayan-playing-princess-jasmine-is-about-honoring-brown-girls-like-her.html [ad_1]

Fast-forward a few years to 2017, when she was an understudy in the Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. When she finally stepped into the lead role, the pressure to be good was enormous—it was the first time in more than 10 years that a South Asian woman had a lead role on Broadway.

“Personally, I didn’t have anyone to look to when I was growing up,” she says. There weren’t brown girls getting kissed in the rain on movie sets or singing in big dresses on Broadway stages. The closest thing for a ’90s kid was Aladdin’s Princess Jasmine, a cartoon, an improbably proportioned fictional character.

“To have someone who was strong, could sing, was beautiful, desirable, and brave, wanted to question authority and potentially rule a kingdom…I wanted to be her,” Narayan says. She grew up belting “A Whole New World” in the family room, and even grew her hair out to match the character. “She was the only thing that I had to relate to,” says Narayan. “So she meant a lot to me.”

When the pandemic closed down Broadway, Narayan was performing in Wicked on Broadway. It was full-circle for the onetime Dorothy portrayer—she was playing Nessarose, the future Wicked Witch of the East. When the theater turned dark, Narayan returned her sparkly slippers. Months later, she got a call from her agent. Suddenly she was auditioning for her dream role over Zoom. Think you’ve had a rough virtual meeting? You’ve never had to pretend to be riding on a magic carpet while in gallery mode.

But she got the part. She’ll be climbing very, very, carefully aboard a carpet that will whisk her high into the air, where she’ll sing an iconic song, for a rapt audience. She imagines her body and her voice floating in that big, empty space, the “gasps and tears and cheers” of the audience.

Whenever she plays a big role, Narayan says, she hears from people in the South Asian community. But she also hears from people of all different minorities. “They see someone like me being the lead in the show, portraying a character who is strong and desirable and the center of the story,” she says. “I think they all feel seen and that they’re represented onstage.”

Soon she’ll be sharing her gifts with audiences who haven’t seen a live performance in years. There will be laughter, fist pumps, rapturous applause.

Shoba Narayan will be there. And she’ll be good.

Sophia Di Martino’s Costume in ‘Loki’ Has an Incredible Breastfeeding Detail https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/sophia-di-martinos-costume-in-loki-has-an-incredible-breastfeeding-detail.html Fri, 02 Jul 2021 14:01:04 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/sophia-di-martinos-costume-in-loki-has-an-incredible-breastfeeding-detail.html [ad_1]

We’re not sure what the maternity leave policy is at the TVA (probably not great, right? They’re so old-fashioned), but we love the way Loki star Sophia Di Martino’s costume accommodates her breastfeeding schedule.

If you haven’t been watching the latest Marvel series on Disney+, Di Martino plays The Variant, a.k.a. Sylvia, a.k.a. female Loki, a goddess of mischief and general badass who (spoiler) might be regular Loki’s one true love? As such, she wears a feminine version of Tom Hiddleston’s iconic green leather suit and cape, complete with a horned golden crown. But it’s the part of the costume we don’t see onscreen that matters most.

On July 1, Di Martino revealed that Christine Wada, who designed the costumes for the show and also worked on Bridesmaids (iconic!), included “concealed zippers” in her outfit so she could breastfeed and pump breast milk without taking her entire outfit off. Posting a picture of herself in the undergarment part of her costume, plus her hands-free breast pump, Di Martino wrote, “It’s not easy being a working Mama (Understatement!) #christinewada designed Sylvie’s costume and had the genius idea of adding concealed zippers for easy access so that I could use my hands-free @elvie pumps easily (pictured) and nurse my baby between takes.”

Clever but also important. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between feeding their kids and following their passions. As Di Martino wrote, “It’s little (big) things like this that made it possible for me to do my job AND be a parent. I’m forever grateful ?.”

Di Martino’s Instagram was quickly flooded with supportive messages, many from other working moms. It also went viral on Twitter, where fans praised the show while pointing out that considerations like this should be standard, not exceptional.

Di Martino auditioned for the part of Sylvia while pregnant and completed her stunt training just a few months postpartum, reports BuzzFeed. Literal goddess!

‘West Side Story’ Star Rachel Zegler Will Play Snow White in Disney’s Live-Action Remake https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/west-side-story-star-rachel-zegler-will-play-snow-white-in-disneys-live-action-remake.html Wed, 23 Jun 2021 13:59:02 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/west-side-story-star-rachel-zegler-will-play-snow-white-in-disneys-live-action-remake.html [ad_1]

Disney has done it again: A Snow White live-action movie is coming to our screens. Here’s what we know so far about the film:

Rachel Zegler will play Snow White. The West Side Story actor shared the news to her personal Instagram account on June 22, writing “Well… hello to a dream come true. ?✨.”

The Amazing Spider-Man and 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb will helm the project. “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale,” he said in a statement about Zegler’s casting, per Deadline.

The West Side Story movie, directed by Steven Spielberg hits theaters December 10. It stars Zegler as Maria, Ansel Elgort as Tony, and Ariana DeBose as Anita. Spielberg told Vanity Fair about his adaptation, “This story is not only a product of its time, but that time has returned, and it’s returned with a kind of social fury. I really wanted to tell that Puerto Rican, Nuyorican experience of basically the migration to this country and the struggle to make a living, and to have children, and to battle against the obstacles of xenophobia and racial prejudice.”

Disney execs were reportedly “blown away” by Zegler’s performance in the movie.

The movie will include original music. Songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who worked on La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen, will write new music for the film. O.G. songs like “Heigh-Ho,” “Someday My Prince Will Come,” and “Whistle While You Work” will also appear in the film.

Production will begin in 2022. Disney has yet to announce a release date or whether it will premiere on Disney+ or in theaters. Or both!

We’ll update this post with more details as they come in.

Olivia Rodrigo Plays a Terrifying Cheerleader in Her New Video, and Fans Are Obsessed https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/olivia-rodrigo-plays-a-terrifying-cheerleader-in-her-new-video-and-fans-are-obsessed.html Fri, 14 May 2021 12:47:08 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/olivia-rodrigo-plays-a-terrifying-cheerleader-in-her-new-video-and-fans-are-obsessed.html [ad_1]

The breakup banger of the summer has arrived, y’all, and it’s “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo. The “drivers license” singer just released the third single off her upcoming debut album, Sour, and it’s a prickly pop anthem sure to resonate with anyone whose ex moved on a little too quickly.

In the video, Rodrigo plays a pouty cheerleader having a very bad day. Sick of pretending to be happy in the wake of a split, she puts on latex gloves and picks up a jug of gasoline (plus a snack for the road!) and sets her bedroom ablaze so she can stop crying on the floor. Then, she takes off into the woods and escapes via lake, her eyes glowing demonic red, in a moment reminiscent of Jennifer’s Body. The video is directed by Petra Collins, the cool-girl actor/photographer who will soon helm her first feature film, Spiral, starring Selena Gomez.

Some of the lyrics in “good 4 u” are honestly pretty biting, like the lines “And good for you, I guess that you’ve been workin’ on yourself, I guess that therapist I found for you, she really helped, Now you can be a better man for your brand new girl.” Ouch, Liv!

Fans online are honestly psyched the teen star delivered something upbeat—not that her first, moodier offerings were bad, but sometimes we wanna head-bang, you know? The track is drawing comparisons to early Paramore-esque, punk-infused anthems with scream-along choruses.

One fan compared the song to Rodrigo‘s major inspiration, Taylor Swift, contrasting lines from the two artists’ songs: “when Olivia Rodrigo said ‘Good for you, you’re doing great out there without me, baby, God, I wish that I could do that’ and Taylor Swift said ‘It takes everything in me just to get up each day, but it’s wonderful to see that you’re okay.’”

Rodrigo is set to be the musical guest on the next episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Keegan-Michael Key. We can only hope she gives us a taste of “good 4 u” live…but leaves the flames at home.

Kathryn Hahn Wants Every Woman to Know That Aging Is Power https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kathryn-hahn-wants-every-woman-to-know-that-aging-is-power.html Mon, 12 Apr 2021 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kathryn-hahn-wants-every-woman-to-know-that-aging-is-power.html [ad_1]

Kathryn Hahn makes people happy. Seeing her onscreen feels like noticing an old friend’s name in your unread texts, or getting a surprise package in the mail—it’s just an instant glow of endorphins. She has a unique effect, different from any other celebrity. It’s as if she’s a human conductor of warmth and hopefulness. We never know what kind of character to expect, but we know how she will make us feel.

During the pandemic, the 47-year-old actor unwittingly became a coping mechanism for millions of people as Agnes (or, spoiler, malevolent witch Agatha Harkness) in WandaVision on Disney Plus. Fans latched onto her performance—in one short series, she became a sitcom star, a Billboard-charting singer, a Marvel villain, and a meme. For longtime fans of Hahn, it felt like the world was finally getting to know our favorite person—Parks and Recreation’s soulless, sparkling political consultant, the vulnerable Rabbi Raquel of Transparent, the hot mess of Bad Moms, the sexually powerful suburbanite on Mrs. Fletcher.

Such is the reach of Disney, the caliber of WandaVision, the charisma of Kathryn—the whole world was enchanted. We copied her wink, we sang along with her theme song, we were transfixed by her giant, lustrous hair. She made us feel happy.

What makes Kathryn Hahn happy? Since the WandaVision finale, fans have been demanding answers—does she want her character to come back in a spinoff? (She’s said she would love it.) Is she bummed out to reach new heights of celebrity during a pandemic? (She’s sad not to be able to meet fans, but she’s enjoying her kids, dogs, and foster kittens.) Doesn’t she deserve her own starring role? (She’s already had several, and she should have even more!)

But how does the woman who always entertains us entertain herself? For the latest installment of Glamour’s Your Fave’s Faves, she told us the books, TV shows, lip balms, and WandaVision-style looks she loves most. And in a moment of wide-eyed, open-hearted, classic Kathryn Hahn generosity, she shared her philosophy on the beauty of aging as a woman.

What people should watch if they want to see some of my best work

I love I Love Dick. I’m very proud of that show. I think it was before its time in a lot of ways, and not a lot of people have seen it. It’s Kevin Bacon and Griffin Dunne and myself and Roberta Colindrez—it’s a fabulous cast, and it’s based on a fabulous piece of writing.

Where I get my confidence

It is so ironic because there are moments when I feel very confident and moments when I feel not confident at all. I wish I could have told this to my younger self: The older I have gotten, the more it feels like a space shuttle—you know how a space shuttle just starts to shed its stuff as it’s going into outer space, and you’re just left with a fiery ball? That’s what it feels like to get older. It’s kind of thrilling to me, and I wish every young woman knew that. That it just boils to the essentials. Instead of feeling invisible, which is what I thought it would feel like, it’s more essential and more hot. It’s really exciting. It feels like there’s a very—ironically—fertile chapter ahead.

The last great book I read

Normal People and Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney. I did both of them at the same time. She’s amazing.

“Normal People” by Sally Rooney

“Conversations With Friends” by Sally Rooney

My favorite TV shows to binge-watch right now

I loved Unorthodox and I Can’t Get You Out of My Head, which is the Adam Curtis documentary series on YouTube. It’s produced by the BBC, and it’s extraordinary. I highly recommend.

Favorite household product

I hate cleaning but have to have a clean space for my mental health. We have two rescue dogs, we’re fostering kittens, and we have two kids. The longer we’ve spent inside in this pandemic, the more I’ll see buildup and grime, especially in my shower. I’ve fallen in love with the bathroom cleaner and the multipurpose cleaner from 9 Elements. I was so sick of the smell of bleach, and this smells delicious. It’s like essential oils, lemon, and eucalyptus; it’s also mostly plant-based, and it was created by two women scientists. This is what I’ve been using in my bathroom—it really cuts through the hard water and scum that’s on your shower head. [Editor’s note: Hahn is partnering with P&G and 9 Elements.

9 Elements Lemon Bathroom Cleaner (3-Pack)

9 Elements Eucalyptus Laundry Detergent (2-Pack)

The products that keep my hair healthy

It’s expensive, but I really love Moroccanoil on the ends. I have to have it. And then as a treat I will use the Leonor Greyl hair mask; I’ll just put it in a bun, leave it in all day long, and then rinse it out at the end of the day.

Leonor Greyl Masque Quintessence

How I cleared my adult acne

It was cystic and would be once a month hormonally, a big old honker. You could tell the time by the shadow it was causing on my face. It was a sundial! So I did a low, low dose of Accutane for about a half a year, and it really knocked it out. It was not fun, but it really knocked it out. For dryness [which can be a side effect of Accutane], I used By Terry Lip Balm, which is not inexpensive, but it really saved my lips. And then EltaMD PM face cream was helpful.

EltaMD PM Therapy Facial Moisturizer

My favorite WandaVision look

Oh, the ’80s, for sure.

The product my family always wants to steal

This kind of stuff [gesturing at her makeup], I never wear in my real life. My daughter loves a lipstick—she’s not allowed to wear it out ever, but she loves to try it on, to play around. She likes the art of it, but only for fun. I’m really enjoying what I’m wearing now; it’s by a brand called 19/99, it’s a lip liner worn as a lipstick. I’m really into an orangey lip liner.

19/99 Precision Colour Pencil

My most woo-woo wellness ritual

Every Sunday, with a couple of friends, we have something called Stretch Church. It’s just a Zoom with this awesome teacher, but we try to commit to it every week, and I look forward to it like a massage. We try to open up, stretch-wise, and it’s been really helpful.

The Best ‘90s TV Shows Available to Stream Right Now (You’re Welcome) https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-best-90s-tv-shows-available-to-stream-right-now-youre-welcome.html Wed, 07 Apr 2021 21:00:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/the-best-90s-tv-shows-available-to-stream-right-now-youre-welcome.html [ad_1]

Tell me you weren’t stoked when it was announced The Nanny was coming to HBO Max. There’s just something about ’90s TV shows that just hit different.

While many suggest the Golden Age of Television was marked by The Sopranos in 1999, leading to shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and a slew of other prestige dramas, I would like to suggest we start crediting every single show that hit the screen from 1990-1999 for being truly unforgettable.

The ’90s were a time of witches and vampires (Sabrina, Buffy, Angel, Charmed), a time of peak sketch comedy (All That, The Amanda Show, Mr. Show), and a time of sitcoms that are simply unmatched (Full House, Boy Meets World, Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Living Single, and too many more).

Glamour has rounded up 51 of the best ‘90s TV shows that are available to stream right now. You’re welcome.

35 Disney Movies That Stand the Test of Time https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/35-disney-movies-that-stand-the-test-of-time.html Mon, 29 Mar 2021 19:30:00 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/35-disney-movies-that-stand-the-test-of-time.html [ad_1]

Picking the best Disney movies is a lot like choosing your favorite ice cream flavor: It’s difficult, and there really is no wrong answer. After all, there’s a reason these films have endured for so many years—a reason that it doesn’t matter whether you were born in 1960 or 2000, you still had a formative screening of Cinderella. Disney movies are the closest thing we have to magic, and their effects transcend gender and generation. They still move you, whether you’re 5 or 45, and they’re constantly evolving.

More advanced technology has blessed us with even more visually dazzling Disney films: Pixar creations like Finding Nemo and Toy Story. In more recent years, stunning live-action retellings of the best Disney movies have dominated the box office. But even with more razzle-dazzle, the crux of the best Disney movies is always the same: Each one centers on the intense desire to be one’s true self, to find love, and to find home.

I think these 35 movies—below, in no particular order—are the best examples of exactly that.
