Sophie Turner is arguably known for two things: her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and her long, icy blonde hair. However, the actor decided to ditch her signature blonde mane sometime last year for a deep red, which she’s just brightened up even more for a fresh candy apple shade. Turner was seen sporting the new hair color while walking around Los Angeles with husband Joe Jonas on February 16.

Contrary to the approach of most celebrities, Turner did not take to Instagram to share her latest hair color transformation. Red is not exactly a new look for the actor, and she was seen with a deeper, more copper-toned hue than what we’re seeing in these recent photos just last month. Case in point: an advertisement for a Louis Vuitton watch that she shared via Instagram on January 14. Three months prior to the debut of the advertisement, the actor posted another photo of herself showing off her dark red head of hair.

According to colorists that Allure has previously spoken to, wearing various hues of red and dark brown simultaneously is expected to be the primary way in which red will be worn this year. Known as chocolate cherry, this hair color plays with a variety of reds, such as rose and copper, but “rich brown” serves “as the background color,” says Lorena Martinez of Maxine Salon. Though Turner’s hair is a bit brighter than these trend predictions, maybe she knows something we don’t—or she’s starting a fiery new trend all on her own.

The reasons for Turner’s hair color transformation are unclear. With the arrival of spring only a month away, perhaps she’s simply looking to start off the new season with a bright, fresh look.

You Probably Missed the Braided Heart Detail on Tia Mowry’s High Ponytail https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/you-probably-missed-the-braided-heart-detail-on-tia-mowrys-high-ponytail.html Thu, 17 Feb 2022 17:47:39 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/you-probably-missed-the-braided-heart-detail-on-tia-mowrys-high-ponytail.html [ad_1]

If you haven’t been following Tia Mowry-Hardrict on Instagram or TikTok, we assure you that you’re missing out on some quality content. The Game star loves to share food recipes, post candid photos and videos of her family, and remind everyone that she’s a baddie with fabulous outfits and an eye for fun video transitions. But it’s not just her personal style that is A1—we’re obsessed with all of her hair choices too, especially her braided styles. Case in point: this gorgeous braided ponytail with a heart-shaped cornrow detail she wore for Valentine’s Day.

Mowry-Hardrict shared the new hairstyle in an Instagram carousel, showing how she celebrated the holiday. In the first photo, the Sister, Sister actor poses alongside her husband, showing off every inch of her high ponytail, created by hairstylist Marquita Lynch. The second photo in the carousel, a selfie, gives us a closer look at all the details of the front half of the look.

This braid is full of texture, boasting curls at the tip and coiled wisps sticking out through the length of the ponytail. As for the base, Lynch wrapped a smaller plait and golden chain around it to lend an extra helping of polish to the overall look. But that’s not the only detail we’re loving about this hairstyle. There’s another surprise when Mowry-Hardrict turns her head: Lynch braided the actor’s hair into a large heart cornrow that connects to a plait looping from the nape of her neck to the base of the ponytail.

Though she wore this hairstyle for Valentine’s Day, it’s too cute to wear it only for that holiday. We’ve been seeing more and more braided looks with heart details, and Mowry-Hardrict shows another way to try the trend.

And with that, we’ll be on standby until she switches up her hair again—we have no doubt we’ll be fawning over the next look too.

Turns Out Sydney Sweeney Used to Be Brunette With Bangs https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/turns-out-sydney-sweeney-used-to-be-brunette-with-bangs.html Fri, 11 Feb 2022 21:41:38 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/turns-out-sydney-sweeney-used-to-be-brunette-with-bangs.html [ad_1]

Sydney Sweeney is as almost as well known for her bright blonde hair as she is for her acting chops, so we were surprised to learn that blonde wasn’t always her signature look

Last year, tweets surfaced showing the Euphoria actress with deep brunette hair, and a pair of heavy blunt bangs. Based on the timeline of these photos—which a recent beauty evolution by Nylon revealed would be around 2013-2014—and the Tumblr vibes they give off, we would guess her look was heavily inspired by Alexa Chung or Zooey Deschanel.

According to Sweeney, there’s a reason most of us don’t know her brunette era even exists in the first place—she’s not a fan of it herself. She replied to the fan account with a tweet that simply said “This was a stage I’d like to forget.” And who could blame her? High school was hard for most of us, even if it wasn’t Euphoria-levels of depressing.

Sweeney recently opened up about the behind-the-scenes of filming Euphoria, and gave some content to what some fans are calling “excessive” topless scenes.  “Sam is amazing,” she said, per BuzzFeed, praising series creator Sam Levinson. “There are moments [in the script] where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here’…. He was like, ‘Okay, we don’t need it.’”

Sweeney explained, “I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show. When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.” Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. “I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting…. I didn’t feel comfortable with my castmate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it,” Sweeney recalled of filming intimate scenes in other projects, adding that in those situations she “didn’t feel like [she] was able to speak up.”

She also pointed out the double standard applied to male and female actors with regard to onscreen nudity, saying there’s a “stigma against actresses who get naked onscreen” and that “when a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise, but the moment a girl does it, it’s completely different.”

Beyoncé Just Got a Blunt Bob With Bangs, and She Looks So Good https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-just-got-a-blunt-bob-with-bangs-and-she-looks-so-good.html Mon, 07 Feb 2022 19:47:45 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/beyonce-just-got-a-blunt-bob-with-bangs-and-she-looks-so-good.html [ad_1]

Throughout the years Beyoncé has been loyal to her long, blonde-highlighted hair. Rarely do we see her with hair anywhere above her shoulders. In fact, one of the shortest looks she has recently worn fell a few inches past her collarbone in an Ivy Park ad in February 2021. But for 2022, Queen Bey is switching it up with a chin-grazing bob and full set of bangs.

She debuted the new hair for yet another Ivy Park ad to promote its sixth collection, which launches on February 9. In one photo posted on the brand’s Instagram, she is seen in an all-red latex outfit with a matching cap. Her blunt bob falls right around her jawline. The hair is completely straight with the ends slightly bumped, framing her face. The fringe stops right above her eyebrows in a blunt cut. We’re not sure if Edna Mode was the inspiration here, but the hair is definitely reminding us of the Incredibles character. Of course, Beyoncé didn’t abandon her signature blonde hair color with this dimensional caramel look.

Short hair wasn’t the only new thing Beyoncé tried. Makeup artist Sir John gave the icon a graphic eyeliner look in a jet-black hue. In addition to her classic cat eye, he added another winged-out line just above her crease. He connected the two wings with a curved, convex line to complete the eye makeup.

Beyoncé with a blunt bob and bangs was definitely not on our 2022 beauty bingo card, but we’re loving every inch of it. The haircut is a welcome change from her usual long hair. We have a good feeling that this bob was probably a one-time look for the Ivy Park ad, but hopefully the Queen will bless us with another short cut one of these days.

Tabitha Brown Finds Freedom in Her Hair https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/tabitha-brown-finds-freedom-in-her-hair.html Thu, 03 Feb 2022 22:43:27 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/tabitha-brown-finds-freedom-in-her-hair.html [ad_1]

It’s no coincidence Tabitha Brown rose to fame during the worst of the pandemic. During a time where people were starved for joy, millions flocked to the actor and host’s TikTok for easy vegan recipes, but stayed for the pure warmth she radiates, even through a screen. She quickly fulfilled her goal of being “America’s Mom,” someone everyone could turn to for a little extra self-love and life advice, delivered in her soothing Southern lilt.

While Brown currently oozes self-love, she says that wasn’t always the case, especially when it comes to her hair. That’s why she’s partnered with Dove for the brand’s new As Early As Five campaign. The campaign is the latest chapter of the brand’s continuing support of The Crown Act, and aims to highlight the alarming rate at which young Black girls experience hair discrimination in school. Per a new study from Dove, 53% of Black mothers say their daughters have experience hair discrimination as early as five years old, and 86% of Black teens that have experience hair discrimination have endured it by 12 years old.

“When I first learned about this, I was in shock,” Brown tells Glamour. “I had no idea that it was okay in some states for this to happen. I think out about my own personal journey, and different instances where this has been my story more times than I can count. A lot of times when you’re going through those things, it becomes so normalized to you that you don’t think anything else of it. We’ve all been so programmed that this is just the way it is, that you don’t think anything else about it, right? Even though we know it’s wrong.”

In addition to a short film highlighting real cases of discrimination, Dove has tapped Brown to encourage her followers to raise awareness for The Crown Act, a cause she’s been supporting for years. “When I found out about the Crown Act, I was like, oh my God, you mean to tell me I can actually fight for this?” she says. “I can actually get an act passed so that these are not anyone else’s stories, or my children’s stories.”

We caught up with Brown to talk about her own personal hair journey, how she takes a moment for herself, and why her mom will always be her hero. Read on as she answers Glamour‘s Big Beauty Questions

Glamour: What was your relationship like with your hair growing up?

Tabitha Brown: Growing up, honey, I loved my hair! I wore a lot of braids and plaits, and I had a lot of hair. My mom would be like, “Girl, this hair’s like two big pom poms,” when I did poufs. But I went through all of the things, especially being from the South, that a lot of us went through. As a little girl wearing all the barrettes and the ponytails and things like that. And then went through the whole Jheri curl phase. Before getting to that, my great, great aunt who was like the town cosmetologist, she would press our hair and then on Sunday mornings, if I didn’t sweat it out, it would be okay. But if I sweat it out a little bit, my grandma would hit that hot comb on the stove before church and get them bangs back straight.

And then of course got into the “creamy crack,” as we call it—the perm—and started perming my own hair and wearing different styles. The Salt n’ Pepa era came with a high-low on one side, and all the fun. It was the freedom to wear my hair however. I do also remember a time where we would get a little frowned at by certain people, like teachers, for those different looks. But it didn’t matter because you’re so young, you don’t think about it until later in life. As a child, I was more free than before I allowed the world to condition me to believe that I wasn’t.

What’s your relationship with your hair like now? Do you still feel that freedom?

Hilary Duff Looks Stunning With Waist-Length, Barbie Blonde Hair https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/hilary-duff-looks-stunning-with-waist-length-barbie-blonde-hair.html Thu, 13 Jan 2022 21:49:49 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/hilary-duff-looks-stunning-with-waist-length-barbie-blonde-hair.html [ad_1]

Everybody dreams of having unlimited access to hyper-lengthy hair by way of professionally installed extensions…right? Maybe that’s just me. Regardless of your stance on long versus short hair, you’ve got to see Hilary Duff’s current hair situation for the upcoming How I Met Your Father series because it’s genuinely jaw-dropping.

The actor posted a slideshow of photos teasing the release of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off, and in them she’s sporting what is possibly the longest hair she’s ever worn. “Glam with the bestest – it has been so much fun doing press for HIMYF – my heart is full and it feels so good to be out there again in the world promoting something I am so proud of…with this giant mane,” Duff captioned the post.

She credits Los Angeles hairstylist Nikki Lee—Duff’s long-term stylist—for the “giant mane,” which flows all the way down to her waist and is voluminous enough to cover her front from shoulder to shoulder. Lee confirmed on her own Instagram account that the extensions are from Great Lengths (which I’ve actually had before; can confirm: They are luxurious).

Quite simply put, I am drooling. There is length. There is dimension. There is full-blown magnitude to this hair. I’m a dark brunette with a chin-length bob, so it’ll pretty much never happen, but I will dream of having Duff’s hair for months (okay, probably weeks until I find another celebrity hairstyle to fixate on).

If you want to see Duff’s glorious extensions in action, you can watch How I Met Your Father on Hulu come January 18. Seeing as I loathe almost all reboots and spin-offs, I honestly wasn’t planning on watching it—but after seeing this hair…I might be tempted after all.

Selena Gomez Kicks Off the New Year With Some Y2K Glam https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/selena-gomez-kicks-off-the-new-year-with-some-y2k-glam.html Wed, 05 Jan 2022 15:26:48 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/selena-gomez-kicks-off-the-new-year-with-some-y2k-glam.html [ad_1]

It may be 2022, but in the beauty world, cues pulled from 2002 continue to find favor. Should you have any doubts that Y2K-era trends are still worthy of note, we recommend making your way to Hung Vanngo’s Instagram: The makeup artist shared a snap of Selena Gomez this morning featuring a beauty look that exuded vibes of decades past

Framed by Gomez’s sleek brunette bob—inward-styled ends and subtle mahogany highlights aiding in the throwback effect—a graphic cat eye became a bit less expected when smudged to achieve a slightly blurred finish. Next, an overlined lip painted in a brickish brown came with a generous swipe of gloss, offering a perfect juxtaposition to Gomez’s matte complexion.

Precise power brows, washes of blush and bronzer, and a hefty dose of attitude proved that, when executed correctly, some details span time and place. Though it looks as if the next trendscape may find us revisiting scene-y Tumblr times, the early-aughts revival has truly transmuted modern beauty for the better.

Hailey Bieber’s Deep Green Eyeliner Is Party Season Goals https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/hailey-biebers-deep-green-eyeliner-is-party-season-goals.html Wed, 15 Dec 2021 17:10:44 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/hailey-biebers-deep-green-eyeliner-is-party-season-goals.html [ad_1]

Christmas parties may be being cancelled, but even Omicron can’t stop a stellar festive beauty look. Proving this point is Hailey Bieber, who recently enjoyed a short stay in London during which she showed off his-and-hers couple style with Justin and, more importantly, paid a visit to make-up artist Nikki Wolff.

Wolff, who is the woman to see for dreamy, soft glam make up, created a look that nodded to the festive season, without being too obvious. “Hailey wanted something fun and pretty, but comfortable – and she wanted to play around with color,” Wolff tells Vogue. “So I lined her eyes with a green pencil liner and then used an iridescent eyeshadow on her eyes – in the middle and inner corners – to create a multidimensional effect.” For a similar hue, look to Nars’s High-Pigment Longwear Eyeliner in Grafton Street.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

The result is a perfect example of why experimenting with color around your eyes isn’t something to shy away from. Whether it’s forest green or a deep indigo, shades like this effortlessly enhance eye color, and during party season, lend an effect that is simultaneously fun and understated.

“To keep it flattering, add a warm eyeshadow tone – something peachy or pinky – into the eye socket,” advises Wolff. “It keeps the look flattering by tying it all together.” For that fluttery fan of lashes, Wolff applied individual lashes (her own collection with Sweed Lashes is second to none), and lots of mascara to define the eyes, but still keep it looking natural. “And then for the lips, Hailey’s choice was a muted, browny nude,” she adds.

Festive beauty inspo? Sorted.

Here’s Exactly How to Re-create Adele’s Signature Eyeliner, According to Her Makeup Artist https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/heres-exactly-how-to-re-create-adeles-signature-eyeliner-according-to-her-makeup-artist.html Fri, 15 Oct 2021 18:50:43 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/heres-exactly-how-to-re-create-adeles-signature-eyeliner-according-to-her-makeup-artist.html [ad_1]

Few artists can be instantly recognized by their beauty look. There’s Bowie‘s lightning stripe, Amy Winehouse‘s jumbo liner, Ariana‘s ponytail, and Cher‘s waist-length raven black hair. But if we were to name a beauty look that’s quite as iconic as Adele, it would have to be her winged liner.

The retro ’60s liner and coquettish dolly lashes are a look that the star has made her trademark since her debut in 2007 with her album 19 and her smash hit, “Hometown Glory.” And, 14 years later, the flick may have got a little slicker and more elongated, but she remains just as committed.

After a five-year hiatus, Adele reemerged with a 20-second clip on Instagram, teasing a pretty piano riff and those famously winged almond eyes. There could be no doubt as to who both belonged to.

And to cement her return, the multi-Grammy winner took to the cover of Vogue, hailing her new album, 30, and some serious liner action. Adele was so taken by the work of her glam squad, she shouted them out in an Instagram post: “To glam, wardrobe, the crew, and everyone at British Vogue… In the words of Pat [McGrath, Adele’s makeup artist for the shoot] herself – ‘MAJJJJJOOORRR BAAAAABBBEZZZZ.’”

It’s undeniable. No one does liner quite like Adele. And, within one hour of the release of the trailer for her newest hit, “Easy on Me,” searches for “Adele makeup” explode by 9,900%, according to Just My Look. Evidently, we all want in on the action.

Luckily, we have all the details on the products and hacks makeup legend Pat McGrath used to create the liner the star wore on Vogue‘s cover.

Kim Petras Doesn’t Care If You Think She Looks Crazy https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kim-petras-doesnt-care-if-you-think-she-looks-crazy.html Thu, 14 Oct 2021 19:02:22 +0000 https://www.community-posts.com/lifestyle/kim-petras-doesnt-care-if-you-think-she-looks-crazy.html [ad_1]

Ongoing pandemic aside, Kim Petras is having quite the year. The 29-year-old singer has had a devout following since her 2017 debut thanks to her high-energy bops but has remained sort of a hidden gem for in-the-know pop fans and the LGBTQ+ community. But now, after two much-discussed red-carpet appearances, at this year’s VMAs and Met gala, the rest of the world is finally starting to catch on.

Her outfits aren’t the only thing that have people talking, either—Petras’s newest single, the dancy “Future Starts Now” and its accompanying video, is already a fan favorite after dropping in early October. “‘Future Starts Now’ was kind of the first song that was like, ‘This is the album. This is the direction I want to go into sonically,’” Petras tells Glamour. “The Airbnb that we’d moved into had this old painting of the Eiffel Tower, and I was watching this anime called Japan Sinks, which is about the end of the world and how to adjust to it, and that’s what lockdown kind of felt like. It felt like adjusting to a new life and getting past the anxiety and fear and just, you know, rolling with it and making the best of it. So I kind of put those two together.”

“The entire album, I was seeing the Eiffel Tower sink and me climbing up it,” she continues. “That was the most epic image and what I wrote the entire album in my head with, so we did that for the video. I really fought to make that happen, in a good way. I feel really, really proud of it. I think it’s a big step up as a performer and working with the camera and doing dance and choreography, which I’ve always wanted to do. This is the first video where I feel like I’m on top of my game, you know? I had the vision and fought for it, so I feel like this is my proudest moment.”

Hot off the new video, we caught up with Petras to chat her beauty essentials, her current favorite music, and the women who inspire her for Glamour‘s Big Beauty Questions

Glamour: What’s one beauty rule you swear by?

Kim Petras: Oh, I swear by, as with everything, high-low. I think there are incredible products that are inexpensive—in a drugstore, from an organic store, anything. I do my research, and I’ll find out whatever product is good. I don’t think just because something is expensive, it’s necessarily good or works for your skin. I think like that with everything. I have things from Goodwill that I love, and I have things from Prada that I love. Everyone’s unique. Your skin is unique, and you just got to find out what products work for you. I always think about Karl Lagerfeld saying that some of the worst styling he’s ever seen is from some of the richest people he’s ever met. So, high-low, trying out everything and sticking by what works for you.
